What a shame - it would have been nice in its day, but it has now been completely neglected with both pools dried up and all vegetation left completely overgrown. Certainly there should not be an entrance charge for this. Why not visit Jardim de Estrela for free - much nicer.

I've heard so much about this place that I decided to give it finally I go... but what a BIG disappointment! :-/ I can't really get why they still call it a 'garden'... Dry plants, dry bushes, dry trees, dry ponds, stagnant waters, and so on... There are public parks better cared for than this place! And to pay €2/person...

This is a small hotel tucked away beside Bairro Allto - just down thw3steps from the lovely Principe Real Square and is a great location for exploring Lisbon. The manager was that same as last time we were there and is very helpful. Parking available though you don't need a car in Lisbon.

Staying in Principe Real

Neighbourhood Profile
Principe Real
From the splendid garden and its cafe-kiosk to its restaurants, Príncipe Real is more than worthy of a visit and it won't let you down: its attractions include "Pavilhão Chinês" (one of the more eccentric interior designs you'll ever see), museums and a fantastic botanical garden. It's also a commercial neighborhood, and you can visit a renovated Palace, home of the Embaixada (embassy) trendy shopping center with its cafes, art galleries and luxury shops... and even if you don't buy anything, take a look inside just for its marvellous interiors. On top of this, Príncipe Real offers a variety of places to eat: if you're in a hurry, drop by "Pizza a Pezzi"; and if you're not, taste the delicious Honorato hamburgers, Argentinian cuisine at La Paparrucha and also great, delicious Portuguese food at Tascardoso!
