2023 Travellers' Choice Best of the Best
Reborn from the brink of becoming part of Lisbon's archeological heritage, this 15th century 'Palacio dos Castros' has a new lease of life and is now home to Lisbon's newest 5 star Boutique Hotel, Santiago de Alfama. Situated on Rua de Santiago, the road where globalisation was financed, Christopher Colombus married and the start of the Caminho de Santiago de Compostela. Hotel Santiago de Alfama is perfectly located for the curious traveller. Beautiful whimsical views of old Alfama glide towards the sea, whilst the swallows nest along the nearby rooftops. The bustle of 'Cafe Audrey', 'Manny's Bar' and 'Restaurante A Fabrica' will keep guests well fed and The Beauty Bar will delight. Special, local and independent, Hotel Santiago de Alfama is a beacon of authenticity in this lovely city of light, Lisboa.

what a wonderful oasis of a hotel. Calm, chic with warm friendly staff who all seems to have been there long term, which tells its own story! The breakfast in Audreys was outstanding. We were lucky enough to be staying in the top floor suite, with great views across Alfama. Bright, spacious and luxurious comfort. Would highly recommend this place to anyone coming to Lisbon and make sure you order a cocktail in the bar. The man is a magician!!

Regardless of how many stars, I doubt we’ll find a hotel with better staff, and, in the end, they are the critical factor. Lana was a superstar with her empathetic personality, very helpful info, consistent & genuine greetings, a person who makes you feel you’re the only guest. Assisted by Joanna and Ines, you will not be overlooked. Bruno & Denusha & the breakfast team really shined and are stunning jewels for this property, so sweet, extremely competent & knowledgeable. We will miss them! The hotel itself is not so much 5-star as it is unique & respected. Orthopaedically challenged may have some difficulties with slick, wet, uphill cobblestones and no stair or shower railings/grab bars. Food/drinks/towels/historical location/hospitality are super. Be clear if you don’t want a tub beside your bed! Bed was ok, not cozy. Loved the fresh bottles of water and the special amenity for our anniversary. Can recommend ~

Santiago de Alfama is a lovely boutique hotel. We thoroughly enjoyed our 3-night stay. The location is excellent, set in the heart of the fascinating Alfama neighborhood- the oldest in Lisbon. In fact, this turned out to be our favorite neighborhood, of all the many we spent time in. The hotel is built on the site of an ancient Roman building and retains an elegant sense of history. Our room was very clean and pleasant and connected to a pretty inner courtyard. The restaurants and bar in the hotel are wonderful. Breakfast, which is included, was delicious and a high point every morning. The dining room menu is also excellent. The bar is intimate and fully stocked.

Dear Doug R Our team is very thrilled to read this kind fee-back about your stay. It is very important to know that our guests have felt welcomed and very well looked after during their visit and we are very happy to hear that we were able to provide this feeling through your stay as well. Our location without a doubt makes this task easier and it is our privilege to make part of this neighbourhood, however it is with our staff at Audrey´s who take the food and beverage experience to level we can only be proud with and will certainly share your feed-back with our colleagues. Our best regards Lana Guest Relations Manager

Lovely king deluxe room was the highlight of the stay. Massive bed, large windows with plenty of sunlight and a nice view of the bay. Sunken bath was awesome. We only had breakfast, which was really good and the staff were very courteous and attentive. Location is excellent, in the middle of Alfama district and a stones throw from the castle. We didn't have lunch or dinner in the hotel, nor did we sit in the bar, although it was open for business throughout, despite not being many residents during our 3 night stay. One point of improvement would be to replace the bed mattress, which has seen better days. And I would give 5 stars if there was a sauna and jacuzzi! If you are looking for a high quality boutique hotel in a quiet area to relax after a day walking the hills of Lisbon, then this is perfect.

Dear Irishlux Thank you so much for having stayed with us and for taking your time to leave your review. We are thrilled to hear that you have enjoyed your stay with us, our food and the location. Your feedback is very important to us and we know that there is always a place for the improvement, therefore have taken a good note of your suggestion and will review the rooms that require the renewal of mattresses. In couple of years our hotel will grow bigger and there will be certainly a place for sauna and jacuzzi. We hope to welcome you back. With best regards Lana Guest Relations Manager

The staff went above and beyond during our stay and were always more than willing to assist. The food is excellent at the restaurant and the location of the hotel (inside the old fortified city walls) is perfect. It's an easy walk to all the sites and there are both bus and tram stops just steps away. Between the quiet and breezy nights and late afternoon fado in the background, you can't go wrong.

My wife and I spent a five night stay at Santiago de Alfama over the 2023/24 New Year period. The hotel arranged a private transfer for our arrival which was convenient and efficient. We arrived at lunchtime to find that our room was ready and we had been upgraded to a beautiful and spacious suite facing the river. Every aspect of our stay was excellent. From the front desk - Marta was especially helpful - to the restaurant ( Sonya in the restaurant and Bruno in the bar provided wonderful service) and the restaurant manager, everyone provided wonderful service. We do not eat breakfast but we had dinner in the restaurant and the quality of the food and wine is outstanding at a significantly lower price than we pay in the US. Despite facing the river with trams on the road near the hotel, the hotel is quiet and we slept well every night. Location wise it is near enough to be accessible to the castle, cathedral, Praca de Comercio, etc. but just far enough away to be out of the touristy areas. There are also a couple of hidden gem neighborhood restaurant and brunch spots close by. I would highly recommend the Santiago de Alfama for a luxurious stay in Lisbon at an affordable rate compared to other hotels in capital cities in Europe.

Very supportive staff for discussing the tour details for our Sintra visit. The room is amazing as well with nice historical area. Will recommend my friends for their next visit to stay here. Only difficulty is in the hill area, but there are shortcut with elevators which may be better to know before the departure to Lisbon city center area.
