Great experience! I just loved to stay in this eco-friendly hostel in Sintra. The place (building and surroundings) is beautiful, peaceful, with a very good energy and the staff is really nice. I simply fell in love with the cozy living room and its fireplace. It makes me feel like staying and staying, not forever but at least for a...

We liked the green/sustainable vibe of the place, and the common room and garden were very nice spaces to relax with fellow guests. Location near the regaleira was perfect. The room could have maybe used a paint job, but was comfortable and provided everything we needed. The breakfast included excellent fresh bread, but was otherwise pretty minimal. It's good for...

This hostel is in a wonderful park, you're really in the middle of Nature! You feel at home. The place is so cozy and warm, the staff has a wonderful soul. I'm really glad for the people that I met there. And the breakfast is delicious! Isn't in the centre of the city, but there are a lot of wonderful...

Obrigada, gracias, tusen takk ~ Thank you ! If you wonder why this place has this name Almaa ( both meaning water in Arabic and soul in Spanish) you simply should go to nurture your soul. And shower it with gentleness. This is people who " walk" their talk. I never felt more at home abroad than in this great...

I chose this hostel so as to base my time in Sintra somewhere special- somewhere comfortable and peaceful, with quiet for quality and uninterrupted sleep, with a deeply good energy to it, and steeped in nature without being too far from the city center to easily walk. Almaa Sintra delivered all of this, as well as free breakfast with strong...

Most people live in Lisbon and do a day trip to Sintra. I did the other way round. Lisbon is a great city but it's crowded, I had just visited Porto (another touristy place) and was seeking some quiet time. I could not have made a better choice of the hostel. I was supposed to stay 2 nights, but ended...

There are some pros and cons: We stayed there 6 nights and this was way too long. (We asked the first day if we could cancel the last 2 or 3 nights but they didn't agree). Although it's very cosy, clean and very nicely decorated, it's not so comfortable. The room is rather dark with little light. The bed linnen...

Set in an old mansion, Almaa hostel is a peaceful and relaxing place which was perfect for Sintra. Sintra doesn't have much of a night life, but is an incredibly beautiful and peaceful place to walk around. The staff at Almaa are friendly and the building has large gardens you can stroll around. There is incense burning around the house...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Almáa Sintra Hostel is a retreat center and an Eco Hostel located in the heart of the Sintra Mountain Range which cultural landscape is classified by Unesco as a World Heritage Site. Our house is sited in a property considered the oldest in Sintra, dated back to the 12st century, with 3,5 ha of luxurious gardens. We offer private and shared rooms in a heavenly environment. The Hostel was named Almáa, which means "The Water" in Arabic, due to the influence of the moors in this region and the fantastic natural spring water that supplies the house, and waters the gardens. "Alma" also means soul in some Latin languages. Our beliefs in sustainability and in helping one another, made us manufacture our furniture with recycled materials done by local artists with the help of third sector entities (charities, voluntary organizations and social enterprises) that are also our main suppliers. ... more   less
