We arrived late evening and very tired but received a very warm welcome and equally welcome glass of wine. The gentleman on reception even brought our cases to our room, which was very large and comfortable with a balcony overlooking the pool and the sea. Everything was spotlessly clean. We stayed 10 nights and bedding and towels were constantly changed by a very smiley and hard working member of housekeeping. All staff were friendly and helpful. We only had bed and breakfast but what a treat eating outside overlooking the sea. Food choice at breakfast was excellent and constantly being replenished. Waiters friendly and efficient. Pool area was lovely with nice views and surrounded by palm trees. Saving of sun beds not allowed so all very relaxed. Very clean and tidy. Music some evenings but nothing to disturb other guests. For a largish hotel it still had a very personal feeling. Delilia the customer relations manager was extremely helpful, answering queries and booking restaurants. There were plenty of restaurants within walking distance of tge hotel. Noticed guests with mobility scooters and walking sticks so good to know all people are catered for. Bus stop just outside hotel so apart from walking into Funchal there is good transport available. We loved our stay here.

The hotel is located about 300m from lots of restaurants and bars ,there is a bus stop outside which goes into Funchal ,about 1 euro 90 . Reception is on the left as you walk into the hotel, friendly staff explain all about the hotel.Our room was located at garden and pool level.The rooms are spacious and well presented,the bathroom is also large with bath/shower . Breakfast is served on this level and is of a high standard, definitely recommend the omelettes made to order .The indoor pool is kept very clean and opens at 8am , there is also large outdoor pool with no lifeguards,pool towels are in your room on arrival. Now for the only very minor problems,the pool towels were taken on 3 occasion's and not replaced, easily sorted when you inform reception,tea and coffee wasn't replaced either,there is building work going on on the road above about 50m away as their building a new apartment block we only heard noise on 2 occasions for a few hrs . We will definitely be staying again

The Pestana Promenade Hotel is in an ideal location to explore the Island of Madeira, and has the most amazing views, providing a perfect relaxing getaway. From start to finish of our holiday the staff were always friendly, helpful and provided a warm welcome. Just back from a week's stay at Pestana Promenade Funchal. Nice reception area with beautiful view out to pool and sea. Rooms are definitely needing upgraded we were in a superior sea view but the furniture was very tired. Bathroom old tatty shower curtain needing replaced. Our room wasn't very clean there were crumbs left on the worktop area and in the fridge. Bathroom behind the tap was not cleaned and wasn't the whole time we were there. Maid was in every day but felt the room wasn't cleaned properly floor not swept no fresh smell of the maid being in! Our view from the room was lovely but our balcony was very small which was a shame. The pool area was lovely and kept clean the gardens were beautiful lovely to sit in at the pool but the sunbeds were very uncomfortable and worn they are all needing replaced not sure how people could lie on them all day! There was an indoor pool/spa which was well used by lots of people. The pool bar was ok but thought it to be quite expensive and had a service charge on your bill! It was card only in pool bar and Bar Brezees which we weren't told about on arrival! We stayed on a B&B basis breakfast was ok quite a lot of choice but the hot food was never hot think they need better equipment to keep it at correct temperature. For us I felt the hotel didn't flow properly so when you went down to breakfast you walked through alot of wasted space seating area which is where there was a stage then the bar then the dinning room very odd set up. Bar Breezes had absolutely no atmosphere in it at all we went to happy hour one night as it was raining outside there was a band on which were terrible but playing to no audience it just does not work. Entertainment is rubbish we popped into Porto Mare which was a couple of hotels away and as soon as you walked in the atmosphere was completely different. The entertainment that was on in there was fab and everyone up dancing! If we were to return to Funchal in the future I wouldn't stay here again too many negatives for us I think there are much better hotels in the same area to go to.

Our stay at Pestana Promenade was not as positive as we would have liked. Whilst we agree in the main that the staff worked very hard, we felt there was a great deal lacking about our stay.
We did raise all issues locally , however, we felt we should share our thoughts about the room and pool area.
The quality of the mattress is very poor, its either old or cheap I’m not sure which, it was like sleeping on a jelly with your head on a rock. Housekeeping tried to help by using a mattress topper, however this didn’t alleviate any issues for us. Pillows were replaced for slightly less rock type. I understand new mattresses are being rolled out soon.
The room was lacking , mini bar had a single small bottle of complementary water that required a bottle opener, there wasn’t one.
The bathroom clearly in need of updating , the housekeeper left just one flannel for 2 people. Towels were poor quality and shower isn’t great. 2 mornings of no water wasn’t helpful for toilet flushing .
The location of our room wasn’t very desirable as it was just 3 rooms from the end of the oceanside part of the hotel. With local children screaming all night in the crèche and floodlit tennis courts, I realise nothing can be done. It made sitting outside in the evening not relaxing The balcony furniture resembled a dining chair, on closer inspection it was plastic and I have honestly never seen such odd outdoor furniture, again not comfortable at all ( not that we could sit out for long as mentioned).
The pool loungers are very old, hard plastic with mesh, no comfy mattress here. They are a bad design and when it’s hot naturally the plastic moulding is very hot to touch! The pool area is rather dangerous , there appears to be no anti slip design as I watched a number of people slip and fall. The pool wasn’t clean, after 4 days I did complain that the interior of the pool and the pool furniture was very grubby. This prompted daily hosing down, although pool still remained unclean for the duration.
Most people we met here had stayed multiple times, and had timeshare type of accommodation.
The evening buffet initially seemed a small offering, but actually it had many choices, once we looked closer, our favourite was fisherman’s night!
The staff here are all mainly hard working I realise the shortcomings in hospitality, leave staff to work longer shifts than perhaps they normally would. The staff were all helpful and nice.
It isn’t a hotel that we would return to. Although we would return to the island, the climate is wonderful.

On a positive note, the pool/garden area is lovely and well maintained. The views out to sea are spectacular.
The night bar staff were friendly, professional and attentive.
The day staff work very hard, but needed to work smarter, especially with the breakfast service at peak times to ensure sufficient tables are set for incoming guests. On a couple of occasions we had to set our own tables up as staff were too busy clearing up from those who already had dined. This was raised with a manager and to be fair the situation improved.
The location of the hotel may be an issue for some as it is a good 30 minute walk into the centre of Funchal. That said there are plenty of bars and restaurants within the vicinity for this not to be an issue.
Now for the niggles…the air conditioning isn’t fit for purpose and is very noisy. It is clearly an old system, which probably needs upgrading. The filters were changed when we were there, but this had no effect on the performance.
Our travelling companions complained however despite sending an engineer, the hotel accepted there was nothing they could do to resolve the problem so moved them to another room, which had slightly better A/C.
Our room was a little tired and in need of decoration due to marks on the walls and ceiling. The plaster on some walls had blown due to water ingress.,
The room furniture was scuffed, water damaged and requires updating. The fabric on the bed divan was ripped.
At times sound proofing was an issue. Heavy footed residents above us caused some irritation.
Replenishment of tea/coffee was very hit and miss. Also we had no shower gel for the whole 10 days. Bottles for shower gel and shampoo in the bathroom, but the shower gel remained empty.
I would recommend that housekeeping staff have a checklist when servicing rooms so these minor issues do not collectively impact negatively on the customer experience.
Wi-Fi was intermittent depending on whereabouts in the hotel you were.
One day we had no power in our room. I reported the issue to reception, but had to report for a second time as the engineer had not attended.
We then had no kettle (presumably this is what had caused the power issue). It was taken but not replaced. Again I reported the lack of kettle in the morning, but had to again report 8 hours later as no replacement was received.
The lift broke down. Some signage or staff present would have been of benefit as people congregated by the lift and were confused as to what was happening.
We understand things happen, but collectively the niggles added up during the course of our stay to extent where I formed the opinion we would not return to or recommend this hotel.

Pretty rooms, rather spacious, clean and with comfortable beds. The Pestana Promenade is well located along the Lido promenade, west of Funchal. Booked package deal with easyJet ,we have stayed here 6 times before amazing hotel and location .What I didn’t know was they have put rooms on ground floor in front of the path on the promenade called classic rooms ,the rooms are lovley great shower but no privacy people walk past all the time also when you close the metal shutters the room is pitch black you feel very enclosed . We asked to change rooms which they offered us a pool view room higher up which again was lovley (we have stayed in these before) it was 222 euro to change for 6 nights ,but worth every penny . I will be very careful on checking room when booking again . The hotel is amazing lovley gardens great pools breakfast was perfect .Staff are all very polite and helpful .looking forward to next trip there

I stayed here for 3 nights with my mum. We had a side sea view room and we were really pleasantly surprised that the balcony was huge and we had a good view too. The room had great facilities too including a mini kitchen area with microwave, kettle, fridge etc.
The outdoor pool is amazing, it was never too crowded.
You can leave the hotel by the outdoor pool and you're then on the promenade. There are nice places to swim in the sea within a 5min walk. There are also lots of restaurants nearby and a Spar shop.
There is a bus that stops outside the hotel and is €2 into Funchal- it only takes 10minutes.
We loved our stay and would definitely stay again. We wouldn't bother looking anywhere else.

I would consider this hotel a 3 star at best in its current condition.
Staffing was short, things you'd normally expect at a 4 star hotel, such as cleaning around the pool, drinks collection, and just general ongoing maintenance of the facilities, was absent.
The pool area is very very tired, the pool itself is lined with plastic sheeting instead of proper tiling, which is going mouldy, and the floor scattered with debris. Basic cleaning and upkeep is not visible.
The rooms whilst functional are tired too, maybe the decor and fixtures were considered fresh and attractive in the 90's, but it all needs an overhaul to be considered anywhere near 4*.
Expensive 3 star.

Hello! You can pay by card after each meal. Or you can choose, when checking in, to open an account for your room (guaranteed by your credit card) so after each round of drinks, you can just sign them to your room, and you pay it all when checking out.

I was there a month ago and experienced no problem with noise. Last year when they were removing rock it was a minor issue but even then only if you had a room on the west end. Public areas are all fine now, don’t worry. Just enjoy the magic of Madeira.

I’ve been at ghe Promenade for two weeks and have had no noise if dust issues. Construction has passed that stage now, 2 years ago it was bad when they were cutting into the rock but that’s well over, don’t worry, you’ll have a great time.
Our superior room with sea view did not have a kettle (we had our own), but the mini suite they upgraded us to on our second visit had full tea and coffee facilites. I believe you can pay to add tea/coffee/kettle for the rooms that do not have it included.
There are more places to choose from in the Funchal area.
