We wound up loving our stay here. We were a little upset to start as for our first 2.5 days there was loud construction to the main hotel building immediately by the infinity pool, which meant virtually non-stop jackhammering all day and wrecked the atmosphere. But that then stopped and everything was great from there on.
We chose a lateral suite instead of a duplex and are really glad we did, because the balcony was much larger. The decor of our room also seemed a bit more modern than the pictures on the website. Same general idea (sort of mid-century luxury) but all the furniture seemed new and very sleek. In any case, the rooms were gorgeous. The facilities were also excellent - a huge drench shower, loads of storage, wet bar, etc. They brought really high quality fresh fruit to the room every day. The bed was the largest we’ve seen in a hotel anywhere and was super comfortable. Everything you need for a luxury stay.
All the staff were great. They learned where we liked to sit at breakfast, and what we liked to drink by the pool and had the fridge stocked with those things, etc. Just very attentive and polished service. Always cheerful and helpful too.
We used the main hotel facilities too several times but the Les Suites ones were head and shoulders above for us. The pools in the main hotel were always very busy - we could never get a sun lounger, for example. But we would go down to swim in the sea, then return to Les Suites, where we always had our pick of loungers. It’s quite a walk though - probably 10 minutes down, but it’s all inside so easy enough.
We would definitely stay again (as long as no construction!) on our next Madeira trip.

What a fantastic stay at Les Suites. We stayed in the Master Suite over the Christmas period and no detail was left out. The rooms were spotless, the kitchenette well equipped, and the bathrooms were fabulous. Daily housekeeping and turn down service was perfect every time. Toiletries were well stocked and replenished if needed. Fresh fruit was also replenished in the living room every day. Nothing was too much trouble and even when I sent some laundry out over the weekend, it was delivered two minutes after I called reception to check its return time!
We mostly ate at Avista (both Avista and Avista Asia) and the staff were so welcoming, personable and efficient. The breakfast was delicious every day, and there was a huge selection to choose from. Avista Asia was absolutely superb.
The pools and spa are well maintained both at Les Suites and in the main hotel and it was wonderful to have a swim every day. The jacuzzis and other wellness facilities were also brilliant. I also had a massage at the beginning of my stay which was fabulous.
Il Gallo D'Oro was perfect. The staff were so well trained, the food was delicious and the whole experience was an artistic production and very special.

Among all the "giant hotels" in this unique location on the cliffs high above the sea, Les Suites is a very quiet, small, relaxing hotel. The rooms all face the sea - we had a garden suite - and offer a fantastic view! When you step out of the hotel, you are in the middle of the hustle and bustle - good restaurants nearby, and about a 20-minute walk to the old town of Funchal. Perfect. Back in the room: peace and quiet! A little oasis! This is also due to the very well thought-out architecture: the public areas - restaurant, bar, pool - are upstairs, the suites below. This means that the noise does not reach the rooms and it is incredibly quiet.

We (2 adults) spent 8 nights in the master suite. Very positive: The master suite. Wonderful large balcony, very nicely decorated, has 2 full bathrooms and sleeping areas. Cleanliness top, cleaning flawless. Breakfast & dinner & service at Arista are very good!!!
Why no 5 star rating: - Pool service: Sometimes he's there, sometimes you have to call and wait for someone to show up at all, sometimes nobody comes. - Reception desk: Quite wonderful and friendly staff, but a staff member who doesn't even lift her head and greet us (someone like that makes the work of the other staff null and void and leaves a bad impression). - Parking: The master suite and the smaller suite are located in the small main house where the reception is also located. These are the best (and most expensive) rooms in the house. In front of it there are 6 parking spaces that can be occupied by any guest, although there is a larger parking space of Cliff Bay next door for everyone. Why not guarantee one space per suite here, especially since the two rooms are in the house.

Accommodation: We booked the duplex suite, and it was exactly as per the photos. The room was immaculate with everything you could need, including a well-stocked bar, coffee and tea facilities, and a mini library of books. The in-room lift that takes the bags from the lower level to the higher bedroom was a pleasant novelty for our son. The balconies are lovely sizes, and the views are stunning. Food: The food was fresh and beautifully cooked. The staff were welcoming. Location: a little way from the main bustle of the town but still within walking distance. We walked there most days and got an inexpensive taxi back up the hill. Spa: There is no spa in Les Suites. They advertise one, but it is actually next door in the sister hotel. I soon learned that guests need to book spa treatments before they arrive to avoid disappointment. We were out of season as well, so if you are booking peak periods, expect disappointment. I did manage to get an appointment, but only because there was a last-minute cancellation. It’s a shame they do not tell new guests.

Les Suites is one of the best hotels we've ever stayed at, it is truly a 5 star experience. From our first welcome from Carla to the staff every morning at breakfast to incredible drinks at the pool, everything was amazing. The amenities are incredible, the restaurants are fantastic and it truly feels like a home away from home. They are also very helpful with getting tours or activities set up with top notch vendors during our stay in Madeira. We will be back!

We have just returned from our second visit to this fabulous hotel and we were just as impressed with all aspects as we were on our first visit, Check in was friendly and effortless and we were greeted with “welcome back” by the lovely young lady on reception. On this occasion we were upgraded to the Garden Suite - a two roomed suite with its own private garden.
The porter was on hand to deal with our luggage and proved us with a welcome drink, a choice of soft drink, Madeira Wine or sparkling wine.
The accommodation was as comfortable as we had expected and compared favourably with our last visit - Comfortable sitting room with chocolates,fruit, water and champagne on ice. The king sized double beds in the separate bedroom were the epitome of comfort and the enormous bathroom was equipped with bath, shower ( including rainwater shower) toilet,bidet and double sinks. There were plentiful supplies of BVLGARI toiletries which were regularly replenished throughout our stay.
We ate breakfast and almost all dinners in the Avista restaurant where the menu was extensive. Special mention must be made to the staff in the Avista - waitresses Vanessa and Katya as well as supervisors Fatima, Katya, Kyril and one other who’s name escapes me but he will know who I mean when I wish him well for his forthcoming wedding!
One evening we opted to dine in the Cliff Bay Rose Garden restaurant where the food and service were up to our expectations.
As on our last visit , Carla, on reception was most helpful regarding our departure and took time to assist us with our requests despite the fact that she was helping with the training of Ana, a hospitality student.
We thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of our relaxing vacation and look forward to our next visit, already arranged for October

I cannot recommend this hotel enough. We were treat like royalty from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. The porters took our bags to the room while we checked in and enjoyed a complimentary welcome drink in the garden, then the room was stunning with knock out views, the pools were all fantastic as well as access to the sea with lifeguards to watch over us unobtrusively. The breakfast offerings were amazing, all staff couldn't do enough for us. This hotel deserves its 5 stars.

We’ve stayed in the duplex twice and I think they are the same. Coffee machine, sink, fridge (water and soft drinks are free). You can ask for a microwave, we never did.
We chatted a lot to a family who were staying in that room, they loved it.

The duplex overlooks the pool, ok if it's quiet. We had No 44 which came with its own terrace garden, perhaps not quite as much as a view as the floor above but excellent nonetheless. Easily the best room we have stayed in anywhere. Great staff, wonderful fish restaurants everywhere. Enjoy
