The location of the hotel is central, you can get from there quickly (+/- 45min) to any corner of the island. In the reception we were welcomed friendly, could communicate smoothly with English or French and we were told the complex without further ado. The two lifts, on the other hand, do not give you a sense of security, they stop jerking and with noise on the respective floor. The entire hotel is laid with carpet which also looked pretty clean. The air-conditioned room can be entered with a magnetic card. Replacing the wipes and cleaning the rooms by the cleaning force worked smoothly. Our bathroom was equipped with a bathtub with glass pane, which in my opinion does not meet the 2020 standard, I would have preferred a pure shower. Small fine fitted kitchen with microwave and fridge (which, however, just dripped from the freezer) and a safe. The room is also equipped with USB sockets, only stupid if you only have USBC cable:). Except for some beauty defects, the bathroom and room were fine and clean. The swimming pools were clean and partly heated. The hot tubs were pleasant. The pool bars were also good, snacks and cocktails could be booked on site or via the room number. The happy hour cocktails from 17-18h at half price (5€/cocktail) were delicious, only sometimes it seemed to me that they forgot the alcohol. Fitness equipment in the gym quite out of fashion, but serve their purpose when it really matters. Spa (massage) was also very good. Breakfast: We were always around 8h at the breakfast table. From bread rolls, cold cuts to EnglishBreakfast (very tasty), everything was there. Pancakes, cheese, mini pastries, pastel de nata of course, nuts and various grain flakes. Fresh fruits such as bananas, melon, grapes, oranges, fruit salad, pineapple and kiwi were also available at the buffet. Absolutely disappointing, however, was the canned fruit (pears, apricot). The coffee from the pot wasn't the real thing either, tasted like instant coffee.
The dinner buffet was good but quite expensive. In the other in-house restaurant (Horta) the food was excellent, but even there the price was quite high.
On-site parking is free of charge. If you can't find a parking space, you can ask in the reception for a parking magnet card, which is valid 24h but is activated immediately (not as thought only upon entering the hotel's own parking garage), costs 10€.

The Eden Mar is "attached" to the Porto Mare. It appears to be a low-cost alternative as the rooms have a small fridge, microwave and sink if you want to self-cater. The first room we were given was awful. Poky, old and smelly. Fortunately we were able to get a newly-renovated room which was certainly better. The whole place seems to be under a room-by-room renovation so it could be a while for all rooms to reach an acceptable standard. There is another Porto Bay Property nearby The Cliff Bay which I would like to try next time we visit. The good news with Eden Mar is that you still have access to all the benefits of Porto Mare - the spectacular gardens, swimming pools. and breakfast restaurant. I believe that this is an adults only hotel, although a few very small children/babies were spotted. The grounds and location are the main reason to stay here. The hotel is dated with seemingly miles of dark corridors but the location is wonderful where you can take lovely walks along the sea. The restaurant il Basilico is close-by and is very pleasant. You do need to reserve. Good food. Servers can be a little unfriendly and over-formal. There are tons of restaurants within walking distance and good bus service to Funchal.

Just returned from another relaxing holiday at the Vila Porto Mare Resort, this time staying at the Eden Mar. Rooms were spacious & it was useful having a kitchenette area with a full size fridge. I also liked there was a UK 3pin plug in the bathroom - this looked newly installed. Resort & grounds were spotless & gardens (including an orchid garden)well maintained with some beautiful plants. All the staff were friendly & helpful especially when they knew I was a solo traveller. I booked B&B & purchased evening meal vouchers on arrival. These are either 3 or 5, & can be used on any evening & work out cheaper. The 5 nights voucher allowed me 1 meal in the Alfama a la carte restaurant. The only reason I did not give 5he hotel 5 stars is I found the buffet repetitive at times. I look forward to returning.

Magnificent hotel with a beautiful garden and magnificent infrastructure:
Room: Located on the 6th floor with magnificent views of the sea, swimming pool and palm trees. Spacious, bright room, with small corner with sofa and coffee table, table with 2 chairs, very good beds, flat screen television with channels from several countries, I was able to plug in my USB key to watch my films. Kitchenette area with fridge, microwave, 2 electric hotplates, sink, medium-sized fridge, kettle, On the terrace: 2 comfortable chairs and 1 table.
Bathroom: with bathtub, bathrobes, slippers, shaving kits, toothbrush, Rituals toiletries which smell very good, soap. Sufficient towels + towel for the pool and beach. Very hot water. Good hair dryer.
Breakfast room: Floor at swimming pool level, with the possibility of going to the terrace, large varieties of products, pastries, hot dishes and pancakes prepared on site, fruit salad and wide variety of fruit, good coffee, Very bright and relaxing room in the restaurant.
Free outdoor parking in front of the hotel, the barrier opens with our magnetic card from our room. Never had a problem with space.

The resort is split into 3 - Eden Suites, Porto Mare hotel and then a residence building all surrounding large external pools, seating loungers and grass areas. All over looking the sea with close access to water front and some bars.
Staying in the suites, the rooms are spacious (Junior Suite) and clean with a fridge and some cooking facilities should you wish to use them. They benefit from good wifi and air con. Bathroom has a bath with stand up shower over bath, good pressure and lovely warm water, big mirror and nice space.
Outside there is ample seating with decent loungers and shade, big central pool which is not heated, grass areas overlooking the sea, a spa facility with indoor pool, Jacuzzi and internal spa pool plus a basic gym etc. Note the morning brigade still reserve chairs around the pool which is against policy and not enforced.
Food, the breakfast is available in 2 locations and offer the same items although the breakfast variety is basic e.g. eggs, fruit or continental items.
We were B&B we did have lunch at the poolside bar which was very tasty but pricey (prawn salad circa €18). Food other guests ate looked very well presented and all plates were emptied (obviously good).
All drinks in the hotel are expensive compared to offsite which you would expect but a class of Cola €4.50, coffee €4 seemed a little excessive. Note there is a half price happy hour on some selected items 5-6pm.
Overall the resort is large, modern, clean with friendly staff and benefits with a good location for restaurants nearby.
Would stay again it was nice!

We stayed here last year for a week and were so impressed that we returned for two weeks this year. The staff are lovely, so helpful - a special mention for Mary on reception. The hotel is spotlessly clean. We ate in the Atlântida restaurant - the buffet choices for breakfast and dinner are amazing. They also have 'a la carte' restaurants on site - our family tried Alfama and Horta and said they were both really good. The Portofino bar do a 'Happy Hour' where my husband enjoyed trying one of the three different cocktails on offer each day. I don't drink and would have liked to have seen 'fresh' orange juice included in the happy hour as it is included in the normal menu but that's only a very minor point. Plenty of swimming pools on the complex, both outdoor and indoor to cater for whatever the weather decides to do!. The hotel complex is very well situated for going to Funchal as the bus stop is literally outside the Porto Mar reception entrance; if you'd rather walk, it's only approx 40 mins stroll into the centre. Steep hill to climb to get back though but again the bus stops only a minute away from the hotel entrance. Eden Mar is really well situated for the large Pingo Doce supermarket which is literally round the corner at the end of the Eden Mar shopping centre. The hotel complex is in lovely grounds, really well maintained with amazing views and not overlooked by people walking by on the lido. The hotel rooms are a good size; in Eden Mar they are all suites which contain a small kitchenette area which is a nice touch - especially the full size fridge! Some of the bedrooms and the aircon seem a little 'tired', however they are spotlessly clean and the rest of the hotel and staff certainly make up for this slight concern; we will definitely be returning again. Great Hotel

A well located, very clean hotel. The rooms were very quiet (no noises heard from the neighboring rooms). Friendly staff. Nice balcony. Small kitchenette really handy for your own drinks and snacks.

Beautiful, spacious tropical gardens, great pool area. Shared facilities of the partner hotel Porto Bay right next door. Sun loungers available at the pools and adjacent lawns at all times, lovely quiet areas. Very good location to the sea/promenade/restaurants. Bus connection to Funchal in the immediate vicinity. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast buffet good and always sufficient. We had a studio on the 3rd floor of the Hotel Eden Mar, a good size, but carpeted. Traditional furnishings, dining table right next to the kitchen area (2-burner stove, microwave, large fridge), small coffee table, 2 armchairs, large built-in wardrobe, comfortable beds. Bathroom big enough, bathtub, with rain shower. A small complaint was dealt with immediately. Balcony furnished, very nice view. Air conditioning works well, could be a bit quieter. Room quiet, noise from the neighboring room only minimally audible in the bathroom. Elevators available at any time. Only drawback: corridors not air-conditioned, so often very warm. (August/September) All in all, an absolutely great hotel with a pleasant atmosphere to feel good for a relaxing holiday! :-)

The hotel's outdoor facilities are very beautiful and well maintained. Unfortunately, the outdoor pools are not heated, but you can use the indoor pools, which are very nicely tempered. Unfortunately, we were given a room facing the street, which was very noisy and we moved out after disposing of old glass at midnight. The room we were given facing the inside of the complex was very good and left nothing to be desired. Our friends had a room facing the inside and were delighted.

We stayed for 12 days in Suite Eden Mar as a five with the family. It was very nice, we stayed for the sixth time in Madeira but for the first time in this hotel. We had two suites each with a small kitchenette with a beautiful view of the sea and garden. The hotel is very conveniently located in Funchal, very close to the sea. We had booked with breakfast and were always eating in the evening at their numerous restaurants in the immediate vicinity of the hotel. Nor have we regretted this decision. The hotel is actually made up of three hotels, but the facilities can be used without restriction. There are two large outdoor pools, a children's pool and two very large 30 degree indoor pools, in addition there are two whirlpools (36 degrees warm). We really liked that you can use the pools until 8 pm (or longer). The garden is beautiful, there is seating everywhere and plenty of loungers. We had a rental car that we could park either in the hotel parking lot (limited capacity) or for 4 euros (24 hours) in the parking lot at the supermarket just below the hotel. Overall it was a wonderful holiday and we would choose the place again anytime.

The "double bed" in the bedroom is 2 singles pushed together, they have separate mattresses so these can be separated into 2 beds, there is a bed put in the living room, make sure whoever sleeps in this bed gets a mattress topper straight away as it's rock hard. Hope this helps
