We stayed for twelve nights, returning home on Boxing Day, this was our first visit and we chose B&B option, booked through Jet2. A lovely welcoming hotel; staff friendly but not intrusive. Covid safety measures very reassuring and diligently followed. They still managed to offer a really good range for breakfast buffet, hot and cold items. The Christmas Eve gala dinner was absolutely superb: excellent gourmet dishes served with professionalism and warmth. Compliments to chef and all staff involved. We had a sea view studio (104) which had great views and a good sized balcony. Maid service was very efficient. The location of the hotel is perfect for exploring the old town and for visiting the local restaurants, most of which were still open. Also it’s on the flat, so convenient for anyone with walking difficulties. We had a very welcome break and would definitely return to this hotel.…
Our first visit to Madeira that did not disappoint. Hotel is an excellent location with easy walk to most locations . Certainly best location for seafood restaurants with dozens of small family run places within a few yards with excellent food. Hotel staff are very friendly and breakfast has a large choice for all tastes. Lovely sea and harbour views from our balcony , the weather was fantastic for February with 24 to 28c most of the 10 days of our stay. We only ate once at the hotel which was for dinner but with so much choice on the door step we liked to try somewhere different for almost every meal. The only minor gripe is both indoor and outdoor pools are only 1.1 meters deep which is a bit shallow for serious swimmers. Tip take the cable car to the monte palace gardens then take a toboggan ride down it’s a great day out.…
Excellent in all aspects. We totally enjoyed our 6th repeat visit and though procedures had changed we were very impressed with the new measures which did not in any way detract from a truly enjoyable stay. Congratulations to all at Porto Santa Maria.
We enjoyed our stay, the location is key to us, in the heart of old town with great views and a lovely balcony to enjoy the view. Breakfast was well organised, socially distanced with strict hand sanitizing prior to visiting buffet. Lovely to sit outside every morning. Work on the area outside the hotel was intrusive at times but not unduly so and didnt spoil our enjoyment. At this difficult time the staff are efficient and pleasant but somehow have lost their spark if enjoyment but this is understandable. Enjoyable, we will return.
Our third visit to this hotel. Perfectly situated on the seafront of Funchal in the Old town area,. Easily distance to town centre and handy for bus station and cable cars. Spotlessly clean with high covid measures in place .Friendly staff. Was very sorry that our stay was shortened and had to fly home earlier than planned due to the lockdown in UK. Will be back at this hotel.
