Enotel Lido is often praised for its prime location, offering stunning sea views and proximity to Funchal, though the tranquility of guests' stays can be disrupted by noise. The hotel's cleanliness and range of amenities receive high marks, including the all-inclusive options and varied dining experiences.
While the rooms are generally appreciated for their space and cleanliness, some guests find them noisy and outdated. The staff is commended for their professionalism, but opinions on value and atmosphere are mixed, with some travelers questioning the hotel's 5-star rating.

We stayed for Christmas and New Year for a 2nd time and have had a lovely relaxing time. The room is cleaned to a very good standard and very comfortable and when they obliged and put zero sugar drinks in fridge (as I’m diabetic), it has made a big difference. Lots of plug sockets in the room and plenty of storage for your clothes. The food was always good quality and varied. It’s fair to say tho, like many of the other reviews, they really need to work on keeping the holding temperature of the food better. Providing a microwave is simply not good enough for a 5 star hotel. Lots of good quality and labelled drinks and jolly bar staff to boot. Infact, did not meet a grumpy staff member. All have been a pleasure. Thank you Enotel for a happy festive period.

Meals and drinks high quality, problem with shower fixed promptly, rooms cleaned to good standard , ask for a pool facing room because we got an outside room with side sea view that was pretty noisy from carpark noise/over delivery bay . During day the Italian restaurant near pool doubles as the coffee shop so constant supply of snacks drinks easy to find. Mainly older guests , we are 59 and 64 so don’t expect lots of loud music or modern entertainment . Free water stations around hotel to refill bottles, indoor pool lovely especially spa pools inside (book free at desk) with amazing whirlpools so relaxing. Staff were cheerful in hotel and good service at bars with decent cocktails , tried delicious Madeira wine and poncha but too strong! Main restaurant has huge buffet that will appeal to most people, a gluten free area & traditional Madeiran desserts. Hand gel available throughout hotel, public toilets kept clean. Hotel in good location for relaxing walk in evening along the front, bus stop a few minutes walk number 1 or 2 yellow bus €1.95 to Funchal, taxi cost €12 from Funchal to hotel.

The hotel is very well located. On the promenade, quite close to the center of Funchal. A good starting point for exploring the island by car. Bus stop about 2 minutes from the hotel. The hotel itself was very decent. Adapted to the all-inclusive formula. The lobby bar and the bar on level 5 offer the opportunity to spend a nice time in the evening listening to live music. The best coffee is in these bars. In the restaurant, the coffee for breakfast is rather so-so. The bar by the outdoor pool offers snacks and drinks all day long. The main restaurant, Atlantico, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, is very good. A large selection of dishes, fruit and desserts. There are several thematic restaurants: Madeiran, Asian and Italian. We didn't use the Italian one, the Madeiran one is rather mediocre when it comes to food, and the Asian one - an interesting culinary show once. SPA available from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. There is a jacuzzi, a steam sauna (approx.), a dry sauna (definitely too cold, approximately 75 degrees), and an indoor swimming pool. We had a side room for 2 people with an extra bed facing the street on the right side of the hotel looking from the swimming pool. There is a small drawback here - you can hear the ventilation working and smell the smells from the kitchen. Maybe a better option would be a room on the other side of the hotel. But if the windows overlook the swimming pool, noise may also be disturbing. The room itself was generally decent, but had a few minor drawbacks, such as a leaky door to the balcony (noise), a missing seal in the shower door, which allowed water to get onto the bathroom floor. But daily room cleaning and replacement of both bathroom and beach towels. Very clean. Friendly service at the reception, helpful maids, friendly service in the restaurant with a specific local sense of humor, which you have to accept, because it is not a manifestation of negative emotions, just small friendly jokes that create a nice atmosphere. The cool thing is that there were bottles in the room with a capacity of about 0.7 liters for filling with mineral water from hotel dispensers, so we could always take it with us. If your departure is later than the hotel check-in time, the hotel offers lunch and the possibility of using the swimming pool and SPA until the end of the day. They should have cut off the armbands after lunch at 3 p.m., but no one chased us and if we had asked for a coffee at the bar, they would have given it to us, even knowing that we were no longer formally guests. So friendly policy. There is free parking at the hotel, which is very convenient if you rent a car.

Good location on the Estrada Monumental, free parking in the extremely unkempt underground car park, which is also very creepy on the 2nd basement floor because it is dark.
Hotel corridor consists of a long, unloving corridor without pictures or other decorations.
Signs in the elevator are no longer legible.
Room
Unfortunately the shower is completely calcified, there is a risk of slipping after showering because the shower wall does not seal completely. Ants all over the room, which felt very comfortable. Nothing was done about these roommates.
Room a bit small. No coffee machine / tea station. No laundry bag available.
There is a flight document from the previous hotel guest in the closet, and this document was still there when we left.
1-ply toilet paper, an absolute no-go in a 5-star hotel.
Balcony with a small table and two plastic chairs.
No evening turndown service.
The usual note, thank you for protecting the environment by handling the towels carefully, which are then changed despite continued use. So no protection after all, what a pity.
Food
The food in the main restaurant was very good and there was a lot of choice. Towards the end of service hours, however, the selection was no longer as large or fresh.
We wanted to eat in the Asian restaurant. Unfortunately, you cannot make a reservation in the specialty restaurants, but have to stand in line. We then had no more space.
This practice in a 5-star hotel is unacceptable, as we as guests are robbed of valuable vacation time by having to stand in line on our vacation.
The snack bar by the pool offers no variety, the motto here is probably “groundhog day”.
Service
Unfortunately, far from worthy of 5 stars. No help unloading suitcases on arrival. No parking service. All the staff we came into contact with were very friendly.
Conclusion
Unfortunately, the hotel is not a 5-star hotel. The entire facility and standard does not match. We would not come back there as it does not come anywhere close to meeting the expectations of a 5-star hotel.

This was our first visit to Madeira and we couldn’t have picked a better hotel to stay in. When we arrived we were welcomed by Filipe who checked us in. He advised us that we had been upgraded and explained everything about the hotel in a warm and friendly manner. We couldn’t believe our luck when we walked into our room on the 9th floor on the front overlooking the pool and the sea! The room was huge with 2 king beds and large balcony. Everything was clean and modern. My husband has coeliac disease so has to eat gluten free. We found the restaurant had separate gluten free stations and all the food was well labelled. The staff were aware of contamination and it was so good to be able to enjoy our holiday without worrying about his health. They even made him a gluten free pizza but they made it in a different area to where normal pizzas were cooked. The pool area was lovely with plenty of beds and umbrellas and with easy access to food and drinks during the day if you didn’t want to go to the main restaurant . The bars are all well stocked with branded spirits and very good cocktails! All the staff in the hotel are friendly and the maid kept our room spotless. We used local buses to go into Funchal centre and the bus stop was just 2 minutes outside the hotel although taxis are fairly cheap. Overall the hotel is beautiful in every respect and if we go back to Madeira we will definitely be staying here again, anything else would be disappointing

Just returned after a weeks holiday, A good hotel, we were offered cold drinks and snacks on arrival, check in midday very easy and smooth with room ready. Room on 9th floor, it had two comfy king size beds with two large wardrobes with one containing the safe. The room and a quiet fridge with a few cans of pop and again topped up when used, they also supply two water bottles that can be topped up at stations in the hotel. Air con worked well too.Bathroom with walk in shower and two shower heads, our toiletries were replenished on a daily basis when used and the room serviced to a high standard daily. The room must have had a recent makeover as it looked fresh. The sun bed situation as been mentioned in other reviews, they are close together but not an issue in first week of Sept but can understand issues in high season, the entertainment area is a bit like an underpass, very dark and lifeless, it is open but the smoke from the smokers just lingers in the area.Cannot comment on the standard of the evening entertainment as we did not watch any.
The food in the buffet restaurant was good ( and yes we have stayed at many 5 star hotels before), with a decent selection of food with vegie options. The snack bar was a bonus to use, with the normal snack fare. they even lay on a self service continental breakie from midnight too 7am. The drinks to a good standard too. Not sure what type food some people expect from an all inc holiday, food was plenty, varied and warm/hot or cold as should be. If you expect gourmet food is all inc for you ?. We did not try the themed restaurants as we never got bored with the main one.
Bus into city centre 1.95 euro each ( catch no1 or 2) and a taxi was 7 euro.
Reviews are personal and we all look for different things, we enjoyed the stay, may have been different in high season.

We spent a week at the Enotel Lido in Funchal at the end of October. The cleanliness of the establishment is impeccable. The location on the Lido promenade is pleasant because the surroundings are beautiful and clean and walking there is really nice. Unfortunately, you cannot walk along the sea to the city center of Funchal because hotels are located on the seafront. It takes 40 minutes to go there on foot along a road but you can also take a bus (Rodoeste 01 and 02; €1.90 per trip) or a taxi (democratic price and no unpleasant surprises) which pass in front of the hotel.
The food at the buffets in the central restaurant is quite good and I really appreciated that bags were provided for your picnic in the morning; It's really better than the lunch packs of other hotels. There are also 3 themed restaurants open 3 evenings a week and we were all able to try them (be careful, it is without reservation so you have to show up early to hope to have a table); we liked being served at the table and it allowed us not to get tired of the central restaurant after a week. The cocktails are good and made with branded alcohols. The food at the pool snack bar is acceptable during the day but it is open 24 hours a day and in the middle of the night, the choice is quite limited and the quality is mediocre but it has the merit of existing. Fortunately because we arrived on the first evening more than an hour late and the restaurant was closing. The restaurant staff is kind and discreet. They let us put tables together as we wanted, which is not the case in all hotels.
About the swimming pools, the infinity one is quite cold but very beautiful. Too bad we don't have a view of the ocean because it's hidden by palm trees but it's still pretty. The indoor pool is not an indoor pool and the lighting is quite gloomy. The spa is magical but, contrary to what I read in reviews, it is forbidden for children. This is an advantage for the calm that reigns there even if I would have liked to go there with my children. In any case, wherever you swim, you are not disturbed by loud music as is sometimes the case in this type of hotel.
Concerning the room, I had asked for a pool view at no extra cost and therefore without guarantee but I got it. So much the better because the other rooms overlook parking lots. However, I believe that they all have at least a side view of the sea. A detail that surprised me was the very small bottles of shampoo, shower gel and other products; for ecological or economic reasons, hotels now install dispensers which they refill; It’s something to consider, right?
The last point on which I will speak is the Kids'Club. Its hours allow children to go to the Asian restaurant forbidden without them; it's cool. The girls did not speak French and were not very motivated. The TV is on all the time but luckily there is a trampoline and a bouncy castle.
In conclusion, I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. I would have liked to be closer to the city to get there more quickly on foot and my family would have preferred that there was a garden, greenery, a playground... But there is nothing to complain about at this hotel which is impeccably maintained.

We were guests at this Hotel for 2 weeks over the Christmas and New Year period. We had hesitated in making final payment for this holiday after reading some less than glowing reviews but there were plenty of positive reviews and 'don't you always get people who complain'! Our room on the east side of the hotel was over the staff entry and service area . There is a constant drone of the air conditioning systems. Regular emptying of the industrial bottle recycling bins . Staff do sit outside in this area on their breaks to smoke.as do other guests on their balconies . There was cooking / oil odours emitting from the area and the room was dark at all times . Mattresses are hard and there is not tea/coffee making facilities in the room which you would expect for a 5* .( provided when requested) There were 3 beds but only 1 chair in the room which is not ideal when you are there for2 weeks .We asked if we could move rooms on our first morning but this was evidently not possible as the hotel was full. Later in the week i asked again at reception for a change of room ,we were advised we could have a room on the opposite side of the corridor in the coming 2 days . The 2nd room was brighter and we were away from the constant noise and smells. As highlighted by other reviews the waiting ,bar and room servicing cleaning staff work very hard and the hotel is clean . The dining experience is challenging ; sitting in large noisy cafeteria having to join a queue of people to navigate around a buffet system Food is often warmish not hot and although variety and visually attractive quality is compromised because of mass catering. Sweets looked attractive but often bland and heavily loaded with gelatine . Your plate will be whisked away even when your partner is still eating . Staff are clearly told to get tables cleared as quicky as possible . You are definitely a number and not an individual in this large hotel. Although we were advised that this was an all inclusive + hotel we were so dissapointed that there was no choice of wine .it is the same red white and rose at all times / no choice or change for 2 weeks including Christmas and New Year . No single malt whiskies . A real dissapointment for wine drinkers . The 3 other small restaurants on site are only open on certain nights and you can not book so you take your chance with queuing .Fixed menu's that are not changed so again dissapointing and not 5 *.we did read a review that described this hotel / holiday experience as Butlins on steroids .Before we arrived we thought this to be a harsh and exaggerated comment however having had the experience we have had, we can appreciate why this comment had been made . Well done Enotel staff you work very hard . Jet 2 holidays this did not feel like a 5* inclusive plus Hotel . Dissapointing.

First impressions of the hotel were formed when meeting the Reception staff who were friendly and efficient . I sent a request to the hotel for a high floor and to be on the same floor as our friends . We were given rooms on the 10th Floor ( Top ) two doors away from our friends which was perfect . Room had a partial sea view and view of the pool . The room was exceptionally clean . It had a very comfortable bed . The bathroom was well equipped with shower and bath which included quality toiletries . TV had English news channels and several english speaking film and documentary channels . Aircon was quiet and worked perfectly. Room was cleaned and towels refreshed every day by an excellent cleaner . Free WIFI is very fast , relaible and I even picked it up on the promenade outside the rear of the hotel . I could easy watch a film while relaxing on a sunbed despite being surrounded by other people clearly doing the same . There was a wide variety of hot and cold food at the main restaurant . Quality and choice was very good indeed . We ate at the three speciality restaurants ( Italian , Madeiran and tepan yaki ) which are complimentary and available at different times throughout the week . All were excellent with friendly and efficient staff . Drinks at the various bars were always quickly available and we rarely had to queue for more than a minute . Red ,white wine and prosecco was perfectly acceptable and all other liquor was of a premium brand . Main restaurant staff were simply brilliant and attentive , constantly clearing tables and refreshing our drinks . Joanna went above and beyond when I had a slight stomach upset ( too much of a good thing unfortunately ) . Facilities including sunbeds ( which were always available without no one putting towels on at 0500hrs like in some places) were very good . Outdoor and indoor pools were great . Indoor pool is heated which is very nice when it rained on a couple of days . Spa facilities including jacuzzis are a nice complimentary touch . Overall this was a very relaxing holiday with no problems encountered whatsoever . I will definitely return.

We were first time visitors to Madeira and after looking at various hotel options in Funchal, decided to book the Enotel Lido. We were not disappointed. The location is perfect with stunning sea views and an access gate onto the promenade below the hotel. It is within walking distance of Funchal city centre - at a leisurely pace around 40 minutes or a 10-15 minute bus ride. We were given a corner sea facing room on the 5th floor and had a full balcony to ourselves. Clean, comfortable and well appointed. The aircon was not the best although our friends in the room next to us had great aircon. I think the hotel only offers all inclusive dining. The buffet was absolutely amazing whether it be for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Such an array of freshly prepared food to cater for all tastes. The choice of wine was not great - my friend and I could only drink the rose but that was fine by us. The local beer, Coral, is on tap and we enjoyed a variety of cocktails across three different bars. Nothing in the mini bar that we could see but to be honest we didn't really need it. There is no tea and coffee available in the rooms and would have been a nice to have. Apparently you can ask for a kettle but we didn't. The staff were always friendly and helpful and always visible. Entertainment was varied although not of a particularly high standard. We ate once in the Italian restaurant but found it to be a very rushed dining experience and didn't try any of the other restaurants as the buffet met all our needs. All in all, we were more than happy with this hotel and would have no hesitation in recommending it.

There isn’t a dress code as such nowadays. Years ago, men used to have to wear long trousers in the restaurant for an evening, but smart shorts are now acceptable. Most guests do tend to dress smartly on an evening in the restaurant.

No, but the bus goes from outside the hotel next door. My husband walked in to town several times, I managed it once as I am waiting for a knee replacement. The final stretch into town is very steep.
There are more places to choose from in the Funchal area.
