Before we left the states, I had some late night e-mail correspondences with Carmen as she does the night shift while waiting for all of the guests to return. We just started chatting about different things. I felt like I knew her before we even got there. I told her that after reading the reviews of their place, how could...

Staying at the Guest House Duoro was the best part of an amazing trip. The location can't be beat-- our room was overlooking the river and had an amazing view-- but Carmen and Joao were the best part of the trip. They greeted us like family (and brought us glasses of port when we checked in!), recommended the best places...

My wife and I travel extensively (and often expensively) for business around the US and Europe and we have experienced our share of exceptional large and small hotels. Still, we weren't quite pleasantly surprised by the standard of care shown by the owners of the Guest House Douro. The rooms are accomodating, well-designed and exceptionally clean. If you have ever...

As is obvious from the reviews, Douro Guest House is fabulous. My husband and I stayed for 4 nights and had a wonderful time. I don' need to regurgitate how clean the house/rooms are, how wonderful the breakfast is, and what great hosts Carmen and John are. This is why they have received 96% excellent reviews- something almost unheard of...

I'm almost a year late in writing this review, but wanted to say that Guest House Douro (which I found via TripAdvisor) was a wonderful place to start our honeymoon in Portugal. We arrived in Lisbon and immediately took a train to Porto and taxi to the guest house where Carmen sent us off to lunch while our room was...

This is the best hotel experience I have ever had. GHD is a beautiful hotel in the best location, run by gracious and caring people. The curfew didn't cause us too much trouble -- we'd done so much walking, exploring, eating and drinking (on Carmen's superb advice and recommendations) that we were happy to return to our beautiful room looking...

the location is beautiful, most rooms have views to the river Douro. The rooms themselves are confortable and clean, decorated in a modern style with a bohemian touch. Carme and Joao, the owners, will take care of everything (reservations, tips...) and are very helpful and friendly. Dont mess with the curfew though.

Words fail me in trying to sum up my three day stay at Guest House Douro! This world-heritage site, waterfront hotel has been exquisitely renovated by the hotel owners, Carmen and João, with care and quality worthy of a design hotel. Unlike most city hotels, spending some moments relaxing in my room with its spectacular view of the Douro was...

Facing the Douro on one side and a medieval street on the other, this beautifully-realized small hotel offers wonderful hospitality, and delicious breakfasts, in the best Ribera location.

The accommodations were outstanding. The location perfect. However, the best was the five star treatment my family received from the owners. Could not recommend the Guest House Douro any more enthusiastically.
