Nestled in the heart of Porto, the InterContinental Porto - Palacio Das Cardosas is celebrated for its elegant atmosphere and prime location, convenient for guests eager to explore the city's attractions. While the hotel's luxurious amenities and exceptional service are frequently lauded, with special mentions of the generous welcome gifts and extensive breakfast, some guests feel that the value proposition is diminished due to the high cost of extras and dining. Although the majority of travelers find the rooms comfortable and praise the hotel's overall cleanliness, there are occasional remarks about noise disruptions and cleanliness issues in rooms.

This hotel has a great location in the centre of the city temporarily affected by the development of a new Metro station. The hotel oozes class but then you wonder why it’s only number 28 in Porto. We were fortunate to stay in a very nice room but There was a disappointing aspect to our stay. The breakfast buffet is very limited and unadventurous. Very little fruit and the hot buffet is not hot . More of the standard of a three star hotel.
They really need to step up the section and provide larger portions when ordering extra such as waffles and pancakes.
This hotel has a gym and some treatment rooms, but lack of pool may affect some people for the prices offered here. Staff are friendly, especially in the bar.
Overall, a good stay but expensive and needs a bit of a wake up call in terms of the catering..

The staff always showed their truly smile all the time that you can expect to have a great day every morning. Besides their warmth and patience, the vibe is amazing and you feel you are part of Porto already, I really enjoyed the stay and explored almost every corner of Porto!

The hotel was great, the room was spacious and comfortable. Room service was great on our last night and housekeeping was accommodating and punctual. The location right in the middle of the city is ideal for walking to shops, cafes and meals. Front desk staff as well as the concierge and door staff were incredibly helpful and helped us choose what to do.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Intercontinental Porto which we booked through the American Express Fine Hotels and Resorts program.

As many other reviews point out, the construction of the new metro line at the door of the hotel is a slight inconvenience but once inside the hotel it was not at all a problem as our room faced the back of the hotel or the city (which is better in any case as it has a view). As part of the FHR program we were meant to receive a room upgrade however the check in agent advised that the upgraded room would face the street with the construction noise. In any case, we were very happy with our spacious and well-appointed entry level room.

For a tourist visiting Porto, the location of the hotel is fantastic. The hotel is a converted old palace. It is across the street from the Sao Bento railway and metro station and other than getting the metro from the airport, and once across the big bridge to get to Vila Nova de Gaia we walked everywhere. Just behind the hotel is the pedestrian-only street that runs down to the waterfront. In the other direction are all of the other main sights in Porto.

The hotel breakfast was good quality with a combination of buffet and included a la carte options. Our only disappointment with the breakfast was that it didn't start until 730 in the morning which was quite late and unhelpful when we had a mid-morning flight out of Porto. We weren't as thrilled with the hotel restaurant for dinner. Instead of the more usual Amex FHR benefit of a hotel credit, we were offered a Euro 90 voucher for lunch or dinner at the hotel restaurant (excluding alcoholic beverages). We had dinner at the hotel one night and although the food was OK, it was soulless with the ambience of a generic hotel restaurant. With so many fabulous restaurants a short walk from the hotel, it was a bit of a let down, albeit free.

The hotel facilities are limited which is understandable given the location and style of the hotel. There is no pool (and Porto is hot in the summer) and the gym on the basement floor is basic at best.

The staff were consistently wonderful and I would have no hesitation staying here again.

The hotel is located right in the center of Porto and this allows you to get anywhere on foot in a short time. Great service at the reception, whose staff speaks perfect English. The impression at the entrance is of elegance and cleanliness. Our room, a triple, was very large, with two large windows and a marble bathroom and toilet separated from the shower room, with a bathtub and a very large mirror. A comfortable sofa in front of the TV allows you to enjoy the aperitif in complete relaxation. Very comfortable beds and excellent breakfast.
Excellent accommodation for a stay and really no note to make to the management of the hotel, very attentive to the needs of the customer.

Extremely comfortable hotel, best bed for my lower back I have slept on in years. Was traveling with my sibling and her partner, the hotel graciously offered us rooms near each other which was totally appreciated.

The bar is a very comfortable environment to meet up with folk. The barstools were even comfortable and normally they don’t work so well for people of a shorter stature. Charlie, the barman mixes a lovely cocktails and has good recommendations for both wine and port. His engaging personality and warm smile was very welcoming.

I spent a lot more time in my room than I normally do while traveling due to a sinus infection. The massive rainfall shower head was something I had seen in design magazines and was glad to have the experience. The shower room has a very good make-up,shaving mirror. The products (shower gel, shampoo and conditioner) were all good. I liked the scent and I know Liberty carries the brand. The heated towel rail worked a treat on both towels and to heat up my night before bed.

The bedside reading lamps provide excellent light and I would stay again because it was fabulous.

The small curved couch was perfect for reading and was lit wonderfully as well.

The room had tons of storage, both drawers and hanging - with proper wooden hangers. The room comes with bath robes and slippers and just about every amenity required.
The fitness room had everything I needed in terms of benches, cardio equipment and free weights.

Spent a few nights at the hotel in Porto. The hotel is elegant and the room was comfortable and quiet. Appreciate we weren’t nickel and dime’d for the water, given the premium price we paid to stay at the hotel.
My only point of contention is that while the buffet breakfast is extensive and delicious, which we had every morning, the hotel accommodates large tour groups who monopolize the buffet first thing in the morning. If you can hold off on breakfast, I recommend going later when the room has had a chance to clear.
In addition, if you have an early morning flight, don’t opt for a breakfast box - coffee wasn’t included and hot water for the quick cooking oats wasn’t included. Buy breakfast elsewhere.

The location is very good and easy to reach Rest / tourist attractions but breakfast is so simple for asian & cold for fried rice & soup. We usually eat soup & rice as hot food not warm. The rest should have prepared rice& soup hot. Also everyday same menu is a little boring for us.

Our trip had to be postponed twice due to Covid but it was well worth the wait. Reservations were very helpful, moving our reservation both times, especially Ines who made sure we got a beautiful room. We changed from the Junior Suite with a view to a one bedroom suite because of the building works on the new metro system which goes right up to the front of the hotel. Our suite was so very comfortable and I loved the bathroom. One of the best showers ever. The bed and linens were simply heaven and the room was serviced very well. Superb check in.Superb breakfast and great bar service from the hotel sommelier who was covering. Beautiful cocktails and comfy seating in public areas. We used the terrace one afternoon. The hotel doormen were always cheerful, chatty and welcoming. The Concierge team were absolutely 5 star, top Class. They greeted me by name every day for our 5 day stay. They made great suggestions for our restaurants and booked these 1 month in advance - something you really need to do in Porto to avoid endless walking round trying to get in. This completely took the stress out of finding good places to eat and we just turned up each evening and went to our table. There are many great hotels in Porto for all budgets but if I return to Porto I will go back to this fantastic place. My husband and I were made to feel like extremely valued guests. My thanks to EVERY member of staff. Much appreciated.

*American traveler - please 'thumbs up' if helpful*

The Intercontinental and more importantly Hugo and Thiago have made my 5 year Anniversary absolutely incredible. The customer service received begins long before arrival; Ines and Mariana were both extremely helpful during my reservation process as I had some special requests which they had to accommodate. Subsequently, Joao and Francisca took care of all the arrangements getting me to and from the airport. When we arrived there was a beautiful and more importantly comfortable black Mercedes Van waiting for right at the door of the terminal; the driver was pleasant and it set the tone to what turned out to be a fantastic trip.

Hugo was the first person we met when we arrived and literally one of the last people we saw when we left. There wasn’t a day where he didn’t walk in with us as we chatted about our day in Porto. He was never intrusive, and all the interactions felt incredibly genuine and comfortable. On our last evening, he was cognicent of our departure and even went as far as saying farewell to us before he left for the evening while we were having a drink by the bar.

Thiago was on hand during our entire trip to take care of anything we needed. Whether it was show reservations, taxis, dinner plans, you name it…. Thiago picked up the phone and took care of it. I simply cannot stress enough that although the hotel itself is absolutely stunning the team are the true stars.

With that out of the way… the hotel was perfectly located in the middle of downtown, close to everything, easily accessible and stunning. The room was comfortable and the attached bar and restaurant made it very easy to have a nice evening “in” after a long day out walking through Porto. There was under heavy construction during our visit but we the experience was so amazing that it wasn’t even something we thought about.

If you are in Porto and are comfortable with the cost. You MUST make this hotel one of your top picks. Be sure to say “hello” to Hugo and Thiago when you’re there.

We stayed there in September, and construction was ongoing at the time. It created no problems then and did not interfere with our stay or our enjoyment of Porto. Great hotel and location.
