The hotel is in a central location. The rooms were comfortable and the staff were helpful. Breakfast was nice and offered plenty of variety. I had dinner once at the restaurant and it was really tasty. They also provided overnight parking for a fee. I would love to go back soon!
Having traveled in portugal for 3 weeks and staying in wonderful properties, this hotel is a disappointment in several ways. I would have given it a worse review but they tried hard to remedy several bad situations. The good. Rooms are modern and simplistic. Mine was quiet although facing a square. The evening crew were great and took care of me. The bad. Walking in, it's has no soul. It looks like a hospital lobby. The restaurant is like a communal cafe you'd find a lower star hotel. There were no slippers. No robe. No iron. No free coffee. A Euro for a pod of Nespresso? No complimentary water to make the 1eu coffee. To get ICE in the room, you had to order it. AND pay 5eu. They make a point of focusing solely on the dollar side and not the customer experience. I had a spa appointment so I could use my voucher from AMEX. The Spa desk person had no idea who I was and if I had an appointment. He had to call around. Now they only book 1 person in the morning and 1 in the afternoon due to covid practices. He had no clue. So apparently the therapist had car problems. Which can happen. However after pleading for a gown, towels, and normal spa gear like a key to the locker, I waited and waited. Eventually I got up and he said 10 mins. These things can happen it's how the situation is handled. He never came to let me know and I had to request the guest relations manager to come and tell me what happened. The treatment was good tho. Finally. Breakfast. I was only given the option to eat at 8 a.m. the first day. And told I had to leave by 8:45 because a big group was coming in. OK I abided by the rules. But they could had offered room service as an alternative This is a team of professional athletes who travel together in mass and were everywhere. I didn't feel comfortable. The second day, I just showed up around 8:45 am and the restaurant was packed. There wasn't an empty table in the restaurant. From one day to the next - completely different rules. I was totally uncomfortable and having been quarantined for 10 months due to cancer and surgery, I felt exposed for the first time. I will go get a covid test in the next day or so. This is not a vacation friendly hotel. It's a corporate hotel. I'm moving to a new property for the rest of my stay.…
Stone arches from the old Post Office entry decorated the lobby with postage stamp theme throughout (walls, carpets, elevators). Excellent precautions for COVID...masks required, sanitzer available. Guests need to sign up for a breakfast time to ensure safe distance between tables/diners. Staff excellent. want to highlight especially great service from Bruno & Monica.
This is a 4 star hotel (with a 4 star price) and unfortunately it leaves a lot to be desired. Room service: We stayed 5 nights. The first three days, everything was restocked and cleaned and great. The last two days, we had to call reception because we didn't get toilet paper, shampoo, coffee, water.... Only our beds were made and everything else was abandoned, as if we had stayed so long that they no longer cared about us. Location: Yes, it's "close" to Sao Bento and the tourist areas, but be aware that it is a steep uphill walk. We didn't mind too much but what we did NOT like is that the square in front of the hotel is a go-to place for Porto's less fortunate. We saw them bathing in the fountain, washing their clothes and shaving in the fountain.... not very pleasent to walk through every day. Charitable meal delivery also takes place on this square at night. Pool: You have to reserve a timeslot (because of Covid) which is a good solution, except the person working the pool is not good at making sure guests leave when their time is up. We arrived to find a couple making out and almost getting it on inside the pool. When they were told their time was finished, they refused to leave. Ridiculous. Breakfast: Adapted well to Covid (buffet served by staff) but the options are limited. We were told we could order fresh eggs, so we asked for poached. The eggs that arrived were floating in vinegar. Inedible.…
A difficult review, I start from 5 and reduce based on a number of factors and then look for reasons to give the stars back. Badly impacted by Coronavirus and we also had the crane working from 7:30, not 10. We originally chose a junior at the NH Jardim And accepted a transfer to the family room at the Batalha. We took advantage of the summer saver and splashed out for the balcony. We were pleased with the balcony until we saw from the road a naked man who apparently was in our room. Rushing back to our room we found out that our balcony shared the aperture with the room above. The man was not naked in our room but in his own on the 5th floor. On the Tuesday we found further annoyance with cigarette ash on our balcony presumably from above. Talk about overlooked could reach up and shake hands. Breakfast was understandably a staggered affair with slots from 7:00 till 11: 00. The choice did become reduced the later you are. The hotel gym swimming pool and spa was open but the restrictions made it an attractive proposition and we didn't take advantage so cannot comment other than from what we saw. A small enclosed pool which for somebody like me was not ideal. The bar and restaurant was open but the lack of customers didn't make it welcoming especially with the hotel being situated on the Square surrounded by cafes and restaurants. By the way the steak sandwich "roll" at O Melhor next door were divine. £3.50 well worth it for 3/4 inch thick steak.excellent owners staff most welcoming vinho Verde and beer excellent and well priced. Bed absolutely one of the most comfortable, could have been at home. Bathroom had a bidet and a tub which was one reason we chose our room not really a good enough reason to upgrade, spoilt now by walk in shower and other rooms had lovely examples. Towels, bathrobes, slippers were great. Sitting area sofa bed was superfluous for us and the TV was annoying as it was also controlled by the bedroom remote control. So we ended up with two TV's not always playing the same channel! Not resolved by hotel. Hotel well sited but glad to having took advantage of the two day historic tram meant three tram rides and at the Atlantic Ocean. Porto was lovely, there is so much to do and so much to save for another visit. Will I stay again at the Batalha, jury is out. Hotel in the city perhaps at the right price! Unfortunately there's not enough remedy for a five star review…
