The hotel felt very clean and clearly doing everything they could to maintain high cleanliness standards during covid, I felt completely safe at all times.
Staff were friendly.
The parking was very convenient and the hotel was easy to locate from the airport with our hire car. The parking is expensive, but you pay for convenience!!
I went for a massage and was very well looked after by Cleopatra. The ladies in the spa seemed very knowledgable.
The room was nice, good shower, however it didn’t really seem like a 5 star room as it was much more basic and not that big (compared to others I have stayed in) which is why I have only rated the hotel 4 out of 5. We had a view of the Acropolis, which was lovely, but we didn’t really use the balcony as it was always shaded so we preferred to sit on the rooftop so I don’t think you need to pay extra for the Acropolis view. Perhaps in a busier season when it is hotter this may be more beneficial however.
If I return to Athens I would definitely stay in this hotel again. Highly recommended, great location and had everything we needed for a wonderful couple of nights in the city. Loved this area!
Staff is polite and helpful and the breakfast is always great. This time, I visited on covid measures, so the breakfast options were way more limited but nonetheless adequate for my standards, you were asked to come to the buffet on sitting order to avoid overcrowding due to queues -appreciated that- then was individually served by a member of the staff, pointing out what I wanted and also got fresh vegetables on request which were not present on the buffet.
The rooms are comfortable, a bit outdated though, but I did not know there were other options like the so called eco, which appears to be renovated compared to the rooms with a lycabettus view or facing the uncovered area (they call it patio, but truly it is just an uncovered area, not a patio).
Never faced any kind of issue nor had any kind of complain.
I arrived by around 6 pm and I got exactly the room I booked. Before I left for dinner that night, I opened the envelope with the hotel information. Surprisingly, it was announced that there will be scheduled maintenance with no power from midnight to 1.30 am. I prepared my room by cooling down to the minimum (Athens was 30 degrees that day) and I planned to return by 11 pm so I would be sleeping during the power outage.
After dinner I returned to the hotel by around 11 pm and fell asleep not much later. At Midnight, a superbright lightbulb in the room went on (Emergency Light) and of course, I woke up due to the bright light. I arranged to remove the bulb from the emergency light, and I tried to sleep again. At the same time, a loud noise came from the courtyard – it was the Power Generator who ran at full power. I called reception to ask for another room with no noise and I was awarded a genuinely nice room to the outside with an Acropolis view. When I entered the room, it was 30 Degrees inside and of course no power to cool down. Additionally, the emergency light was lighting up the room – with no chance to sleep. This emergency light installation I could not fix myself, so I needed to call the reception again. After a long discussion, they sent an engineer to remove the light from the auxiliary power.
Due to the high temperature in the room, I opened the windows to the balcony to let some fresh air in. Below on the street, there were about 10 policemen on bikes waiting for their engagement and talking loudly. I still managed to fell asleep at around 00:40 in the morning. At 1 am the power came back, and all the outside lighting was turned automatically on again. As my doors to the balcony were open, I woke up the 2nd time that night, closed the windows and the curtains, switched on the A/C, and finally I could sleep for the night after 1 am.
My questions: Why is the hotel selling rooms the day before they know they have scheduled maintenance. If I would have known that there is no power for 1.5 hours, then I would have booked another hotel.
Why did the receptionist not inform me during the check-in about the maintenance and the generator noise in the courtyard rooms? We might have found a solution already at 6 pm. Due to Corona Regulations, the hotel was operating at 50% and there would have been many options. They could have given me the 2nd room directly. It would have been prepared for a good night's sleep and cooled down.
At check-out, I mentioned all this and all I got is sorry, and a 2 pm check-out. I would not recommend this hotel.
Staff is very polite and helpful, they all accommodate your requests in the best possible way.
Rooms were OK, but had a mold smell, not very disturbing though.
Bed very comfortable.
Room was made daily and fresh towels were offered together with complimentary water.
Room service was good as well, no delays and hotel was quite busy.
We stayed in the hotel from Thursday to Monday and it was a pleasant stay. Young man at the reception desk was very helpful. Initially the room we were given was extremely small and found it very hot. The air conditioned did not work and when the reception was contacted, he immediately attended to it and moved us to a different room. He also helped us with experiencing restaurants with Greek specialties. Very pleasant, professional and polite young man. Same can be said about the doorman and the restaurant staff. The staff at the restaurant were very good. The breakfast spread was extensive and included hot and cold delicious food.
Taster spa treatment was very good; which was offered to us when we checked into the hotel. However, we didn’t get the time to use the spa again due to our busy schedule. The spa in the basement of the hotel is very small which includes a treatment room, showers and sauna. I believe there is a pool is at the top floor of the hotel, not sure if this is heated as we never went there.
There was music on Saturday night on the Sky Bar at the hotel, they were very good and great entertainers. There were no major disturbances to us despite the building work.
However, some staff at the reception were not very welcoming! They didn’t even bother to acknowledge us when entering or leaving the hotel and certainly didn't bother to greet! More information about the hotel and the services offered could have been provided by the reception staff when we checked the hotel. We certainly didn’t know about the music and found that when we went in the night for a drink to the Sky Bar.
The rooms and bathrooms are nicely re-decorated and were spotlessly clean with stickers to indicate they have been sanitized. Bathroom shower 🚿 though is a bit complicated to operate .
We only had a one night stay but found the employees to be wonderfully hospitable.
The highlight was definitely having breakfast with a panoramic view of the city and the acropolis from the hotel rooftop.
This was definitely a great choice to stay at in Athens.
First the positives; our room was clean, the pool was decent with good service from the blonde waitress (sorry didn’t get your name!), and the views from the roof are great. These sadly don’t outweigh the many negatives that make this hotel a 3 star at best…
Our room was basic with very little storage, a loose cistern that moved every time we flushed the toilet and a bath but no tap! The only way to fill it was using the (scratched and slightly mouldy) shower head. There were no charging points by the bed so we had to use an old extension lead the lamps were plugged into to charge our phones.
The breakfast buffet was ok but minimal with no made to order options. I heard someone ask for one only to be told “no menu, just the buffet”; again not something you would expect in a 5 star hotel.
No matter what they say in response to reviews - there seems to be zero soundproofing. You can hear every noise from the corridor, and there was a party on the 6th floor one night that was so loud it was shaking the walls of our 4th floor room. When I complained, the receptionist, Christos, shrugged and said other guests had also complained so he’d ask them to turn it down but the music should stop by midnight, scoffing “what, do you want to go to bed now” as if it was somehow our fault for not wanting a disco in our room at 11pm!
This poor service continued when I told him that we hadn’t received the complimentary wine we’d been promised to which he laughed and said “it’s been 3 days what do you want me to do about it now, if you still want it speak to the manager”.
Also the light on our balcony wasn’t working and what should have been a quick fix turned into an ordeal! I was first told “there is no light” but when I pointed out I could see them on every other balcony I was rudely asked why it was important to us anyway, erm because we didn’t want to sit in the dark!! The light was eventually fixed on the fifth day of our stay with an interim ‘fix’ of a large standing lamp placed potentially dangerously on the small balcony via a cord running behind the tv.
We were made to feel that we were being an inconvenience asking for this basic amenity and at no point did we receive any form of apology, in fact quite the opposite. The front desk staff were very dismissive and didn’t even ask if we’d enjoyed our stay at check out. It’s also interesting that when they receive a negative review here a positive one from a first time reviewer appears almost immediately after… which is slightly suspicious!
If you look at my other contributions you’ll see I always look for the positives in my reviews but sadly there are few to be found at St George.
Unfortunately, the rooftop pool was not open (clearly April is not considered warm enough).
The plus - Located in a quiet, residential area (top of a hill) with amazing views of The acropolis and city beyond. Considerably less expensive than other 5* hotels in the city.
Comfortable beds.
The negative - staff lacking in acknowledgement when coming and going from the hotel. This annoys me, something so simple and basic makes all the difference to any establishment, whether it be a hotel or restaurant.
Room very disappointing. Size ok with great views of Acropolis (a supplement of €60.00 per night).
Room furniture not five star at all. Cheap and more suited to a four star hotel, three star at best. A mish mash of anything. Hotel is described as a "Lifestyle" hotel. whatever that means. Perspex furniture trying to look trendy but out of character. Chair did not fit under dressing table, rusty flexible bedside lamp, wonky bedside lamp that I mamaged to fix, sliding wardrobe door not working smoothly, exposed cables, dirt behind magnifying mirror attached to main mirror, towels old and hard. Balcony glass had clearly not been cleaned for some time. TV channel selection limited.
All these faults should be addressed by the House Keeping Manager and rectified before allowing guests to occupy the room.
Self service buffet breakfast offered a selection but the quality of food certainly not 5*. Processed ham, mini muffins very dry. No sign of an a la carte/made to order menu though partner did order poached eggs. Saving grace is the spectacular view. Wearing brown Ugg boots with black uniform whilst serving breakfast. Really..?
So, unfortunately for us it was a disappointing stay and upon reflection, the price should have raised alarm bells. Don't get me wrong, if It was listed as four star then the negative points would not have been such an issue. But to be graded as 5 star is not justified.
Should we return to Athens, would explore alternative options for accommodation.
