The location, panoramic rooftop views, breathtaking Acropolis lit and glowing at night convinced us to stay here. It was a very good choice. The breakfasts and dinners were all served from the rooftop terrace and gave us a wonderful feeling of the proximity to the cultural sights. On one side is the Acropolis in all its glory and on the...

We did some serious research before picking this hotel. We wanted a great view, a good neighbourhood, nice and soft beds, high service and a modern looking room. Furthermore the room was cleaned and bedlinnen and towels changed everyday! The breakfast was wat we looked forward to every night! We had a superior room on level 6 with view at...

The location of this hotel is very good. Just a short walk to Acropolis. Subway (metro) station is 200 m away. Extraordinary view from the roof restaurant - you can the entire city - from Acropolis to the Pireus Harbour. The regular rooms are clean, not too large, unfortunelly. Most of them (at least the ones one our floor) had...

The best aspect of this hotel is its central location. It is a short cab-drive from Syntagma square, a short walk from Acropolis and a stone's throw away from Temple of Zeus. With the Acropolis metro station being very close by, this hotel is well connected to all major sights in Athens. For a higher price, you can get a...

A satisfactory room, but very small, great central location, with spectacular view from roof top lounge. Nice breakfast, adequate but a little standoffish service overall. We had an enjoyable stay and were generally happy with our accommodations.

Accommodation is good value, clean and comfortable although a little short of seating area/space in the room. Fantastic view from the rooftop restaurant for breakfast. Staff helpful and obliging. Very central location and close to the metro.

The hotel is walking distance to shops, restaurants, Temple of Zeus and Acropolis. Check in was smooth and quick. Room was clean, but bath is small. We were upgraded next day to a room with bigger bath which made it better. Buffet breakfast selection was good with nice view of the Acropolis.

Just spent a five day city break staying at Athens Gate. The hotel is a superb place to stay if you don't require pool and spa type facilities. The location is great with fabulous views over the Acropolis and temple of Zeus and is quite handy for Athens centre for shopping and the many eateries and restaurants. The rooms are...

We have just stayed here along with three other couples over February half term and we were all very impressed with the quality of the hotel. The location is perfect and to have breakfast in the roof terrace overlooking the acropolis is amazing. The rooms, though smallish, are very clean. Overall, a great place to stay for a city break.

I chose this hotel based on the excellent reviews that I found on trip advisor. We stayed for 4 nights and booked a room on the 7th floor overlooking the Acropolis. The view was breathtaking. The room was spacious, comfortable and clean. The breakfast was delicious and we ended up eating dinner at the hotel twice because the food was...

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighbourhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianised Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centrepiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
