We expected hard beds but thrilled to find very comfy beds at the philippos. The quiet location is excellent. 5 minutes to the Acropolis south entrance (preferred), the Acropolis museum and the Akropli metro station and a lovely 10 - 15 minute walk to the less touristy thissios area. And there is a wonderful bakery, small market and wine/coffee bar...

Stayed here with 4 children and 3 adults for 4 nights. We had 2 rooms on one of the upper floors and the views were awesome! There was plenty of room and everyone had a bed. The mattress I had was a little dipped in the middle but still was somewhat comfortable. Rooms were very clean with plenty of room....

This hotel couldn't be better located, so close to the Acropolis, the Acropolis Museum, and a large pedestrian area with many, many restaurants. This small hotel has attractive public areas, an excellent breakfast that features both local and traveler favorites, and a friendly and helpful desk staff. Our room was small but clean and comfortable, however the bathroom was very...

Great location and super friendly staff. This is not an American hotel in a foreign country so if this is important to you, you may be disappointed. However, if you are a regular traveler, you will find wonderful staff, a great location and a good value. Next time I am in Athens, I shall return to this hotel.

Spent long week-end at a Conference nearby. Very impressed with this quiet yet central location. It was early December but Athens still busy. The Hotel was spotless, room small but comfortable for one person. The staff were quietly efficient, breakfast plentiful. A bargain at a budget price!

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighbourhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianised Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centrepiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
