Lovely hotel. Stayed here with my 10yr old son for 4 days. As previously mentioned the rooms are small however as we only used this as a base to see as much as possible Athens has to offer it was great. Staff were patient and helpful answering my sons barrage of questions. We had a twin room that suited our...

Just returned from the Philippos Hotel in Athens It was a 50th birthday trip, First impression was OMG what have we booked, on a dirty back street a stones throw from the Acropolis, cars parked everywhere on the pavements around the corners double parked, just anywhere a car could be left. There is no concession for disabled people, to get...

The location is fantastic, very convenient to Acropolis Museum and Metro station, and an easy walk to all the restaurants of Plaka. The hotel is on two quiet streets, a real plus in Athens. Most rooms face the street and have balconies, but there wasn't much traffic on the streets by the hotel. Also convenient to a grocery store and...

It felt like being at home but with all the advantages of a hotel. The staff was exceptionally helpful and friendly, especially when I had walked into a thick glass window at the car hire office - bags of ice and whisky helped me recover! A very good breakfast, comfortable rooms, easy internet access for those without their own laptops...

Visited this hotel for 4 nights. Pros: Very good location, good breakfast, good service. Cons: small rooms, walls are thin so you could hear other people in other rooms. Overall nice hotel, we would recommend it.

To have earned your recommendation is very important. Thank you for your comments and for praising our efforts; yet on the matter of our rooms being noisy, PHILIPPOS Hotel when being last renovated applied in detail the specifications of the study carried out by the acoustic specialist and expert Dr.G.Schubert providing for soundproofing per room of less than 50 db....

The Philippos is ideally located for exploring the sites and shopping in the Plaka or Monistriki areas. The metro station is also close. They have recently done some remodeling and the décor is beautiful. Some of the rooms are on the small side, but all I need a room for is sleeping! The breakfast was excellent. The staff is what...

This hotel was wonderful. It is clean, and in the best location. The breakfast was excellent and the staff are long time employees that treat one another as family. We went back again as we had a choice and love the place.

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighbourhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianised Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centrepiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
