The InterContinental Athenaeum Athens stands out for its friendly and professional service, especially in the club lounge, despite occasional lapses in room readiness. While its location receives mixed feedback, the spacious suites and cleanliness earn high marks, though some guests feel updates are needed.
The Club lounge's views of the Acropolis are a highlight, alongside varied amenities. However, the value proposition is questioned by some due to the pricing of certain services.

The location of the hotel is not the best, but it is walkable to the Plaka district in around 25-30mins (or you can take the tram or metro). If driving, there's a large underground car park which is €21 per day.
Due to our Diamond Elite status, we were upgraded to one of their huge suites on the 9th floor. The big plus point was the stunning uninterrupted view of the Acropolis from the large terrace. On the downside, the welcome 'gift' consisted of a large bottle of water and two glasses together with a personalised note. Whilst we understand that hotels have to control their costs, something a little more 'welcoming' for their top tier guests would have a greater positive impact. There were also no USB sockets anywhere to be found. In fact, the hotel throughout did feel quite dated albeit well maintained. Maybe this will change as one side of the hotel was undergoing renovations when we stayed.
There's a nice outdoor pool which unfortunately was closed for the winter season. The gym is a reasonable size with a good range of machines.
The large lobby bar - although not particularly cosy - had a nice ambience with great staff. There's also a nice bar/restaurant on the 10th floor with great views. Breakfast was a buffet arrangement which was good but not outstanding. It also included an egg station and a coffee station serving excellent specialty coffee.
All things considered, we enjoyed our stay here and especially the views from our suite.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Despite not located near the tourist areas, taxis are readily available and it is a convenient spot for pick-up/drop-off when you join organised tours.
We booked a "King Classic Club Lounge Access Acropolis View" and was upgraded to a suite upon check-in at the Club reception! Suite was perfect - clean, comfortable beds, spacious toilet and bath (only improvement is the shower door as it doesnt close fully and water drips on the floor outside the bathtub) and of course a spectacular view of the Parthenon from our own balcony.
Eleni and her colleagues at the club reception were very helpful - from booking our tour to Sounion and organizing a private car/driver for Delphi, to enabling a late check-out for us, to even ordering Starbucks via Wolt app (compared to the lobby concierge who was very unhelpful and a bit rude to us when we asked for help!)
Breakfast buffet is available at Cafe Zoe as well as club lounge and we opted for the cafe and there is a good range of standard breakfast fare with very attentive staff for coffee and clearing tables. Bonus is that it is open from 6:30 up to 11am!
Tip: Enrol in the IHG One Rewards when booking Intercontinental Hotels đź‘Ťđź‘Ť

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
This is a great hotel, well-run and well-managed, superb symbol of what the InterContinental brand stands for. It's clean and well-kept, the employees are pro-active and seem to enjoy their jobs. The lobby, conference center and surrounding restaurants are beautiful. I've had a few requests (mainly to housekeeping to replenish some items) which were fulfilled properly and quickly.
Great dinner at artbistrot (albeit on the expensive side for the neighborhood) and breakfast one morning, and thoroughly enjoyed all dining options. I have not managed to try the Premiere restaurant, since it was closed on the days I was not jet-lagged (a lot of places in Athens would open for dinner only around 7-8). One suggestion (if the hotel management is reading this) - how about a self-serve coffee/tea station at breakfast? When it gets busy, the employee in charge of coffee just seems to be over-whelmed.
The only part you have to consider is the hotel's proximity to old town and Acropolis - it's not far, but the walk requires navigating busy streets and pedestrian crossings. The neighborhood is also a bit rundown, with some houses looking abandoned. However, it seemed safe at all times, and everything that hotel controlled (lobby, restaurants, cleanliness, housekeeping requests) was executed well. I'll stay here if I return to Athens.
Transportation-wise this InterContinental is close to a tram station (about $1.20 a trip, covers good portion of the city) and maybe 7-10 minutes walk to a subway station. Heads-up that Athens' "legendary" cake shop - Konstantinidis - is maybe 5 min walk away. If you're into mille-feuille (and traditional desserts like baklava), it's well-worth a visit for a takeout. Same neighborhood also contained quite a few coffee shops.

We had a wonderful stay at the intercontinental hotel in Athens. We had booked a one bedroom suite and we were very pleasantly surprised by the size of the room. It was huge, with very big balcony with an amazing view of the Acropolis and the Parthenon Temple, Filopappou Hill and Lycabetus Hill. The room had two bathrooms with lots of amenities and it was always spotlessly clean. There was turn down service every evening. We had access to the lounge, which was really worth it. This lounge had the best and most varied food and breakfast in any hotel we have stayed at with lounge access and at early dinner time there was even cooked food! The views from the lounge were magnificent and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The hotel is off the centre but well connected with many buses passing in front of it a Syngrou Avenue, kasomouli tram stop being 3 minutes walk away and the Syngrou- Fix metro station about 7 minutes’ walk. A taxi ride from central Athens to the hotel is about 5 euros, only 5-8 minutes away, and it is a bit more when you pick up the taxi outside the hotel. The spectacular Stavros Niarchos Cultural Foundation, excellent for a stroll, lunch, a visit to the library or the opera, is a short ride away. We would definitely recommend this hotel for families or couples and we are looking forward to visiting again. In the past we have been staying at a lovely hotel which is in the centre, but for the same price, the size of the room and the lounge access at the Intercontinental, are non- comparable.

We stayed at the Athens InterContinental at the end of our trip to Greece, and we were impressed with the size of the property and exceptional service from all the staff members. Special recognition to Georgia at reception, who helped my husband find a nearby KEP office for a notary ahead of our next day flight home. The rooms are very spacious, and we liked having a large marble bathroom and relaxing bathtub. We are IHG rewards members , and we took advantage of the discount on the wonderful morning breakfast buffet which includes hot and cold meats, poached eggs, beautiful breads and pastries, Greek yogurt, rice pudding, assorted nuts, honey, fresh fruits in season, and fantastic coffee. The feel of the hotel property is very corporate, and you’ll see large groups of flight crews and air hostesses along with convention and tour groups in the lobby. You won’t feel crowded at all, because the hotel is so large. The lobby bar was the perfect spot for a business meetup. The rooftop views of the Acropolis and Parthenon are really breathtaking at night and worth a quick peek.

Exceptional stay. The hotel reception was cool and airy when we arrived which was well needed Welcomed by happy staff. Check in was quick and easy. Went to our room which was lovely, large and very clean. The bed was wonderfully comfortable with great pillows. Brilliant black out curtains that led to the best sleep I have had in ages. We then went to the bar area in the lobby to have a bite to eat and a cocktail and beer. The prices are pretty much the same as the uk. Good quality drinks and lovely food. The hotel breakfast is huge. Very much recommend it to start the day. So much variety and constantly being replenished. Very impressed. Location is a 5 min walk to the tram stop - under €2 to get to the centre of Athens only takes about 15/20min, taxis right outside the hotel €7-€10 to the centre then there is also the option of Uber. Being just outside the city centre was nice as no pressure to do anything. We had a lovely pool day at the hotel - George came round regularly asking if we needed drinks/food or anything. Lovely clean area, fresh towels and I thought it was relaxing space.

This is the hotel we stayed at here in Athens Greece, We got club access and the food tasted really delicious. Now the Con, we checked in to our rooms. Unfortunately the beds were wobbly, I almost fell given on how wobbly the bed was. This is truly a safety hazard to the hotel guests. If someone falls it would not be pleasant. I would recommend getting your beds fixed with brakes or replaced to prevent this from happening. Staff were very polite. If you’re staying here, please be careful of the beds here as they are wobbly.

3 star experience but 5 star price. Arrived and we were ushered up to the private 8th floor to check in - which seemed impressive as if we were in for a treat - sadly the experience didn’t live up to the number of stars or the exclusive floor we were on.
Our room only had one bath towel - there were two of us
My wife washed her hair and needed to promptly dry her hair. Called “instant service” to report this - “we’ll send one right up”
10 minutes later nothing appeared. Called again. 10 more minutes pass - nothing.
Go to 8th floor reception for our exclusive floor - they check our room and see there’s no hair drying (like no sh|t Sherlock we weren’t making it up).
My wife is shown into another room nearby to do her hair.
Next day we leave our room at 9am, we get back at 2:30pm - our room isn’t made up, no clean towels.
Someone needs to be fired here and replaced with someone who knows good service - this is NOT a five star hotel but amateur hour 3 star in a fancy building.
Beds are comfortable and shower water pressure is ok. We had one power outage at 8am which even caused the water to stop working.

We stayed at the InterContinental Athenaeum Athens in April 2022 for 1 night in a Premium City View Room.
Location:
We chose the InterContinental Athenaeum for it's somewhat close proximity to the airport (~30 mins) Acropolis, and views of Lycabettus Hill for our overnight stay before we journeyed further in Greece.
It's a large hotel, conference like views but designed in the contemporary style with reasonable sized rooms which were clean. The internet speed was incredibly fast, which was impressive.
As it was such a short stay, we cannot comment on the full amenities, but would say that as an IHG hotel loyalty member, we were not disappointed as it suited our needs, was well appointed, closely situated to all the sites and the staff were customer service oriented - so good value for money.
We would rate the InterContinental Athenaeum Athens a 6/10.

I was staying in the hotel as part of a Viking Cruise extension (=an organized trip at the end of a cruise). The hotel was comfortable, my room spacious and clean, and all the basics fine. The breakfast buffet was to die for! Really a bountiful feast including some specifically Greek options (cheeses, pastries).
I was quite happy when I was well, but when I became ill toward the end of my stay and had to extend my stay and quarantine, I was bowled over by the kindness of everyone at the hotel. The manager arranged a reasonable rate for the extra nights and was flexible about how long my stay would be; housekeeping was thoughtful about checking on my needs. Best of all, the amazing women in charge of room service sent up wonderful breakfasts for me (as part of the 'included buffet') that were my main meal most days since my appetite was light. Being on my own and ill and far from home, I was extremely grateful for being treated with such consideration (instead of being treated as an inconvenience, as I might have been elsewhere).
