I booked this hotel by 'phone as it came highly recommended by a friend who stays here frequently. In terms of service and attention to detail from the front desk it is very good. However, do not book a room on the ground floor! Described as a double with street view and bathroom, I entered to find a highly compact...

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and had a great stay. The building is old but with a lot of history and character just like everything in Athens. There are little notes around the hotel telling the story of earthquakes and hidden artwork. Our room was old but clean large enough for the 4 of us bathroom was...

Many "heritage" hotels retain their historic exteriors but interior features are gutted and totally modernized; not so with the Acropolis House. The owner purchased the the building many years ago and has not only preserved the the interior, but offers an authentic Greek experience. The breakfasts are served in what must of have been a roomy front parlor. Look up...

As a family of four (two teenagers) we stayed here for three nights. Hotel is in a great location near to many cafes, restaurants, ancient sights, trains/trams and souvenir shops. Our room was located on the top floor, so needed to carry suitcases up three flights of stairs. Bathroom was very small but our beds were comfortable, the breakfast buffet...

Still cash only in April of 2017. They have a credit card machine, they just don't want to pay the fee. Basically, what the problem is is that they are cheap. Example: one afternoon I was filling up a little water bottle from the water dispenser in the breakfast area. The owner said 'you can't do that, it's only for...

Good value hotel in a good location. Walking distance to the airport express bus stop, Athens sight-seeing places and restaurants. Staff were helpful. The homemade Greek food stuff at breakfast was very good. Decor in room was old fashioned but clean. Bed is on the firm side. Toilet is small. Drainage in the shower is poor. As a result, I...

I loved the place and the staff! The hotel was a rich family house of the last century, turned into a nice hotel. Hall, living room and dining room show the original decorations (loved it!). Rooms are nice and comfortable, some with a balcony. Then, the best part of the stay is breakfast! The most rich, delicious and healthy choice...

I spent four nights here in October 2016. The price was definitely right, but the experience was lacking overall. First, the pros: the location is good, in easy walking distance of the Snytagma metro and airport express bus stop, not to mention the Acropolis and all of the shops and restaurants that Plaka has to offer; the front desk was...

Browsing several sites this familyrun hotel stood out. Everything I red was true 😀. Quaint, genuine, clean, homely, welcoming and perfectly situated for sightseeing. Lots and lots of restaurants nearby. We had a room with a small balcony overlooking the street. It was nice sitting there drinking a cold beer inbetween diffrent activities. The breakfast was really good, several homecooked...

Family run business which is in the very heart of the city, with Acropolis visible from the windows. Small but very very cosy. Everything you need, 24h reception, clean very clean rooms and bathrooms. Very clean sheets and towels. Toiletries provided. Breakfast included with freshly baked bread every morning. A fridge, for things like water/some food. TV has many English...

Staying in Plaka

Neighbourhood Profile
Due to its proximity to the Acropolis, Plaka remains the area where the majority of foreign visitors stay and play. Its attractive features include small squares, some notable museums and the beautiful Mitropolis cathedral, as well as a host of places to stay, eat and drink. Its pedestrian zones make it a pleasant place to escape from the city’s notorious traffic. Adrianou and Kidathineon Streets contain a number of souvenir shops, offering classier items than you will find in the Flea Market. The most rewarding section to explore is the upper reaches towards the Acropolis itself, where many old stone houses with tiled roofs have survived. Up here you can find leafier corners and the odd quaint taverna with unobstructed views of the ancient rock.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hotel Acropolis House is a preserved mansion of the last century, in excellent condition. It is consisted essentially of two different buildings together. The oldest of these is a stone manor house about 120 years old and the other is well-built four-floor building of 75 years. In 1965 it was modified to a hotel from the family Choudalakis, which operates since. Generally the hotel is a two star family business with character, providing security and full service to both families, and unique people who respect the identity of the hotel. In total the hotel has comfortable single, double and large rooms for families. The Hotel Acropolis House has a non smoking policy in all areas. Guests may smoke in the terrace of the first floor. Hotel Acropolis House is located at the gates of Plaka having so the advantage of being close to all the interesting places without the disadvantage of the hustle of the people and vehicles visiting the site. It is situated in a stunning location, either for professional or tourist as it is a 10-minute walk from the monument of Acropolis and the New Acropolis Museum, 3 minutes from Syntagma Square and the metro / bus and 2 minutes from the commercial and business center of Athens. Near the hotel there are parking, museums, pharmacies and the tourist information office. The hotel has a breakfast room, which served continental style breakfast very early in the morning for early morning flights (from 07.30 Until 10.30). There is luggage storage and safe for customers. Finally, Hotel Acropolis House has a library, with a rich collection, to borrow books from. This is himself occasionally enriched by the customers. ... more   less
