When I initially booked this hotel, I was concerned that it was a little off the beaten path but upon arrival and checking various street maps, it became apparent that it was well placed, albeit on opposite sides of the city centre from where I'd stayed before. The Airotel sits on Makri, a quiet sidestreet leading off from Dionysiou Areopagitou,...

We had a great, if albeit very brief, stay here during our overnight in Athens. We arrived at the hotel and unpacked in our little two double-bed room. The location was right on the Plaka so we were able to immediately set out to explore the sites. We left really early the next morning to catch the ferry over to...

This is an older hotel with great service, perfect location and great breakfast. It's a 10 min walk to the Acropolois and 3 minutes to shopping, dining and rental cars in the Plaka. We had a very nice stay and would return.

My wife and I just returned from staying in the Airotel Parthenon in May. It was a wonderful stay. The location of the hotel is just on the outskirts of Plaka and walking distance to most every site in Athens. The Acropolis, Plaka, Zeus's Temple and Acient Agora and the metro are within minutes of the hotel on foot. Once...

We only had a couple of nights in Athens in our three week trip, and while the staff were very helpful and the location of this hotel was exceptional, the overall experience was let down by the quality of the rooms themselves. The first room we stayed in had a broken hairdryer (which didn't really bother me but wasn't great...

My wife and I spent our last two nights in Greece at this hotel. The rooms were clean (though not huge; our bed was two small single beds pushed together) and the staff helpful and friendly. We were able to walk to the Acropolis in a few minutes, and the surrounding Plaka neighborhood is vibrant and interesting, with all sorts...

We stayed here after our cruise from Venice. The rooms were more basic than the cruise, but they were clean, the staff very helpful and you can't beat the location. The hotel is surrounded by the Acropolis, the Temple of Zeus and the metro (all within 5 minute walking distance). It seemed that around every corner there's another ancient ruin...

Really enjoyed our week in Athens. This hotel turned out to be on a small side street just 2 short blocks from the Underground (Subway). The underground line from the airport to Syntagma Square is closed for a few more months, but you can take the X95 bus there for less than € 4. From there you can take the...

We chose this hotel because of trip advisor recommendations and we were so glad that we did! We only had one day following a 14 day cruise so we wanted to make the most of our time. This quiet hotel was within walking distance of everything we wanted to see-Acropolis, Plaka, changing of the guard at the Parliament, nice restaurants...

We stayed 3 nights during our honeymoon and we had a great time there. The location is great: very easy to access from the airport and very close to the Acropole and Plaka. Plaka is a very touristic area, plenty of restaurants, bars e stores. Most of the main atractions are around this area. This area can get very noise...

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighbourhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianised Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centrepiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
