Melia Athens garners praise for its array of amenities, notably the rooftop pool with its stunning Acropolis views and the comfortable accommodations that include a solid breakfast selection. Guests have called out the hotel's cleanliness, from the well-maintained rooms to the pristine common areas. Its central location is popular among travelers, despite some safety concerns in the surrounding areas. While the modern rooms are generally appreciated, some guests have noted issues with noise and air conditioning. The hotel's atmosphere and service receive acclaim, though there are occasional mentions of upselling and inefficiencies.

Melia Athens
Lovely modern peaceful room on 8th floor away from the main road (not much of a view overlooking the backs of other buildings, but it was more important to have it quiet). Great location and most attractions within a 25 minute walk. We took breakfast at the cafe one block down where great coffee and freshly baked croissant was only €3. Taxis were always available outside. WiFi was great. In room Fridge and safe. Lovely rituals fixed in position shampoo and conditioner in the shower, hand wash and body lotion above the sink but only body wash out of reach above the bath. So no shampoo or conditioner if you’re in the bath. Biggest disappointment was the cheap duvet and pillows that were hard and lumpy and only supply a travel sized hairdryer. Despite that, I would highly recommend the hotel for its quality service and location. Great value for money!

We arrived early in the morning and were told no rooms in our category were available. Two ladies who were already staying in the hotel were also at reception and wanted to move rooms..they were immediately given an available room in our category….. not a good start.
We sat and waited in a dark lounge. The coffee shop was not open and we had not been offered a drink on arrival which is pretty normal in hotels in warm climates. For some reason the pool didn’t even open till 10;30 so forget any idea of a pre breakfast swim; and of course we couldn’t even sit in the sunshine to wait. You had to sign for the pool towels - not sure why anyone would consider taking them as they were very very old and very frayed.
The pool has a nice view of the Pantheon.
The room had a lot of wardrobe space but when showering before dinner we found there was no shampoo or body wash in the containers ( nailed to the wall). The towels were again threadbare and a long way from the white they should be ( shades of grey). We advised reception of the missing amenities on our way out to dinner.
On our return 4 hours later, we immediately checked the containers… still empty. A very angry call to reception resulted in an employee at our door within minutes with a bar of soap and shampoo. Afterwards, we found that housekeeping had left supplies in the room but on a corner of the sink instead of refilling the containers and we had not spotted these. The toiletries were actually of good quality and smelt nice! We called reception and apologised for our ire.
On checkout no one acknowledged or mentioned the issues we had.
Whilst waiting for our Uber on departure the toilets in reception did not have hand soap and the air dryers did not work.
Having stayed in many Melia hotels around the world this one fell short of the quality I have come to expect from the brand.

Dear LittleBritain, thank you very much for your evaluation after your stay. Due to the corona pandemic, everything is a little bit different than usual at the moment. The pandemic presents us all with a major challenge that we must learn to deal with and for which new measures must be developed regularly. The company has developed measures (Stay Safe with Meliá), which should contribute to the fact that our guests can also feel safe with us from a hygienic point of view. This includes, among other things, of course, amenities our hotel would normally offer or rooms would have prepared faster for early check in. Despite all expressed criticism, we would be pleased to welcome you again in the future and to convince you of our Service. Best regards, Maria Berisa Guest Experience Coordinator

Beautiful Melia! 4 years of Melia Grand Hermitage and never disappointed!
Although we are from Constanta and live 5 minutes walk from the neighborhood beach, every year we feel the need to relax in a mini-vacation, near the coolness of a swimming pool. And because we don't want to spend our vacation in the car, for 4 years by now, after we traveled Bulgaria long and wide, we stopped 2 hours away from Constanta, in the Golden Sands resort, at Melia, a hotel / resort that incorporates all the facilities and utilities necessary for a family with children, in order to have a successful and relaxing holiday.
Why did we choose it?? Because: it is very clean, both the rooms and the entire resort, it has a park with beautiful vegetation, the food is ok, varied, it has a great respect for the tourist, you have access to the outdoor pools, indoor pool, gym, spa, medical + dental office.
For adults, the animators organize all kinds of activities specific to such resorts (yoga, shooting, water gymnastics, etc.).
For children, there are age-appropriate pools, slides, adventure park, mini disco in the evening, club of various activities (drawing, painting, modeling) during the day by the pool.
In the context of the pandemic: the food is served by the staff, behind the plexiglass, for the products still in self-service regime, disposable gloves are used. There are disinfectants at each entrance, both in the hotel on the floors and in the restaurant. The staff wears masks without question, the tourists not really ... or not at all. There can be no question of distance.

Great holidays everyone!

The rooms are small & have an awkward layout. There’s a lot of pine, but also lots of lighting and lots of mirrors so it’s not overly dull.
There was No kettle or Iron but these can be gotten on request, subject to availability
In turn this meant No tea or coffee facilities , when you get a kettle it comes with 2 small cups and you need your own tea/coffee/milk.

They don’t offer water complimentary in the room, we did receive a bowl of complimentary fruit on arrival and it was really fresh.
The fridge is a nice size for buying a few things & cold.
Our Room was clean, the carpet was clean & the bed also clean.
The bed is Very small, not at all luxurious or comfy but it was ok.
The pillows were Hard & lumpy.

There’s a frosted Glass bathroom door with a big gap right around, so there’s no privacy.

There weren’t any complimentary products in the bathroom like shower cap, cotton buds etc
There was shower gel, shampoo conditioner and thats it, all Rituals brand.

The rooms Have black out curtains, when the window is open its extremely noisy of course but once closed the windows are pretty much soundproof.

The air conditioning is NON EXISTENT and needs upgrading. It did not work at all and for February our room was absolutely roasting! We went to reception and they said it is centrally managed and said it would not blow out cold air because it is a winter month. The weather was 18 degrees on average each day, too warm to not have air con.
We kept the blackout curtains pulled during the day & the window open for air to come in. The room was still like a sauna every day.

The staff were nice, we didn’t need them much but when we did they were very accommodating.
The cleaner did a great job.
One thing I was annoyed by, was housekeeping knocking to check the minibar. They asked to come in to check it while we were there, I felt it would be rude to say no so I let them in, but the thing is my husband was using the bathroom and I was resting. I felt like this could have been done another time, while we were out of the room.
On average this room is €85 per night, so I personally wouldn’t expect much better for the price in its location. The location is great, it’s almost a straight walk for 20 mins to Montseraki square.
A few bits nearby like a bazaar and a bet makers, pharmacy, bakery etc but for restaurants and bars you need to walk 15-20 mins.
The food in the restaurant wasn’t great, and it was not cheap for Greece.
The rooftop restaurant & bar were closed until the end of April, this seemed silly as other hotels with rooftop bars were open for business.
We stayed here for 2 weeks so we needed a budget hotel, but we also stayed at the Athens Capital hotel which I’d highly recommend over this one, it is pure luxury right beside the grand Bretagne & St George hotel, so in a nice upmarket location.
I’m used to luxury so Overall I would only rate this hotel 4/10*

Dear LittleLittle19, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your recent stay at Melia Athens. We appreciate your nice comments about our personnel. We pride ourselves on our customer-oriented service, and it's great to know that our efforts were recognized. We're also glad to hear that you enjoyed the location of the hotel as well as you found your room to be clean! We take hygiene and cleanliness very seriously, and it's great to know that we met your expectations in this regard. It is with regret that you did not enjoyed the room size and layout. However, you could always share your feedback with us during your stay, as we would have the opportunity to take any actions for a more preferred room. Regarding the rituals, allow me to note that based on our policy of respect for the environment, we reduce the use of plastic and try to generate as little waste as possible, thus, personal grooming sets are provided only upon your own request. We will definitely take your feedback into consideration regarding a kettle in the room and we will certainly review our air conditioning system and our restaurant and room offerings to ensure that we provide a better experience for all our guests in the future. Thank you for choosing Melia Athens, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future. Warm Regards, Maria Berisa Guest Experience Coordinator

We enjoyed a four night stay in Athens in late October.
We booked for 3 people and got an executive suite which was very spacious and comfortable. The room is ideal for families with children/ teens as there is one large king size bed and a double sofa bed. Each room can be closed off and has it’s own TV or can be opened up to provide a more open plan feel.

We felt the room was great for our needs.

The bathroom had an amazing jacuzzi bath that was very relaxing. The shower was also spacious.
Bathrobes we’re provided which was nice for coming down from the pool.

The rooftop bar is a lovely space to spend time, we had some lovely poolside snacks and drinks and swam everyday and used the jacuzzi. It was not very busy in October but near in mind it was quite a ‘fresh’ temperature as not heated. The views of the acropolis and sunsets are great !

The steam room and sauna was also good. The gym looked small but looked well equipped and was every time we saw it, we didn’t use it so can’t comment on the equipment.

We didn’t chose to have breakfast as there were so many options nearby for breakfast. We had a lovely traditional Greek breakfast nearby in a side street with tahini, Cretan cheese and ham and honey with Greek yoghurt and coffee very nearby for 7 euros. We had a mother brunch another day nearby , there are plenty of options.

The immediate vicinity of the hotel looks a bit run down but you only need to walk a few minutes only and it is so well placed.
Even though it was near the metro , we walked everywhere we visited and only used a taxi for the airport transfer which was 45 euros.

Within walking distance is Monastiraki and Plaka - both lovely by day and night especially. The cafe culture is amazing and after visiting the acropolis we also visited a district called Anafiotika - which had some lovely restaurants!

A must is the restaurants on the Plaka steps - beautifully decorated with fairy lights and a great atmosphere with traditional Greek dancing.

All in all , we loved our stay in the Melia and would love to return one day.

We were also allowed to have a late check in as there was no one checking into our room immediately. The last day they kept our luggage and we were still able to use the pool and sauna and showers which was a bonus as we had a late flight back.

Thank Melia for a lovely stay !

After I read the great reviews I thought this was going to be wow , big mistake , was allowed to check in early , that was good , room was a standard room did not notice anything right away as we went sight seeing- came back much later no kettle , that costs - 3 euros plus service charge of 3 euros “what” this is a four star hotel , asked just for the kettle which is free of charge , but as they forgot , received it much later with tea for nothing . The bed was so small for us my husband is over 6.5 ft, that with the bad double glazing , you hear everything from outside , we got no sleep the first night . We moved rooms for the next night.
Tiny TV. Hard towels . Shower leaks in both rooms , no free water in rooms
No not 4 star , 3 at best
Now for the “great “ breakfast, not, please look at the pictures .
As someone on a diet , my choice was limited , on both mornings , sorry it’s 2020, where is the diet section . Oh sorry 0./. Milk is available , and being in Greece I was looking forward to Greek food not bacon and eggs
I will not be back
Right now in another part of Athens in a great hotel .

Dear dannytamimaya, Thank you for posting your feedback on Trip Advisor following a recent stay with us at Melia Athens. While I am glad that you appreciated the early check in offered, I am sorry to read that we did not leave you with a better impression, on both the room and services experience. I am sad for the cons encountered during your stay. While some of them are personal opinions or misunderstandings. Please note that tea and coffee facilities are offered to specific room types and therefore for the rest room types, are provided upon the request of guests with charge, while kettles are provided upon request for free. Furthermore, our hotel is in the heart of the city of Athens, all our rooms are triple soundproofed in order to eliminate the noise. Moreover, our F&B Team daily takes care of our Breakfast Buffet in order to offer to our guests healthy and balanced choices. Please feel free to contact me directly when next in Athens and I would be delighted to ensure you receive a much better overall service experience. It's an old, outdated hotel. Raggedy towels that smelt moldy, excruciatingly slow wifi, uncomfortable dirty bed, tiny room (though we got the supreme room), smelly bathroom, and an ancient thermostat. The carpet has stains everywhere.

If you need an iron & ironing board, you need to call. If you need a kettle, you need to call. There's not a lot of amenities in room. No free water. Need to pay for everything.

The layout of room is awkward. Once we open the door, the desk is right in front of you. We had to cram to the side to close door. If the front door is open, it blocks access to the bed. If the closet door is open, it blocks the bathroom door. If the bathroom door is open, it blocks the front door. Just make sure all the doors are closed so you can move around in room.

The nightstands are two different shapes and sizes. It seems like they went to the flea market and bought mismatch furniture.

No view. We opened the curtains to see what's outside and saw and old, abandoned building that's falling apart. Immediately, we closed the curtains and kept them shut.

The ladies, who delivered the iron and kettle to us, weren't in uniform so we couldn't discern if they were hotel staff or guest. No smile nor greeting... Just handed it over and left. We didn't even have chance to give them a tip.

We stayed in a guestroom with a Queen bed for 4 nights while we were in Athens for our honeymoon. The hotel is about 10 stories with a pool and restuarant on the roof. Its location in the center of Athens is not a very nice spot, but is conveniently located at the intersection of two main roads which make for very easy 15-30 minute walks to great spots in Athens, including the Acropolis, Plaka, and Psyrri districts.
The room is nice, if a little business-feeling, and the service is good. I would recommend the Melia Athens for anyone staying in Athens for the first time who wants a nice place to stay which is walking distance from the things to do in Athens, and does not want to deal with the downsides of booking an AirBnB or hostel.

This hotel firmly met my expectations and is a good choice for a stay in Athens, particularly if you're overwhelmed by all the options.

The hotel is dated, but the pictures make this clear, so you know what you're getting! We had a Supreme Room and even this wasn't that big, though it was comfortable and had a nice bathroom that included a jacuzzi bath. Toiletries were Ritual.

Staff were mostly great, especially on reception at helping us find restaurants (go to Atitamos - it's so good!).

The best feature of the hotel is the rooftop pool, which gets lots of sun and has a staffed bar for both drinks and food. Get there when it opens at 11am to get a lounger, or you might have to linger at a table until one is free later in the day.

The area is so-so; there's enough places to grab coffee and pick up food, but it's not got the buzz or choice of Monastiriki. I would pick a hotel somewhere more happening in future.
