At the end of our Crete trip wr stay here 2 days in Iraklion.
The Megaron is very centrally located between the harbour and the city centre and even offers free parking.
The rooms were practically furnished but quite small, ideal for a weekend or day visit, but certainly nothing for longer stays of a week or more. The hotel offers a gym, which we did not use, and a quite small pool on the roof terrace, which is however again small and can accommodate a maximum of 6 or 7 couples. But for us who were sowiso most of the time and wanted to lie down in the sun for a maximum of 1/2 hour - perfectly clear, it is a city hotel, not a beach hotel to bathe in - that is perfectly sufficient.
What was great, however, was the breakfast buffet, which offered an enormous number of cakes and cakes in addition to all the "wineries" of Greek breakfast cuisine
A small warning, but it should affect all city hotels in Traklion: The departure lane from Iraklion airport passes right by the hotel. However, as soon as you close the windows, there is little to hear about it

The hotel is very comfortable and clean. They are rightly proud of their extensive breakfast. Whenever I had contact with the staff they were always very polite and helpful irrespective of whether it was for breakfast service or ordering a taxi.
The location is both convenient for coming from the airport of walking into town or the harbour. The rooms were serviced every day and there was always mineral water in the refrigerator. I am of the opinion that given the quality of the hotel and service, the cost represents very good value for money.

At the last minute we decided to spend one night in Heraklion so we could visit the historical site of Knossos. An agent booked the room for us and we weren't expecting much. It is a beautiful building and is decorated elegantly along classical lines. On arrival we were greeted warmly and the reception staff could not have been more friendly or professional. We were happily surprised by the room which was a VIP sea view room with views across to the harbor and the Venetian fortress. It was spacious and spotless and we were supplied with bottled water which is a rarity in Greece. We ate in the hotel dining room and really enjoyed the meal. My wife chose the Asian inspired pork belly and I had the lamb shank and both were exceptional. It was very enjoyable fine dining experience different from the usual Taverna type eateries we had become used to during our travels. The breakfast buffet the following morning was sensational. A traditional spread of Greek/Cretan foods and I really had trouble choosing what to put on my plate. The waiter actually came over later with a small plate that had a couple of extra things she told me I just had to try. I don't think I have ever stayed at a hotel where every member of staff was as genuinely friendly and attentive. There were no forced smiles here just nice people and I really can't fault the place. It's a great hotel and I highly recommend it.

A fantastic hotel in a lovely pace overlooking the historic bay in Heraklion, extra large beds and fantastic chambermaids that checked the room several times a day , fresh bedding and towels ! There’s a pool on the fifth floor a gym with excellent machines and a sauna /hot tub / steam room ( you have to book and pay extra for this ) The restaurant for evening meals has a good choice but limited but the breakfast has absolutely everything anyone could want food wise and the freshly squeezed orange juice was a lovely start nothing was too much trouble for the ladies who work in there ! We stayed a week and found it a fantastic base for Knossos, there is a bus if you wish that does a tour and you can hop on or off, the museum is a couple of hundred yards from the hotel and fantastically laid out with the exhibits in order of age , we also visited phaistos and hagia triada , the ancient harbour fort is also well worth a visit and retuning to a lovely hotel made for a wonderful stay as well . We were within five minutes walk from shops and restaurants so very handy ! The only downside was as it’s on the flight path the planes were frequently flying over but the rooms are incredibly soundproof so wasn’t really a problem! Our flight home meant we didn’t leave till 7pm , checkout was 12 but we had access to a really lovely peaceful lounge area and were given half an hour in the spa area to shower and freshen up a much needed exercise lol , would recommend this for anyone wishing a relaxing lovely place to stay when visiting Heraklion .

The hotel is very well located opposite the sea, it has free parking.
The room is spacious, the bedding comfortable, the soundproofing is correct, you can hear the planes a little because Heraklion airport is not far from the city. The breakfast is superb. Excellent value for money. We recommend this hotel.

We had a lovely stay at GDM Megaron, in this historic, beautiful hotel in a great location across from the Harbor and fortress AND the boat terminal for ferries. It is walking distance to restaurants, sights, and shops in old town Heraklion. Our room was clean, modern, and comfortable with a great bed, space, and amenities, including a side balcony toward the harbor. After touring we enjoyed the small pool and an afternoon drink on the rooftop, which was beautiful. Their staff are welcoming, helpful, and friendly. The breakfast (included in room price) had wonderful options and local pastries. As we were there on the weekend, the loud speaker events on the harbor lasted until 10p.m., but for the hotel location, quality, and five-ten minute walk to restaurants and ferry in the harbor, we had an excellent stay. Recommended!

Five-star hotel close to and right over the port of Heraklion, sea views are also possible.
Everything in the hotel is very well maintained and the staff is super friendly and personable.
The highlight of this level of service is certainly the breakfast, which is very varied and complete and someone came to the table several times to ask if everything was to your liking.
The roof top swimming pool was also great, although a bit too small, but the bar on site makes up for this.
The proximity to the center and museums is also a great asset, as is the private parking.
Fantastic hotel!

Very comfortable hotel and perfect welcome: convenient for getting around the city and surrounding areas.
The staff were attentive and very efficient: at reception, in the breakfast room, on the roof top and in the restaurant. The hotel has a view of the port and the Venetian fortress and is really not far from the city center on foot: the archaeological museum is very close (6-7 minutes) as well as a host of small, tasty restaurants. Top-notch air conditioning (bedroom, breakfast room and common areas). Very large and very comfortable bed. Very practical bathroom and great water pressure. The deckchairs near the pool were very uncrowded between 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. (I had the pool almost to myself at the beginning of August during this time slot), a little more crowded after 4:30 p.m. but it was never crowded. I needed to print a car rental contract of several pages and after sending them the document to their email, the reception called me only 5 minutes later to tell me it was done and ask me if I wanted someone to bring it to me. The breakfast was fabulous: a huge choice (sweet & savory) with local specialties and well stocked whatever time we came down. The terrace restaurant offers refined and hearty dishes.
I have read some negative comments about the surrounding noise but all the hotels in Heraklion are more or less on the route of the planes leaving for the continent, so I do not find them justified: someone who wants absolute calm does not should not stay in this city, whatever the hotel.
We will definitely come back.

We stayed two nights and could have used a couple of more days just enjoying the hotel and the city. The service and hospitality was outstanding; everyone I came in contact with was genuinely friendly and took great pride in their jobs. We booked an Executive Sea View room with a balcony in which no detail was overlooked, from the super-comfortable bed and linens to the extra niceties which seem to be lacking nowadays even in upscale hotels.(turrn-down service, chocolates and welcome cookies, etc) Even the hand sanitizers were in crystal bottles and placed at various checkpoints throughout the hotel!
The breakfast buffet offerings were superb, I would have loved to sample more of the Greek sweets. My only regret was that it was too windy the day I wanted to use the pool but it was a lovely view at least.
I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Heraklion and if you are arriving by ferry it is literally across the street; the bus to Knossos is also next door so the convenience can't be beat.

This is an old classic style hotel with spacious rooms with awesome views of the port and the sea. The breakfast buffet was elaborate and delicious. This hotel has a fantastic location with the centre of the old town, and its cobbled streets, local restaurants and souvenir shops, all within a short walking distance. A great hotel to stay in!

We took a cab because our ferry was delayed for several hours and it was quite dark out by the time we arrived. After our very quick cab ride, though, we realized we could have easily wheeled our luggage there from the port.
