We stayed at Casa Amaryllis apartment, part of Casa Vitae Villas. What a beautiful, spacious & so well laid out place. Very spacious outdoor space with a lovely private pool. It has everything you need for a relaxing holiday. Both Athina, who looked after our booking & met us at the door, & Tina, who cleaned & looked after the apartment, were excellent and very attentive during our stay. Situated in one of the many little streets, although very quiet at night, it was only 30 seconds walk from the apartment to the busy centre of Rethymno. When we go back to Crete, I wouldn’t consider staying anywhere else. So we’ll placed in Rethymno & for the rest of the Island. 8 minutes walk from the bus station. I cannot rate the apartment highly enough.
This is the first, and absolutely the best of the places we stayed at during our Greece trip. One comes in a close, very close second. First, I started planning this trip in 2019 for 2020 travel. I had my credit union transfer the funds. Then covid hit and the trip was cancelled. I asked Athina to hold onto my payment as I was sure it would not be long before we would make the trip. Well, finally May 2020 we arrived. The property started as a villa that is now three smaller villas. Each one has its own entry gate, their own pool, their own entrance. Very private. And yet, for as private as the villa is, one can walk out the gate and you are amongst the narrow streets and bustle of Old Town Rethymno. Best location ever! Just across and down a few doors is a small drinks cafe. That is where I would go each morning for fresh squeezed orange juice and bring back to enjoy on my patio. The streets can be a maze, but once you get your bearings it actually becomes somewhat intuitive. But, back to the villa. It is two bedrooms, two baths. The size of a good sized apartment, condo, or small house. I could live here (except, I would need more storage). Although we did not do a lot of cooking, the kitchen worked great for what we did have. You could fix a pretty substantial meal there. The only issue is the windows open out onto the villa downstairs, so your view is of their patio and pool area. We tried to keep those windows closed to offer our neighbors their privacy. The bedrooms were very comfortable, and the bathrooms were spacious and clean. Our villa was cleaned halfway through our stay by the lovely young lady who came every morning to clean the pool and patio. The whole villa is spacious and we were able to spread out. Not once did we feel cramped. It was also so very comfortable, truly felt at home, away from home. At first I wasn't sure how to use the washer, but I pulled up a You Tube video that showed me how. I was being impatient and expected it to start immediately upon pressing start. It does take a little bit. But, between the washer and the drying rack, we were set with clean clothes! Over the time of planning I have been in touch with Athina. She has been an absolute delight to work with. She is friendly and helpful. It was a pleasure to finally meet her face to face. Casa Vitae is within walking distance of everything in Old Town Rethymno, and most of Rethymno. Very convenient to everything, including grocery shopping. I rented a car; which one must do on Crete (be sure to read pointers about driving on Crete; at first it sounds daunting, but once behind the wheel it is quite easy). Because this is Old Town you cannot drive in town. There is a public parking lot maybe five-ten minutes away, depending on if you are walking or transporting luggage. However, when I arrived a market was going on and parking was near non existent. I drove around and around for probably an hour before I found a spot close to the Fortezza. I checked in, then later when the market was finished I moved the car and was able to get my luggage in. Made me consider each day if I really wanted to go out somewhere, but one is there to tour the area, so took the chance. Oh, and you will see the most amazing parking jobs! All in all, I would stay here over and over again should my travels bring me back to Crete. I truly loved Casa Vitae, and although our place in Santorini comes close, this one felt comfortable and at home.…
Loved it. Perfect place and Anthina is the perfect host. Located right in the old town with everything you'd want nearby. The prepare courtyard and private pool really made our stay extra special. Would recommend
My husband and I stayed for 9 nights during our wedding week in Crete. The villa and staff were nothing short of excellent. The location is perfect. Right in the heart of old town within walking distance of shops, restaurants and the Beach. The villa was spacious, clean with excellent facilities and a stunning pool/patio area. Tina, the cleaner, kept the pool and villa exceptionally clean throughout our stay and was always happy to help. Athina - the villa manager - was wonderful. On my wedding morning whilst getting ready in the villa, she brought flowers to decorate the balcony and gate. Once we returned to the villa on our wedding night there were more flowers and a bottle of wine - a very special touch. To summarise, the villa is of excellent value and everything we needed & more. We cannot wait to return next year!…
We had the most amazing time staying at the villas for a family wedding. Athina the host was so helpful and went the extra mile to provide complimentary traditional wedding pastries for the bride and groom. The location is very central and still private and pretty quiet. The beach is just 15 mins walk where sun loungers are around 7 euro a pair. We stayed in the ground floor villa which was very modern and clean, we had friends and family staying in the villas above which were all to the same standard. Each has a small pool but a perfect size for a cool down. My only comments would be there was no hanging space in our villa (we used curtain rails) and the safe can be easily removed out of the wardrobe. Overall it was a great stay and we would return for sure!
We had the most amazing time staying at the Casa Vitae Villas for our wedding. We had booked out all 3 villas for some of the wedding party which was perfect for getting ready on the morning but also private enough for each party staying in the villa throughout the week. Athina (general manager) was amazing in answering any questions and even provided us with her number for anything we may need throughout the week. The staff went to the effort of decorating the outside of the villa on the wedding morning with flowers and provided us with traditional cretan pastries, chocolates and a bottle of bubbly for the morning- such a special touch! Every villa had its own pool, again all very private and all the amenities you could need- fridge/ freezer, washing machine, towels, iron/ironing board. Villa Amaryllis did have one wardrobe for hanging space and the safe was secured into the wall. Location is perfect with everything you will need on your doorstep (shops/ restaurants/ bars) but still quiet. Beach approx 10-15 minutes walk away. The Villas are in a pedestrianised area so you get dropped off at a central bus point and have to walk to find the villas but only 2 minutes with google maps- no problems finding! Thank you all for an amazing stay!…
A perfect stay. Brilliant location! All three beautiful. Three villas next door to each other but very private! We hired all three for the wedding. Large rooms, beautiful decor, everything you could need Inc dishwasher and washing machine. Hairdryer, iron, shower gels shampp and powel tools. Very clean. Covid aware and felt safe. Two things to note which are important. 1. There is no hanging space for dresses.. We fortunately had brought clothes hangers and had to use curtain rails. 2. The safe is not safe, it can be picked up and carried out. However the villa feel safe with locked door and locked street gate. You will have an amazing stay here, lovely owners and cleaners too. Feel luxurious but comfy too.
Fantastic stay at Casa Vitae. Amazingly relaxed and private apartment in the stunning old town of Rethymno. Athina was great all the way through answering emails very quickly regarding Covid issues etc and gave us a very warm welcome on arrival and was on hand if we needed her all throughout our stay. The apartment was immaculate and kept that way throughout our 2 week stay by a very nice lady who worked very hard to keep things perfect and within Covid guidelines. The setting couldn’t have been better in the middle of old town with restaurants around every corner and a nice 15 minute walk to the beach. Fantastic stay by all the family including two teenagers who said they wouldn’t have stayed anywhere else. Highly recommended
The apartment is as it looks on the pictures but we we found that the kitchen needed to be cleaned more thoroughly... pots were dirty and we even found mould in the filter of the coffee maker... We just washed the pots again and didn’t use the coffee machine... a bit disappointing when you see how nice is everything else. Location is perfect in the middle of old town and it has everything around at walking distance.
We loved the location of this hotel in the old town. We enjoyed getting slightly lost as we wandered around and there were a number of very good restaurants in the vicinity. We discovered a lovely bakery nearby that had the most yummy of pastries and an amusing window display of pastry animals. The beach was a nice 20 minute walk. It appeared that many of the beach hotels and apartments were closed for the season but most of the restaurants nearer the marina were open and appeared to be very busy. Our junior suite was located on the second floor off the courtyard. The room was spacious and had a separate small seating area. Renovating an old space is always a balancing act between keeping the charm and providing practical comforts. The seating area was a bit cramped and the couch, while fine for sitting, was a bit too hard to relax on. The bedroom and bathroom were spacious and the bed was a good size. There was a closet in the sitting area but no dressers. One small negative in our room was the shower which was located in the narrow end of the jacuzzi tub and was a bit awkward to use. Also, the mechanism to switch from the wand to the overhead shower was hard to turn. There was a small balcony area with a lovely view over the courtyard and the neighbour's flower and fruit tree filled garden. The neighbour gifted us some pomegranates one day - so yummy! A nice breakfast was provided in the courtyard. There was a small buffet with very good yogurt, some fruit and cereals. Plates of bread, meats and cheeses were served to each table along with fresh orange juice. Egg dishes could also be ordered. We enjoyed the breakfast, however, the coffee was not hot enough for our taste. The staff are lovely, always friendly and helpful and we very much enjoyed our stay.…
