Small hotel in a fantastic location in the old city of stockholm. Great breakfast included . Much more atmosphere than the large chain hotels. Staff very helpful. Room was comfortable especially the beds, quaint furnishing but modern bathroom (small, but very clean and well mantained). Recommend to stay on the upper floors . Great value , highly recommend.

We stayed here on a brief trip (3days) to Stockholm primarily to go to the opera. Nevertheless, we also devoted the days to sightseeing, my friends having not been to Stockholm before and it being my first return visit since 1970. The hotel could not be better situated, right in the ancient heart of the city and but a short...

Husband & I spent 3 nights pre cruise summer of 2008. Great location in the old section of town Gamla Stan. Many nearby restaurants and shops. Relatively easy access to subway. Pleasant old style hotel with understated style. Room not huge but large for by European standards - newly renovated bathroom. Were at back of hotel so only rooftop view...

This is a really well situated hotel in the old town and within walking distance of most things we wanted to see. The staff were pleasant and the breakfast was great. Our only quibble was about clothes storage - I had come from a conference so had two different types of clothes with me and, as it was cold, a...

Highly recommended! Very charming hotel. Nicely decorated, the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in, amazing breakfast (lots to choose from if you are health concious!), nice staff, clean rooms, location is great. Really nothing to complain about. Would definitely stay here again!

We have stayed at the Nordic Light Hotel on previous stays in Stockholm but this time we decided to stay in a different part of town. Probably a good decision with the amount of building work around the two Nordic Hotels! The Rica Gamla Stan is an excellent hotel, very reasonably priced, great location, plus there are some great restaurants...

Location: In the old town Gamla Stan area. Lovely lanes and winding small streets. Very medieval. Right around the corner to bus and train stations. Two blocks away to the hop on hop off ferry boat to go to rest of Stockholm and out islands. Short walk to City Hall. Lots of restaurnts. Ate at tapas bar around the corner...

We wanted a central hotel to stay at for 2 nights before cruising and this hotel fit the bill. Although the day clerk was a bit aloof he still did his job well. We got great recommendations for restaurants; the room was what we'd expected in Sweden; the breakfast was extensive and delicious.

Our initial impressions of the hotel were good, fabulous location on the edge of the old town Gamla Stad. The reception area with adjoining lounge were smart in an understated way and staff were friendly. However, we were really surprised to be shown down to the 'cellar suite', which comprised about four interlinked rooms, including a sitting area, kitchenette and...

Staying in Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen

Neighbourhood Profile
Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting: take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest) alleys, which will make you feel like you’ve travelled back in time. This neighborhood offers a great combination of historical buildings and traditional Swedish restaurants.
