The location of this hotel is absolutely perfect! Just walk out the door and you're in old town. Parking a car nearby is (if you're lucky enough to find a lot) d*mn expensive, for the above reason. I was lucky enough to get a good price on this hotel, but the room was so so. A bit dark and felt...

I'd agree with the previous message. The hotel was okay, but no more than that. Location is very good, and we had a room facing the street on the third floor, so no street noise. We asked for a double room, but got a room with two twin beds shoved next to each other. Personally, I hate this, especially when...

Stayed for one night at this hotel after having spent two nights at Hotel Rival. It was a huge disappointment after Hotel Rival, which was perfect! The Rica Hotel Gamla Stan isn't bad...good location, older/charming decor, good breakfast, but it isn't great either. The bathroom was kind of gross...I think if they renovated/upgraded the bathrooms and took out the tacky...

After reading various reviews on this website of hotels in Gamla Stan, we decided to book at the Rica and were glad we did. It is in a perfect location in Gamla Stan - in the Old Town, but on a quieter street. While part of a chain, it is more like a boutique hotel and has more ambience than...

We couldn't have chosen a better hotel in Stockholm. The price was right for this expensive city. The room was more like a suite, overlooking the beautiful rooftops. Request a room on the top floor so that you don't hear street noise. The breakfast is very big, all of the traditional Swedish specialties, including Swedish pancakes. But what makes the...

This small but charming hotel is situated in a perfect location, right in the enchanting old town of Stockholm and close to many attractions and restaurants. However, the facilities do not offer good value for money: the room was small (but beautiful and comfortable though) and so was the bathroom. There was no airco, and although it might sound like...

After reading other reviews, I was prepared for a very small room, but got a very pleasant surprise. We reserved a triple because we were traveling with our adult daughter. Room 403 (if I remember correctly) was huge. It was actually a double, but a roll-away bed was brought in. An alcove had room for the two twin beds which...

I staid here on two occassions on business trips. First of all location is great, in downtime picturesque "Gamla Stan" (Old Town) in Stockholm. You are basically 15-20 minutes on foot to any place in central Stockholm. Rooms are nice, not super-large but pleasant, clean and nicely furnished. Not much of a view in those rooms I have had (facing...

I stayed at the Rica Hotel 2 weeks ago. I booked through Destination Stockholm and together with the good price I also got the Stockholm A La Carte card, which allows free use of transport within Stockholm and access to some sights. I got the Arlanda Express (380 SEK which is about £28 return) into Central Station from the airport...

We highly recommend the Rica Gamla Stan. The two rooms we stayed in were more than large enough for the two of us and our two year old daughter. The staff was polite and helpful with our tourist inquiries. And they really helped out when a train problem forced us to stay an extra night, which we didn't really mind...

Staying in Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen

Neighbourhood Profile
Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting: take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest) alleys, which will make you feel like you’ve travelled back in time. This neighborhood offers a great combination of historical buildings and traditional Swedish restaurants.
