This hotel has a fantastic location on in old town right on the water. The lobby and restaurant have a trendy boutique hotel feel to them. Staff was friendly, professional, and helpful. Some of the rooms have fantastic views. Even rooms on the side of the hotel have great views as long as one is in the top floor. The...

Ideally situated in the 'old town' and surrounded by museums, the Royal Palace, great restaurants and shops. The breakfast buffet is by far one of the most delicious we have had with loads to choose from.

This hotel has the perfect location! Part of the Old Town, right by the Palace and overlooking beautiful Skeppsholmen. The service was very good, room was clean and with a good sized bathroom. Great breakfast buffé! Bar was lively in the evening and had a great range of cocktails! Overall a great choice of hotel, albeit a little pricey.

Old hotel at a nice location. We booked an executive room for a romantic weekend. The room was unfortunately not as nice as expected. It was quite noisy. We heard the elevators going up and down all the time. The shower was in the bath and located sideways which made showering quite awkward. And there were 2 seperate beds (with...

We traveled with friends in June 2013 to take a Baltic cruise that started in Stockholm, Sweden. We chose the First Reisen hotel primarily because of location in the old town close to the harbor and sight seeing. While the hotel is very European in style (read small rooms), it is ideally located and the staff is very friendly. They...

The place of the hotel is a beautiful place, the people are friendly and very helpfull. In the morning a lot of cyclist are on the way to the work and this is sometimes very dangerous, be carefull. The beds are very good and also the bathroom is perfect. Because the hotel is in the middle of the city... it...

Had a three night stay over a weekend. The hotel is in a fantastic location, right on the see front in the old part of town. Beware if you are arriving by the fast train from the airport. It is a good 20 minute walk or an expensive taxi ride away. We had a sea view which was great, but...

The First Hotel Reisen is in an excellent location in the Old Town but it shows its age. We had a good sized room with a balcony, the view from which was mostly roof tops with a narrow glimpse of the waterfront. There was no safe in the room which is something that you expect in an international hotel. We...

I requested a room with lot's of light on their highest floor, well in advance, and was given a room on the first floor, across from the elevator. Trash collectors breaking bottles woke me in the wee hours, then at 8, an idiot with a weed wackier starts up (there was one weed in the whole alley), for an hour,...

This hotel might be worth the price you pay on location alone, but our room and bathroom looked like they had not been re-decorated for a long time. They both urgently needed modernising. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. We would not recommend this hotel if the main purpose of the trip was to have a romantic weekend away.

Staying in Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen

Neighbourhood Profile
Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting: take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest) alleys, which will make you feel like you’ve travelled back in time. This neighborhood offers a great combination of historical buildings and traditional Swedish restaurants.
