My wife and I visited the Wilfrid the third week of September. We were comforted by the nicest weather of the year and one of the most serein and quietest place on Earth. With both the weather and the isolation, we thought we were in heaven... But this was before we met Nancy and Frank - we were now in PARADISE. The house is charming - grandiose by its simplicity and its rustic warmth. The room was comfortable and impeccably clean. And I am lacking words to describe the original and festive breakfasts. The outside setting with the chicken provided us with a very enjoyable setting for our dinners. All the above, combined with the warm and genuine welcome from our hosts Nancy and Frank, made our 3 nights at the Wilfrid something we will remember. Merci de votre hostitalité - en espérant que vous avez apprécié le Nikka.…
As first time guests, you often do not know what to expect and as my fiancé and I pulled in we were greeted immediately and all my worries vanished. Our stay in PEC area was amazing, with top end accommodations reminiscent of our stays in Europe. The breakfast --which we had been told was amazing--exceeded our expectations and was served with such warmth by Nancy ---and Chef Frank was amazing. Highly recommend for anyone visiting the area.
We luckily came upon this property on a last-minute google search and was happy to book on someones cancellation. Once booked, a welcome package email was sent to us including a little questionnaire used to personalize our stay and a list of recommendations to visit while in PEC. Enough time to prepare our itinerary. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Nancy and her resident chickens who happily roam freely on the property. A tour of the property just highlighted the type of restful 2 night escape that we were looking for. A rustic barn with table, chairs and lighting to enjoy a platter of prepared oysters alongside our own prepared charcuterie board and glass of wine while you look out into the fields, a newly built sauna and cooling bath/shower completely private at night, a warm fire pit lit every night, and an old, well-loved farmhouse filled with a blend of new and antique pieces. Charming. Our room was clean and nicely furnished with all the amenities Little special surprises included Bluetooth bedside speakers and a little Polaroid camera that you are encouraged to borrow during your travels in the county. Breakfasts prepared by chef Frank and Nancy were amazing! Let me just clarify... this is not a bed and breakfast...it is a fine dining restaurant that you can sleep at!!! Dont expect bacon and eggs! Expect multiple courses of internationally inspired foods to tickle the taste buds! There is an onsite boutique shop with homemade and locally sourced products. Many of these were showcased in their breakfast preps to try. Overall wonderful stay with wonderful people! Beautiful hospitality!…
We recently stayed at the Wilfrid in the two-bedroom suite. My goal is to provide an objective review that highlights the pros and cons of staying here. Pros: -Outstanding breakfast served both days. An abundance of delicious fresh food. -Interior of home very clean, rooms, kitchen, and common space. -Free roaming chickens are a cute touch. Cons: -No air conditioning in second bedroom, only a small portable AC unit in the other room which was not enough to cool the suite especially in the summer. The rooms were uncomfortably hot, especially when you are paying over $1200 to stay in basically a sauna. The second bedroom had two small portable fans, which when turned on sounded like you were sleeping next to an airplane. -Screens in the bathroom and second bedroom were torn, allowing for insects to enter the room. I woke up to a cricket on my bedside table one morning. Since there was no fans or AC in the bathroom, it was a breeding ground for insects who are attracted to moisturize. Also, the lack of ventilation made it extremely hot and uncomfortable. Towels smelled of mildew. -Seating around the fire pit is covered in dirty burlap sack and faces the road which really does not lend itself to a peaceful experience. -Seating in the barn needs some love. I understand it is an old barn and that it can be dusty and so forth. However, if guests are interested in spending time around the table, the owners should offer to clean and wipe down the chairs, table and hose the floor from chicken feces before use. Instead we were directed to use a cloth located in the barn to wipe the area ourselves. It would be a nice touch to give the owners a 30 minute or so heads up so they can clean and prepare the area. -Do not waste your money on the sauna experience, especially if you are visiting in the summer. Just book the room we stayed in and you will get the sauna experience for free (no AC in room). The change room and the sauna looked clean, the cold-water pool was less than desirable with critters floating around. Also, if you book the experience ahead of time, it will not be refundable. If you are interested, just book and pay once you are staying there. -Ahead of your stay, they send you a survey to fill out which is extensive. It’s fun and cheeky, however in the end it was a waste of time because none of the asks/information was taken into account. Just your breakfast time slot was noted. -There is an onsite barn gym, which costs $10/pp, I don’t understand why you have to pay to use a dusty old barn that has a couple of yoga mats and a boxing bag. Just included in the price of the room. -Hospitality, basically non-existent from the owners Frank and Nancy. When we arrived, Nancy didn’t even say hello, we had to go out of our way to greet her. To be honest, it was just strange given that they are in this industry. Good to know: -We used The Taxi Guy for transportation services, they are amazing so kind and punctual. To give you an idea of what we paid: -one way trip to Picton $25 -one way trip to Bloomfield $45 In summary, save your money this place is overpriced for what it is. The photos are misleading, and I just personally believe that it is unacceptable to stay here for over $1200 and not have AC in the middle of a heat wave.…
The stellar culinary experience at breakfast was rivalled only by the unparalleled service and warmth of hosts Frank & Nancy. A must visit if you’re looking to relax in the country side, experience elevated food and enjoy short drives to neighbouring vineyards.
