A Prince Edward County B&B gem- the pastoral passion project of owners Nancy and Frank with a penchant for excellence in hosting… comfortable, quiet, convivial, bucolic- an antidote for all things busy city. … and then there’s the breakfast! Five senses are not enough to describe their food artistry, fresh and local, every bite a memory maker. Did I mention it takes two hours?

My wife and I had spent two nights at this upmarket bed and breakfast five years ago and always wanted to come back. We finally managed to do so this past weekend and it was a lovely stay. We were once again in the two-room suite which allowed us to spread out. This B and B really is out in the country side (you will ideally need a car) and for me it was blissful to wake up at 2 am and hear absolutely nothing. The breakfasts are large (often running to five or more different elements) and tremendously imaginative, involving local meats and fruit and vegetables and herbs. As well as being an excellent cook, Frank can also give advice on which vineyards to visit. The restaurants he and Nancy recommended were good (and sometimes better) and the local cab service was 100% reliable. There is a sauna and a fire pit to help keep you warm on late summer evenings. All in all, absolutely somewhere to spend a couple of relaxing days.

My wife and I visited the Wilfrid the third week of September. We were comforted by the nicest weather of the year and one of the most serein and quietest place on Earth. With both the weather and the isolation, we thought we were in heaven... But this was before we met Nancy and Frank - we were now in PARADISE. The house is charming - grandiose by its simplicity and its rustic warmth. The room was comfortable and impeccably clean. And I am lacking words to describe the original and festive breakfasts. The outside setting with the chicken provided us with a very enjoyable setting for our dinners. All the above, combined with the warm and genuine welcome from our hosts Nancy and Frank, made our 3 nights at the Wilfrid something we will remember. Merci de votre hostitalité - en espérant que vous avez apprécié le Nikka.

As first time guests, you often do not know what to expect and as my fiancé and I pulled in we were greeted immediately and all my worries vanished. Our stay in PEC area was amazing, with top end accommodations reminiscent of our stays in Europe. The breakfast --which we had been told was amazing--exceeded our expectations and was served with such warmth by Nancy ---and Chef Frank was amazing. Highly recommend for anyone visiting the area.

We luckily came upon this property on a last-minute google search and was happy to book on someones cancellation. Once booked, a welcome package email was sent to us including a little questionnaire used to personalize our stay and a list of recommendations to visit while in PEC. Enough time to prepare our itinerary. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Nancy and her resident chickens who happily roam freely on the property. A tour of the property just highlighted the type of restful 2 night escape that we were looking for. A rustic barn with table, chairs and lighting to enjoy a platter of prepared oysters alongside our own prepared charcuterie board and glass of wine while you look out into the fields, a newly built sauna and cooling bath/shower completely private at night, a warm fire pit lit every night, and an old, well-loved farmhouse filled with a blend of new and antique pieces. Charming. Our room was clean and nicely furnished with all the amenities Little special surprises included Bluetooth bedside speakers and a little Polaroid camera that you are encouraged to borrow during your travels in the county. Breakfasts prepared by chef Frank and Nancy were amazing! Let me just clarify... this is not a bed and breakfast...it is a fine dining restaurant that you can sleep at!!! Dont expect bacon and eggs! Expect multiple courses of internationally inspired foods to tickle the taste buds! There is an onsite boutique shop with homemade and locally sourced products. Many of these were showcased in their breakfast preps to try. Overall wonderful stay with wonderful people! Beautiful hospitality!

Thank you for taking the time to write this lengthy review and being so generous with your rating! We have to say, this is the best tagline we've ever heard about our place! We remember you saying this at breakfast and we've been chuckling about it ever since "This is not a Bed & Breakfast, this is a restaurant you sleep in!" Just love it! Loved hosting you and chatting it up, hope we'll be able to do it all again soon.

We recently stayed at the Wilfrid in the two-bedroom suite. My goal is to provide an objective review that highlights the pros and cons of staying here. Pros: -Outstanding breakfast served both days. An abundance of delicious fresh food. -Interior of home very clean, rooms, kitchen, and common space. -Free roaming chickens are a cute touch. Cons: -No air conditioning in second bedroom, only a small portable AC unit in the other room which was not enough to cool the suite especially in the summer. The rooms were uncomfortably hot, especially when you are paying over $1200 to stay in basically a sauna. The second bedroom had two small portable fans, which when turned on sounded like you were sleeping next to an airplane. -Screens in the bathroom and second bedroom were torn, allowing for insects to enter the room. I woke up to a cricket on my bedside table one morning. Since there was no fans or AC in the bathroom, it was a breeding ground for insects who are attracted to moisturize. Also, the lack of ventilation made it extremely hot and uncomfortable. Towels smelled of mildew. -Seating around the fire pit is covered in dirty burlap sack and faces the road which really does not lend itself to a peaceful experience. -Seating in the barn needs some love. I understand it is an old barn and that it can be dusty and so forth. However, if guests are interested in spending time around the table, the owners should offer to clean and wipe down the chairs, table and hose the floor from chicken feces before use. Instead we were directed to use a cloth located in the barn to wipe the area ourselves. It would be a nice touch to give the owners a 30 minute or so heads up so they can clean and prepare the area. -Do not waste your money on the sauna experience, especially if you are visiting in the summer. Just book the room we stayed in and you will get the sauna experience for free (no AC in room). The change room and the sauna looked clean, the cold-water pool was less than desirable with critters floating around. Also, if you book the experience ahead of time, it will not be refundable. If you are interested, just book and pay once you are staying there. -Ahead of your stay, they send you a survey to fill out which is extensive. It’s fun and cheeky, however in the end it was a waste of time because none of the asks/information was taken into account. Just your breakfast time slot was noted. -There is an onsite barn gym, which costs $10/pp, I don’t understand why you have to pay to use a dusty old barn that has a couple of yoga mats and a boxing bag. Just included in the price of the room. -Hospitality, basically non-existent from the owners Frank and Nancy. When we arrived, Nancy didn’t even say hello, we had to go out of our way to greet her. To be honest, it was just strange given that they are in this industry. Good to know: -We used The Taxi Guy for transportation services, they are amazing so kind and punctual. To give you an idea of what we paid: -one way trip to Picton $25 -one way trip to Bloomfield $45 In summary, save your money this place is overpriced for what it is. The photos are misleading, and I just personally believe that it is unacceptable to stay here for over $1200 and not have AC in the middle of a heat wave.

The stellar culinary experience at breakfast was rivalled only by the unparalleled service and warmth of hosts Frank & Nancy. A must visit if you’re looking to relax in the country side, experience elevated food and enjoy short drives to neighbouring vineyards.

If you’re looking for peace and quiet, great food to start the day, comfort, incredible hosts and a country feel, look no further the The Wilfrid Boutique. This was our first stay at The Wilfrid and we won’t stay anywhere else from now on! The breakfast each morning was something you’d see served at a 5 star restaurant, lots of different options, each cooked with love and presented in such an art form, you’ll hesitate to touch it. Frank & Nancy are the perfect hosts, but watch out for Franks quick and dry wit. We stayed in the green room, it was clean, aesthetically pleasing and very comfortable. The ambiance of the whole farmhouse, from the cute chickens running around to decor, will help relieve any stress you may have developed through these unusual times. No light pollution here, our first night was under an incredible star studded sky. We’ll be back soon!

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this very generous review and share your experience. We are always flattered when guests say they have found their spot in The County and will be coming back to The Wilfrid! We look forward to hosting you again and will try to keep up the quick and dry wit ;)

This is the type of BnB everyone talks about quitting their job and creating but none of us do. Fortunately for us Nancy and Frank have done it. The best breakfast we have ever had and a location having the 3 of the best wineries in the country within a few kilometres. The sauna is the icing on the cake. Book it without hesitation. It’s everything you want it to be and more.

Full disclosure: I've known Nancy and Frank for years, back when they were based in Montréal. So I can say with some authority that they are the most creative and enterprising duo I've ever met. I knew when they started out on this venture that they would create something beautiful, interesting, tasteful, thoughtful and, I don't know how else to say it, sweet. And yet it still took me two years to finally book a stay with them (because work, because life, because INSERT SILLY EXCUSE HERE). What a dumbo I was. My two-night stay there felt like a full week. They have created a place where disconnecting pretty much happens upon arrival. Maybe it's the house itself, which Nancy redesigned down to the smallest detail, with its quality linens and clean, bright bathrooms and views onto farmland. Maybe it's the property, with its beautiful old barns, one of which has an open hall right in the heart of it where they've set up a wooden table and chairs, strung up lights from the rafters and given guests a chance to sit with a glass of wine and look out on the fields (just one of many lovely lounging areas on the property). Maybe it's the breakfast table, where sweet and savoury dishes share the spotlight and their culinary creations wake up your tastebuds in entirely new ways. And the chickens! Who knew that free-range chickens ambling around in the yard and lazily going about their business could have the soothing effects of ocean waves? WHAT WAS THIS CRAZY MAGIC? As for Prince Edward County, anyone who has been there will attest to its stunning beaches (white sand! smooth pebble beaches! jagged hunks of the Canadian Shield jutting out into the water!) and the wine, well, that goes with the territory. (When I visited, Nancy and Frank's grapes weren't producing yet, which gives me one more thing to look forward to when I return). But, despite all of the surrounding beauty, the Wilfrid Boutique Farmhouse--and Nancy and Frank's signature hospitality--is what I most remember and cherish about my trip. I wouldn't judge a single soul if they skipped the wine tours and the beaches and set up camp in the hammock, swaying in the breeze and tossing the odd grape or two to the chickens (who, by the way, will comically run after them as though they're characters in your own analog video game). Nancy, Frank: thank you for making this farmhouse yours. And, by extension, ours. The soul of the place is shining bright.

Full disclosure: this ranks as one of the most beautifully written reviews we have received! Thank you so much for putting into words the hope we have that guests will understand what we have been trying to build at The Wilfrid. You get us! You even share our fascination with chicken rugby, or as you refer to it, the chicken video game. So excited to know that it won't take another 2 years before you come back to visit us! Just need to sit tight for a bit longer like we are all doing right now. Looking forward to seeing you on the other side of this social distancing:) Frank & Nancy
