We are located just off Lake Ontario inside the mouth of the beautiful Black River in a quiet corner of Prince Edward County. All of our cottages are newly renovated with air-conditioning (and heat in the cold months), a fully equipped kitchen and an extra large deck overlooking the water with seating and a BBQ. For your privacy, we have provided every cottage with their own fire pit. As a guest at Black River Cottages you will have free access to canoes, kayaks, paddle-boards and adult bikes as well as our seasonal swimming pool, playground and zip line for kids. Being on the river offers a unique opportunity to paddle up the Black River to the Cheese factory (approximately 800m) or continue on your journey for almost 7km to reach the village of Milford. Alternatively, you can paddle to the lake where you will enjoy the quiet countryside by water or tie up to our large floating dock and spend some time playing with the kids or enjoying a quiet sunset with our resident swan family. Our cottages are just 10km from Picton where you will find many unique shops and restaurants. And a scenic 20min drive will take you to Sandbanks Provincial Park, one of the largest and most beautiful beaches in Ontario.

For the first time in ages and due to the pandemic, our summer holiday plan resulted in my wife and I exploring Ontario, which included an awesome week long stay at this property.

True to their website and previous reviews we had read, this place ticked all the boxes and then some. We stayed in cabin #7 (aka The Starling) which was a 2 bedroom cottage.

This property really adhered to the Covid-19 situation with ample safety measures in place throughout the cabin and grounds. The information binder provided within the cottage was extremely informative and helpful. The cottage itself was very well equipped throughout, in terms of kitchenware, cleaning supplies, toiletries and furniture.

As mentioned by others, there were kayaks, canoes and s'ups to use which were included and always readily available. The above ground pool was a decent size and came in handy for a refreshing dip, if not in the river itself. The grounds were well maintained with ample space to move around. Located in the office were a decent selection of board games, books and dvd's for guests to use.

We especially liked the quiet and private feel of the property which only added to a relaxing week. The individual fire pits were a nice added bonus. Approximately 2 kms down the road is Morrison Point Farm which sells delicious honey and firewood. The town of Picton was only a 12-15 minute drive away if you needed anything.

It was a pleasure to meet and chat with Cindy who was extremely helpful in providing information about the property.

The only minor negatives we experienced were not being able to keep the sliding door to the deck open as there was no screen door. To be fair, Cindy did explain they had an on going problem of the screens being damaged by previous guests which I can't fault the property for but rather, perhaps guests could be a little more respectful when opening and closing them, as you would expect in your own home.

Additionally, an outside broom to combat the consistent cobweb build up would have been nice as some parts were pretty bad and finally, replace any burnt out/missing light bulbs as we had at least 3 missing from the living room lamps.

Overall, we had such a great time that we're considering a Christmas visit as well as for next summer! Thanks again Black River Cottages....what a gem!

We recently spent 4 days at Black River Cottages to celebrate a family reunion and birthday. From the very first contact with Noelene we knew this was going to be a special place and we weren't disappointed. Everything was exactly as described on the website. The cottages were lovely, clean comfortable and very well equipped. The setting was peaceful and serene and provided us with the perfect place to celebrate our time together.

In all we rented 7 cottages with members ranging in age from 1 to 80. There was something for everyone and the kids just had a terrific time. Every family member that stayed gave rave reviews of Black River cottages and we are all hoping that we can make this an annual retreat.

Both owners and staff of Black River cottages are amazing. They were most accommodating to our needs, responsive and absolutely lovely to deal with.

The only comment we have for improvements would be the check in / check out times, particularly the latter. For family with kids 10:00 is early to try and get packed, clean the cottage, feed the little ones etc Even extending that by 1 hour would be helpful.

I stayed with my mother and sister here for 3 weekday nights and EVERYTHING was amazing! Cindy communicated regularly with me whenever I had questions and was so friendly and helpful. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained! Cabins are renovated and comfortable, the common above ground pool is large and lovely, and that lake!!! Stunning bird views, kayaking at sunset, paddle boarding, so so fun. The vibe is very friendly, trusting, and not a party place, more relaxation and family/friends quality time. We stayed in cabin 7, along the water so there's some goose poop on the grass but with so many birds around we expected that. This is a gorgeous, reasonably priced, welcoming and beautiful place that we HIGHLY recommend.

My family with young kids recently stayed at the beautifully appointed cottage in Prince Edward county - BlackRiver Lakeside Resort. There are a number of cottages on the property, so it is great for large family get togethers where everyone can have their own cottage. It's simple but it in a beautiful setting and perfect for kids. My kids loved the park and zip line as well as canoeing/kayaking which was great for the whole family. The resort is really well located and in walking distance to the BlackRiver Cheese factory and Vicki's veggies. It's a really short drive to Sandbanks provincial park and other attractions. I loved that this spot was family owned and they were wiling to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Prince Edward county charm!

We have not long returned from a fantastic trip to the Black River Cottages. All 3 generations of our family thoroughly enjoyed themselves. As a family of 8 we booked the 3 bedroomed cottage, called the Woodpecker. We arrived to a immaculately clean cottage, that was very tastefully decorated and had all of the amenities we required. The grounds and facilities really sold it to us. The kids loved the pool as did we on a hot day, a great way to cool down. They also loved the playpark and the zip line. There are numerous kayaks, paddleboards, bikes as well as board games and DVD’s in the office for a rainy day. The area is very quiet and peaceful and an amazing place to watch the stars at night by the fire pit and by day stroll to the cheese and icecream shop. We are already looking at rebooking a stay at the Black River Cottages. A word of warning there is no wifi at the cottages, an added bonus for us, where we could switch off and enjoy family time.Thank you Cindy and family, we had a great stay!

We stayed there years ago but the cottages are now all very nicely updated. Unlike some other places where the cottages are right beside each other, this place has them far enough apart to have some privacy. There is no beach as it is by the river but the fantastic Sandbanks beach is a short drive away. The place is in a great location and is a perfect base for touring the rest of the county. We plan to be back again next summer. It is great for families too.

Our time at black River cottages was such a lovely discovery! We arrived late evening to be be so warmly welcomed followed by a nice BBQ by the fire. A night well spent at star gazing and drinking wine and leading to a restorative deep sleep in our cute Cabana. The following morning I was took by surprise with the stunning view on the river as the sun rosed. I took the time to lay in a hammock there and enjoy this amazing Serenity. The day offer plenty of activity on the site with paddle board and canoe, even to have a cocktail on the dock in the middle of the river! Very cute :)

Close to Sandbanks, this is the place to go if you want a quiet nook by the river and have some chill time! The couple who run the place is absolutely amazing :-) Picton is a few minutes away for groceries, coffee shops and fine dining!

My husband, our 8.5 years old daughter and I spent 4 nights at Black River Cottages last week. We had a wonderful time. The hardest part was to decide if we go to Sandbanks or stay at the resort to enjoy all the activities that it offers. The resorts is on the shore of the Black River, on a street that is very charming with no street lights. At night, you can enjoy an amazing sky and even see the Milky Way while watching fireflies and listening to bull frogs and other sounds coming from wild life along the river. The cottages are large in size and spotless clean. We will definitely return to this place.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Black River Cottages (BRC) for a spring weekend. The weather cooperated quite well and allowed us to enjoy the multitude of amenities available at BRC including an outdoor pool (unheated I believe), canoes, kayaks, basketball hoop, tether ball and kids playground. Our 1.5 year old had a blast running all over the many acres of the property. The cottages are well laid out each with a kitchenette, although they are a little on the smaller side. We had a two bedroom cottage which was perfect for our needs. Every cottage has an outdoor deck including a picnic table and bbq - we spent most of our time out here enjoying the sun and incredible vista of the Black River. Heather, the owner, is sweet and very helpful - she is in fact helping me to re-acquire a set of sunglasses I left behind at the resort. I will definitely be returning to BRC in the future. It is a perfect spot to enjoy everything that Prince Edward County has to offer, especially when travelling with kids.
