Although we only stayed for one night (New Year’s eve) during the Corona-Crisis, we were pleasantly surprised about the good mood the hotel manager and his wife were in. We felt at home immediately. We had the choice of 6 (!!!) languages to speak: Finnish, Dutch, English, German, Japanese or Korean. The room (apartment) we were in was tidy, warm and clean. The food (Dinner & Breakfast) tasted very good. The surrounding woodland invites for a long walk in peace and silence. No stress whatsoever. I don’t understand some of the reviews on this page. Maybe these people have rated the wrong hotel, because I couldn’t find any of the complaints mentioned fitting to the one we were in.
Came over from the UK for a bit of an autumn break to find a beautiful, inspiring and fantastic place that is definitely different from home. Friendly staff, lovely food with a very own take on cooking and nice and roomy spacious hotel. Good economy priced and very homely place to stay. Did enjoy the sauna very much, as it is not your everyday thing to do in the UK. Will definitely be back!
I just got back from a round trip in Europe. This hotel/motel or B&B style was surprising and near the town and Ruka ski area(about 25 minutes) They have nice big rooms and some cottages as well. While I was there, made some friends from japan and Korea and other countries. Easy going, no set time for breakfast. you can ask for it at 6 am or at 11 am, they let you decide. either, buffet style, or at your own set time, they serve you. The owner also assists in choosing excursions like husky sled tour(where you drive your own sled !) or a snow scooter safari. I more enjoyed cross country skiing right from my room. Hope to visit again sometime in the future. Greetings from Toronto !
I was here two nights recently on a work trip to Kuusamo. This place seems to be a hobby to the couple running it. Everything is almost there, but not quite. I stayed in a log house behind the hotel. The house itself is ok equipped, with fire place, fridge, electric sauna etc. But, it's not very well taken care off. Beds are cheap, linen costs extra. Food at the restaurant did not meet the standards, at least when I ate there once. Menu promises Thai food as well, but it's not available. They do not have licence for serving alcohol. Location is great, next to a beautiful lake, there's plenty of parking space and so, but do you pay for the lake and the parking lot. No, you pay for the food and bed. Couple running the place don't really speak Finnish that well, so please prepare to do it in English. Service is friendly though.…
Our trip started with car problems, so we tried to call the reception to query about the opening times in case we arrived late. After three tries, they finally picked up the phone, but neither of the two customer servants that I talked with knew even basic Finnish, so we ended up not getting any answers to our questions. The night had to be paid beforehand and no registration of any kind was made, overall the reception was not very professional. At least we were handed a receipt. The staff didn't have any command of Finnish language, which I think should be the standard in Finland. The hotel was weathered and run-down, the yard was messy, and the hotel room itself was cold and slightly dank. There was no drinking water or toilet paper, which according to the receptionist should have been there, and there was no kitchenette which was advertised so we ended up not being able to make breakfast ourselves. The walls were very thin, so every noise in the other rooms could be heard. The only positive thing was the location, which was peaceful and the lake nearby was beautiful. Overall, I would recommend looking for some other hotel if you're planning on staying in Kuusamo.…
This is a very nice and quiet place, nice hotelrooms and a good kitchen. Breakfast whenever you want and wake up. On the shore of a beautifull lake, with sauna and i also saw some rowing boats so i guess you can also take a row on the lake.
Peaceful and quiet, nice rooms, bigger than average size rooms, nice location and with a very reasonable price. Traditional Finnish foods but also Thai food are very tasty and very fresh, some products from their own garden. The owners will do their best to make your stay pleasant and help you arrange activities. And still the distance to the Ruka ski area is only about 30 minutes away. To the airport is only about 15 minutes. The hotel is located on the shore of lake iijärvi.
