Given that accommodation in Helsinki comes at a price, the Scandic Kallio represents decent value for money for a city break in this intriguing city. With a stop for four tram lines outside the hotel, it is easily accessible on arrival from the ferry port and railway station, and other parts of the city. Staff on reception were friendly, welcoming and efficient. Our room provided a comfortable bed with all necessary furnishings even if the bathroom and shower facilities were limited for space. The highlight was the excellent buffet breakfast which provided a wide range of cooked and cold items to suit all tastes. Within walking range of the hotel are a variety of bars and restaurants, with the Asian style establishments providing the best value.

The real score would be three and a half on average for everything.

The building is dilapidated on the outside and even looked closed from the outside.
The lobby is small, but the staff are very welcoming.

The rooms are nice, they have a small fridge to store your things, a safe, a nice TV, a small but functional bathroom.
The interior of the hotel is not bad, on the eighth floor there is also a nice sauna available to customers.

Good breakfast, rich and plentiful.

Location: the Kallio district is just outside the centre, but tram lines 3 and 7 pass in front and 8 next door, with which you can reach all parts of the city, very conveniently.

Quiet area, in front of a football field of a sports club, supermarket next door and also the pharmacy.

Would I recommend it to a friend? Yes, including the kindness of all the staff

We booked this hotel for Midsummer Eve to spend most of our time in the Vallila allotment garden at our friends' cottage.

This hotel with good tram connections has the authentic and rugged spirit of the bohemian Kallio district.

We booked the best room category that is a Junior Suite. The previous time we stayed at this hotel, this room was called a Superior Family Four room.

We got our room from the top 8th floor with great views. The noises of the heavy tram traffic didn't disturb us.

The suite has a small living room. Somebody had probably broken the living room television because it had been removed. The bathroom with a shower is very small but you can find a separate toilet next to the living room. The bed was good.

The breakfast is the most modest Scandic breakfast you can find in Helsinki. Luckily, the hotel was quite empty because the breakfast room is small.

Our stay had a quite good value for 109 euros. My partner got his Scandic TOP level welcome gift and a 15 euros voucher for the lobby shop or the room's minibar.

I stayed in Scandic Kallio for 8 nights at the beginning of June. The hotel has a bar open Monday to Saturday. Normal closing is 11pm, and 1am Saturday. On two of the weekday nights the bar staff told me to leave the bar as they were closing at 10:30. On Saturday night, I was told it was closing at 11:30, an hour and a half early. I told staff I was not ready to leave. Four non-guests came in about 10 minutes later so the bar stayed open. I complained about this to the manager on Monday morning. The only compensation I was offered was a free drink in the hotel bar! I declined this both because it was inadequate and I did not intend to visit that bar again.

Hotels in Scandic chain are always nice. This is no exception. Th city centre is 20 minutes ride by tram (the stop is just in the front of the hotel). Breakfast was fantastic and staff are extremely kind and helpful. Rooms are big with TV, fridge, bathroom (floor heated). Nice to have the sauna always at your disposal.

We had a room in second floor without a window. Room was small and worn out, one lamp does not work and the bed creaked when you turned your side, also the room smelled damp. Breakfast was good and the breakfast room was fresh.

I have now stayed at the Kallio twice in a row: each time I got a room upgrade: the first time to a superior room, the second time to a normal double room. It was quiet and the beds were comfortable (I have rarely seen such snow-white bed linen: great!). The TV only showed Finnish/foreign channels. But the WiFi was fast and easy to access. Breakfast: the second time I had breakfast almost at the end (weekdays until 9:30 a.m., Sat./Sun. 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m.): by then there were no eggs or rolls left. Otherwise everything was good. The best thing was the staff, who were extremely friendly. The first time you could leave the hotel in the evening, but it was difficult to get back in (there was only a bell and you could only hope to be let back in...).

Having stayed last week at an amazing Scandic in Copenhagen, this was really a disappointment, the single rooms are really really small and they feel a bit old. Not even a bed side table next to the bed fitted.
The bar was nice and the hotel staff was very nice.

Hi, Thank you for your review. We apologize your stay didn't quite exceed your expectations. Unfortunately the single rooms are small, but they were all renovated last year. Despite the disappointment, we hope you give us a second chance in a Standard Twin room another time as they are bigger in size and space. We wish you a nice weekend and hope to see you again!
