Overall, I did not enjoy my stay at Kex. I found the staff to be unfriendly and unwilling to help. The rooms were cold and barren and the beds uncomfortable. I think hostel life is not for me and Kex helped me realize that. I'm sure it's great for those who are used to that type of travel. It didn't...

We had a terrific stay at the Kex, the location is great, close to the city center, restaurants, the harbor etcetera. The hostel is clean, has a cool interior, and nice vibe. We spent a great deal of time in the restaurant/bar area for breakfast and also beer after our excursions, it was always a nice atmosphere there.

this was my favourite spot in reykjavik! the menu was inspired, the (tuesday evening) jazz was cool and relaxed, a beautiful mix of locals and tourists, old and young alike. we were there for dinner and live jazz on tuesday night, 9:00 pm. our 14 year old son was in heaven! gorgeous aesthetics, chill vibe

As a graphic designer, first off I fell in love with the aesthetics of the place. It's cozy, eccentric and interesting everywhere you look. And the whole team was helpful and fun. From the guy at the tourism desk who gave great advice (and then casually mentioned that he's in a Santa band) to the people at the check-in desk,...

Alright, consider this a 3,75 out of 5 ; let me explain. The location is great ; you're literally 5 minutes away from the main street. The design is cool : the hostel is big, goes on 3 floors and you'll find a restaurant as well as a bar at the 1st floor. It does feel cozy ; we stayed...

GF: In summary, if you are travelling on your own then this is great. But if you are looking for a cheap couples room, then it is average at best. For more detail read on... Ok, so I got to sort this night's accommodation, and thought we could save money and encounter a different experience at the Kex hostel (following...

Staff had bad attitude from the moment we arrived and wouldn't offer advice on local restaurants and bus transfers that had been pre-booked. Perhaps they should invest more time and money in training the staff with basic etiquette rather than curating an overpriced and contrived hipster hangout

Dinner, drinks, and a fun atmosphere! The food was great we all ordered different things and shared everything was delicious. The service was good for what we were looking for. Will definitely come back to this place one my next visit.

We liked the design and character of the hostel - very industrial and hip, but did not appreciate the poor cleanliness and maintenance. Our double room was cold and bare, and cleanliness was poor. One lamp was broken and the remaining light bulbs were dim and poorly positioned so half the room was in darkness. Great bar though. Wished we...

I can't recommend KEX highly enough! What a fantastic place to stay while in Reykjavik. The bar in the hostel is popular among travelers and locals alike, which made for great energy and actually, incredible food & drink. My first night I ended up getting a free room upgrade, and when it turned out that my bed for the following...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
It' s the Icelandic word for "biscuit" and a social hostel in Reykjavik. What's not to love? Housed in an old biscuit factory in the heart of Reykjavik, KEX is just steps from all the bars, clubs, and music venues that give this city its legendary reputation. It's also a painless distance from late night munchies and a mind-boggling array of coffee houses, shops, and tourist attractions. Of course, you might not even want to venture outside of the hostel with all its features: a cafe and bar, lounge area, heated outdoor patio, tourist information desk, laundry room, and free Wi-Fi. Two guest kitchenettes and private laundry facilities are also available. And with a variety of rooms for up to 214 guests, you'll have no problem meeting interesting, new travel buddies from exotic places. KEX oozes with personality and soul-just like our guests. Every piece of decor has a story to tell. Using salvaged materials and found objects from various sources, KEX is an organic concept blending Iceland' s past with a modern, international twist. The raw industrial spaces and vintage furnishings combine to give it a homey, eclectic feel. With the affordable nightly rates, you'll still have enough cash left over to enjoy a few pints of Viking beer or sample some local delicacies like hakarl and Brennivin. In addition to our dormitory rooms we offer three different double rooms: 1. Double Plus - 1 double bed, 1 private bathroom, linens and towels, and 1 fantastic seaside view. 2. Double Standard - 1 double bed (of the most clever convertible design in case you get tired of being so close to your travel partner), shared bathrooms, linens and towels, and if you are lucky the same fantastic view. 3. Twin - 2 single beds, linens and towels, and a better than average chance of making your friends back home quite jealous indeed. LOCATION: KEX is located in the center of Reykjavik, with a view across the sea to Mt. Esja across the bay. The old factory that houses KEX is also home to The Living Art Museum and studios of various artists, dancers, and fashion designers. KEX is within an easy walking distance to the city's interesting nightlife, restaurants, shopping streets, cultural attractions, and other points of interest in the city center. To reach those places a little further afield, the hostel is well connected to the city's public bus system. ... more   less
