The location is near the center of the city, near shops and restaurants. The building and its decorations are very cool and it is creatively decorated. The bar and patio are also nicely designed. It feels like a hipster coffee house in the common areas. The wifi was horrible in our room and while the metal bed frames look cool,...

This is a cool hostel, but it is expensive and impersonal. The dorm rooms are incredibly large and there are many people partying. However, the restaurant is great for dinner and drinks at night and allows you to socialize with other guests. It is a good enough spot that non-hostel stayers also come there! I would recommend this as a...

Really cool hostel with excellent retro furniture & great bar. Private rooms are expensive- this was a big treat for us. But we couldn't sleep- the room was right above the bar, down the corridor from a constantly banging door as people came & went. Late on, the corridor came alive with screaming people, all drunk, banging on doors, partying,...

We stayed in hostels all around the Ring Road. This was the worst one. The dormitories hold 16, which makes for a fairly noisy night what with snoring and scratching and so on. The band in the bar plays loud music until 2300 or 2400, and the strains of their music reach even to the 4th floor. The kitchen was...

Stayed in KEX for three nights and it was perfect, centrally located, easy going, clean sheets, with the option to either cook in their very well kitted out kitchens or to eat yummy food in their gastro pub! Couldn't recommended it more-suits groups or couples really well. Great value for money for students, with so many options for rooms from...

Bare average stay that didn't justify for all the hype I saw online. The bed was indeed comfortable and the food from restaurant was on point. That said, some of the staffs were very rude and didn't not want to give anyone time of day. In fact they would turn a blind eye to guests all the time but only...

Although we weren't staying here, we had heard good food was served here, and we weren't disappointed! Good selection of meals, great quality and good service. Just wish we had the chance to visit again!

My cousin and I went on an Iceland vacation for 12 days, our first and last days were in Reykjavik and we traveled all the way to Hofn, so basically we drove the south east part of the island. Kex hostel was one of the best places we stayed in. It´s centric, easy to find and very convenient, tuesdays there´s...

I have zero complaints about KEX. Our beds were incredibly comfortable. We had a fantastic view of Mt Esja too. I loved the decor in the whole building as well as our room. There was live jazz playing there the night we stayed and it was great. Our breakfast the next morning was very good too.

Hostel was hip and not your typical grungy, small Hostel. Had it's own real bar that people from the street come to drink at! During the time I went a music festival had been going on and it so happened that they ended the weekend festivak atbthis Bar/Hostel. Staff were very friendly. Rooms were clean and lockers were a nice...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
It' s the Icelandic word for "biscuit" and a social hostel in Reykjavik. What's not to love? Housed in an old biscuit factory in the heart of Reykjavik, KEX is just steps from all the bars, clubs, and music venues that give this city its legendary reputation. It's also a painless distance from late night munchies and a mind-boggling array of coffee houses, shops, and tourist attractions. Of course, you might not even want to venture outside of the hostel with all its features: a cafe and bar, lounge area, heated outdoor patio, tourist information desk, laundry room, and free Wi-Fi. Two guest kitchenettes and private laundry facilities are also available. And with a variety of rooms for up to 214 guests, you'll have no problem meeting interesting, new travel buddies from exotic places. KEX oozes with personality and soul-just like our guests. Every piece of decor has a story to tell. Using salvaged materials and found objects from various sources, KEX is an organic concept blending Iceland' s past with a modern, international twist. The raw industrial spaces and vintage furnishings combine to give it a homey, eclectic feel. With the affordable nightly rates, you'll still have enough cash left over to enjoy a few pints of Viking beer or sample some local delicacies like hakarl and Brennivin. In addition to our dormitory rooms we offer three different double rooms: 1. Double Plus - 1 double bed, 1 private bathroom, linens and towels, and 1 fantastic seaside view. 2. Double Standard - 1 double bed (of the most clever convertible design in case you get tired of being so close to your travel partner), shared bathrooms, linens and towels, and if you are lucky the same fantastic view. 3. Twin - 2 single beds, linens and towels, and a better than average chance of making your friends back home quite jealous indeed. LOCATION: KEX is located in the center of Reykjavik, with a view across the sea to Mt. Esja across the bay. The old factory that houses KEX is also home to The Living Art Museum and studios of various artists, dancers, and fashion designers. KEX is within an easy walking distance to the city's interesting nightlife, restaurants, shopping streets, cultural attractions, and other points of interest in the city center. To reach those places a little further afield, the hostel is well connected to the city's public bus system. ... more   less
