Fosshotel Baron earns praise for its prime location near Reykjavik's heart and the amiable staff who provide a welcoming and efficient service. Travelers are charmed by the cleanliness of the rooms, although opinions diverge on the decor, with some suggesting a need for refurbishment. The hotel's value is debated, as some guests feel that the cost is not fully justified by the basic amenities and pricey parking. Nevertheless, the hotel's breakfast and the convenience it offers for city exploration are frequently acknowledged.

We arrived to a warm welcome from receptionist. Although we arrived earlier at hotel to check in time one of the couples room was ready and ours wasn’t so it was nice to leave our luggage in the one room whilst we went out exploring the local area. The rooms were adequate for what we wanted, bed, shower, wardrobe, tea and coffee and kettle. The room was also clean and tidy and we had a harbour view? We requested a room next door to our daughter and son in law and this request was met. On the first night I found the mattress on the bed too hard and told receptionist in the morning and I was told whilst we go out a mattress topper would be put on the bed, that made the bed more comfortable and I had good nights sleep then. There was plenty of choice for everyone at breakfast time and food was nice and hot. The toaster was the slowest at toasting and still came out as warm bread though so had to put through again. Checkout time was 12pm so on leaving day we packed our cases and when we went out we put our luggage into a locker room to collect before leaving for the airport. All the staff were very friendly and the hotel was very close to the centre with lots of eating places nearby. When we return we shall definitely choose this hotel again.

Very clean hotel with nice staff, however don’t trust the photos if you’ve just booked a standard room! The room was very old and dated and not like any photos we had seen online. It was very dark, it didn’t have much natural light and the lights in the room were not bright enough. They have made the reception look lovely but as soon as you head towards the rooms it changes.

However the cleanliness was impressive and the room had all the basics.

Breakfast was a little expensive but very good selection and also very organised and clean. There weren’t any vegetarian/vegan alternatives for hot food but lots of other cold food options.

Location was good, tucked back from the main road so didn’t notice any outside noise, and the bus picks you up from outside the hotel if you have arranged the Flybus plus option. The area felt very safe and there is a shop behind the hotel, with lots of places to eat in walking distance.

Comfortable clean basic hotel. Comfortable beds small bathroom. Not plush but more than adequate. Good quality breakfast always replenishing items. Reception are helpful and can order transfers at a better rate. I like the idea that you only have your room cleaned when requested gives you more privacy. Obviously lots of hot water. Just not keen on the shower Curtain, would have liked the option of a bath.

Suffice it to say that they do not regovern the rooms..... if you want them to clean the bathroom, change the towels and we make the bed duty expressly ask! Not to mention the bathroom. 60s mignon sink, fixed shower head, no shelf where to lay soap. Breakfast with the eggs peeled and sliced, ditto the bananas cut into pieces for fear that guests will remove them for later consumption. 7 floors and a single elevator for both guests and staff. Ice-skating rink-type forecourt and no one to remove the ice. In short, never again!!!. Remember the name and DO NOT go there at all.

2nd visit to Iceland. This hotel rooms were shabby and aged. First room sink was smashed in centre and main window cracked. Asked to be moved immediately as anyone catching their fingers or hand in the sink would've had a very bad cut. Staff unaware of the damage, however moved us to another room. Second room kettle didn't even fit under tap to get water in order to make tea. Tried to book our return shuttle bus to airport took 3 staff to actually confirm it only to find out they had double booked us. Better hotels for same price around the area. We only booked this as attending a concert and was very near to the concert hall.

We stayed as a family of 3 in a deluxe room. The room was fine, a little dark in decor but generally clean. Large TV playing English channels which helps with children when getting ready in the morning etc.
the beds were ok, the sofa bed was fine for children although I wouldn’t think it would be comfortable for an adult.
location was great, walking distance to everywhere and bus stop right outside the hotel for all our tours.
Close to the harbour where we saw the northern lights.
Breakfast was included, cannot fault breakfast it was delicious.
We would have given 5 stars however on arrival we were asked how often we would like house keeping and chose every other day however our rooms were not cleaned or replenished the entire stay. We had to ask for clean towels etc and the old ones were never removed. Nonetheless we would stay again and recommend to others.

The hotel is located in a good location...steps from the shoreline and located close to the main shopping street Laugavegur and the main attractions in Reykjavik's city center. Added plus is that this is a pick up/drop off location for all the tours and transport for the airport. Otherwise, you would have to find a bus stop near your hotel. Breakfast was extensive. Bathrooms are small and if you get a room with a double bed, you get two twin size comforters, not a double size comforter. There is no heat control for the room so it can be a little cold in the room. They have a room to store your luggage if you arrive before check in or if you have a later flight. Front desk staff are friendly and helpful! I would come back again next time I visit Iceland.

We stayed in this hotel 2 times in the same week visit to Reykjavik. The check in and out was super easy, the breakfast buffet delicious and a big variety of food, the location was very walkable to the water front and tourist shopping. The staff was helpful, called taxis when we needed and gave helpful tips on getting around the area. Maria at the front desk was especially great. The upside, there are various room styles, some updated and large like the children stayed in. It was spacious and the 3 of them had plenty of luggage and movement space. The downside, some of the rooms are dated and small. My husband and I the first evening we stayed had a large spacious room which spoiled us. Our next check in, we had a markedly smaller room, tiny shower space with only a curtain, limited space to put suitcases and really no place to sit except the bed. Luckily, the children's room was so large, we spent all the hotel time in their space. I would recommend the hotel for convenience, breakfast and friendly staff. But some rooms are very dated so that may fall under luck what room you get.

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. The rooms are basic but comfortable and the hotel is located a short walk along a promenade from the main shops and attractions.

We particularly enjoyed the buffet breakfast and the option for a packed lunch (for an extra fee). This was very handy when out and about on sightseeing tours all day.

The main highlight of this hotel was its team, who were all exceptional. We always felt welcome and staff were always on hand if needed.

This hotel is a basic hotel in the centre of Reykjavik. It is not fancy, and the staff is very good, but it is basic lodging. My feeling is that presently Iceland is on a major tourist boom, and very busy in the summer months with cruise passengers, which creates an significant stress on the lodging establishments. After a busy summer season, they spend 8 or 9 months with significantly less occupancy. This creates a very tight hotel market, espeically in August, when I was at the Fosshotel baron. To that end, it is expensive and basic, and likely it will be a few more years before accomodation catches up to the buzz of tourism, especially in the summer. If you are looking for a room in Reykjavik, I recommend this hotel, as it has all the basic needs covered.

It was included in our room rate, which was put together from a package, so I don’t know how much it would be separately. If it would be possible to get it included in your room, I would recommend that as eating out is expensive and we found a number of restaurants did not open very early.
