Hotel Fron enjoys a prime position in the heart of Reykjavik, celebrated by guests for its central location, though parking challenges have been noted. The hotel's cleanliness and well-furnished rooms with cozy touches like heated towel racks often receive commendations, but some guests suggest improvements in housekeeping. While the service is generally regarded as friendly, experiences with staff responsiveness vary. The vibrant atmosphere is a highlight, but it can contribute to elevated noise levels, which are particularly noticeable in street-facing rooms and during weekends. Opinions on value and amenities are mixed, with some guests finding the pricing reasonable and the kitchenettes a bonus, while others feel the hotel falls short on certain comforts and consistent replenishment of supplies.

We booked this hotel on the main shopping street as it offered good value for money in a central location . It is a good 3 star hotel offering bed and breakfast and a range of rooms. We upgraded from the basic room to a studio so that we could self cater to keep food costs low as prices in Iceland are very high. The studio included a kitchinette which was fully equipped with a microwave, good size fridge, kettle, coffee machine, two ring stove top, crockery , utensils, saucepans all provided..As we had a full luggage allowance flying out we were able to pack our microwave ready meals in the suitcase. ( (Purchased in UK fresh with 7 days expiry then frozen immediately and packed frozen in suitcase so no issues of leakage en route), we also took out other food items for sandwiches etc. There is a Bonus supermarket about 5 minutes from the hotel if you did not want to take food out or needed to supplement you own provisions. The hotel provides a buffet continental breakfast which includes hot drinks coffee, tea , hot chocolate (lovely), bread, cold meats and cheeses, cerial, fruit, yoghurt, mini muffins and doughnuts, there is a toaster available in the restaurant. The inclusion of breakfast and upgraging the room to include the kitchinette kept food costs to a minimum so more money to spend on the wonderful tours and seeing Iceland. Hotel Fron was a very comfortable and clean hotel that enabled us to enjoy a fantastic 6 night holiday in Iceland at a reasonable price.

This hotel is centrally located, rooms were scrupulously clean, we had a room with a kitchenette which was great as it can be expensive to eat out all the time. The real stars are the receptionists who can not do enough to help you confirm things and book things so efficiently. Breakfasts are continental and something for everyone.

We stayed 1 night in a smaller room then went on a 3-day tour and came back to stay another 4 nights in a larger apartment. Everything about this place was fantastic.

First of all the staff are terrific. We arrived very early in the morning on Day 1; and they were able to get us into a room right away, which allowed us to unload our things, take a brief catnap, and freshen up. When we went on our 3-day tour, the hotel allowed us to leave a suitcase behind for safe keeping. They provided us with a fantastic recommendation for dinner (lamb at Matarkjallarinn). And when we called them after having checked out and headed to the airport only to discover our flight was cancelled, they were able to accommodate us for another night in our same room at a discounted rate.

The rooms themselves are clean and comfortable. The first room was smaller but offered plenty of room and was just what we needed for a one-night stay. The second apartment was spacious and offered us the ability to spread out. There was a balcony. The kitchen had a kettle, coffeemaker, and refrigerator. Breakfast each morning was a nice array of continental offerings.

The location cannot be beat. We walked everywhere. Shops and restaurants are right outside the door. We visited Harpa, City Hall, Sun Voyager, the Saga Museum, etc., all on foot. After breakfast each morning, we headed to Kaffibrennslan for coffee. Lovely, friendly coffeehouse.

We will definitely return!

This was my first first to Iceland and in terms to hotel, I picked a winner. Hotel Fron is a great hotel. The location is first class. It is located to many bus stops which will serve as the pick ups and drop offs for airport runs and day trips. There are lots of restaurants, bars and shops located within walking distance. Next to the hotel is a bar, a few minutes walk there is an Irish bar not to mention plenty of food options.

The local attractions are all walkable. I was able to walk to the Old Harbour, the Sun Voyager, the Harpa and the Hallgrimskirkja church.

The hotel itself was just as good. The room me and my friend had was a good size with two twin beds that were very comfortable. In the room there was a small kitchen area which included two rings, a microwave, glasses, plates, a bottle opener, cutlery, washing up liquid, dish towel. This was all very helpful as we had wine but it had a cork so the bottle opener was a blessing and so was the fork when I got take out food one night but wasn't provided with any cutlery.

Breakfast was included which is always a plus. It was continental so had bread, cold meats, fruit, muffins, doughnut, cereal and juice. I was happy with that considering I don't eat breakfast normally when at home so having toast and a muffin was enough.

Finally the staff that we came into contact with were very friendly. We did have to go to reception a few times and we asked one member of staff to call up the airport transfer as we needed to change the ticket and also we needed various things printed out and the staff member was all too happy to assist us.

Overall a great stay at this hotel. I hope to come back to Iceland and next time I do, I will be coming back to this hotel.

My daughter and I have just returned from 5 amazing days in Reykjavik which was and this hotel was in a perfect location. The room was basic but comfortable and clean and a nice hot shower (after you gave the water time to heat) was just what you needed to come back to after a day of sightseeing. When we arrived the evening receptionist was very "efficient" but when we saw her the next morning she could not be more helpful. Breakfast is included but is typical continental which is fine to set you up for the day. Only issue is the buses from the airport do not drop you at the hotel but at a bus stop 5 minutes walk away so if you have a lot of luggage be prepared for a slightly chilly walk. Would go back to this hotel again next time I return.

Hotel Fron is right in the centre of Reykjavik town centre, easy walking distance to plenty shops, bars and restaurants. However with this comes some noise from said bars but the hotel is very accommodating if you require a room towards the back of the hotel.
The rooms are nice and modern ours included 2 single beds, ensuite with shower (water does need to be run a while before using however due to smell of sulphur but not a big issue) fridge, tv and kettle
Breakfast is excellent. A good choice of continental breakfast including meats, cheese, cereals, eggs, bread, juice, tea and coffee. Only one small toaster though so could be a bit of a queue for toast.
Overall throughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again

The hotel is in a good location, in a pedestrianised section of the road, so you can’t actually stop in a car outside the hotel to drop off your luggage. Requesting on-site parking is hit and miss, mostly miss.

We stayed at this hotel at the beginning of our holiday on a Monday night and it was very peaceful. The last two nights of our holiday were a Friday and Saturday night which were quite noisy. The thumping music from the bar/club next door went on until about 4:30am, then the revellers spill into the street, very loudly, with car horns tooting. This goes on until about 5am. Around 6:30am the pavement/road cleaner arrives!

The two rooms we had overlooked the front of the hotel and had a balcony which was nice. The rooms are clean and tidy however very dated and in need of some TLC. Both rooms had a kitchenette which would be handy if you wanted to self-cater. The venetian blinds during our second stay needed some attention and one didn’t tilt at all.

The breakfast was plentiful but very basic compared to the other hotels we stayed in during our holiday. Nothing hot except for toast.

Now on to the staff. The younger dark haired lady receptionist was very unhelpful and quite grumpy. I don’t think I ever saw her smile! She needs to brush up on her interpersonal skills as she will put guests off ever returning. On the other hand, the slightly older lady receptionist (and a gentleman who we believe may have been the manager/owner) were both much more helpful and cheerful. Such a contrast.

Overall an OK stay. Would we stay there again, probably not. I am sure there are better hotels in Reykjavik, with a welcoming receptionist and a quieter nights sleep!

I enjoyed staying here and would highly recommend it, it was a perfect location for trips, shopping and restaurant's, there is a restaurant attached to the hotel and you can have a 10% discount in there which is helpful considering the cost of living in Iceland, portion size was good too. This hotel is ideally located for organising trips etc. A friendly and warm welcome. Breakfast gets busy at some times but we did manage to get a table every day. There was a constant top up of food at breakfast and lots of choice of cereal, meat, cheese, bread and the croissant's are fantastic. We had 2 rooms, one was just a room and one was a studio with some cooking facilities, both were clean and although we didn't cook if you find you need to reel in your budget then a studio would be ideal for a quick pasta dish or some soup.
If I was returning to Iceland I would not hesitate to re-book this hotel, ticked all the boxes for me.
Quick tip - print off some maps from google as when you get off the bus from the airport you do wonder where you are. Also DO book a transfer from the airport to the hotel (you get dropped off in town and need to walk) a 10 minute taxi ride was £25 locally and it's an hour from the airport.
You can see the northern lights from the sea front as easy as an organised trip so save some money there. Also do some reading up on how to photograph the Northern lights (very difficult to actually see with your naked eye
but they do come up on the camera (check your camera settings for night shots)
All in all an ideal hotel in a good location.

We stayed at Hotel Fron for 3 nights and we really liked its central location. Many of the city's cafes, restaurants and museums are within walking distance while it is only a 20-25 minute walk from the bus station serving the airport.

Our room was clean and it even had a small kitchenette. We had a room at the building not facing the main road so we didn't experience any noise. However, what we noticed was that the watering in the bathroom had a smelly feel. Inside the room, there was also a table with two chairs which took the majority of the space and we had to move it to make room for our luggage.

The breakfast was decent with some variety of items, and even though during our first morning there we had a nice experience, on the second day it was different. The restrictions when we visited asked people to keep a 2 meters distance inside or wear a mask if unable to do so. The breakfast area that morning was full of people and nobody from the staff asked anybody to wear a mask, keep a distance or use hand sanitiser before touching the common utensils from the breakfast buffet. The tables were very tight and people were right above our heads queuing to get breakfast while we were trying to eat.

I booked this hotel in advance due to it offering 2 bedrooms for sleeping and onsite parking because we were travelling with two 3 year olds. Before booking, I confirmed the rooms had doors that could be closed and the parking onsite was available. I was told that parking spots could not be reserved so far out, so I needed to check back sooner to my travel date.

Checking back a month before travel, I was told there was no parking available, but not to worry because parking is free downtown from 18:00 - 9:00 the next day. That sounded ok. This was our first time in Iceland and finding open parking after 18:00 is not easy. And finding an open spot near the hotel is not easy either. Also, you have to move your car in the morning, or make sure you start paying for street parking.

While that would be still ok, what really upset me with the hotel was the different story I would get from each person I talked to about parking. When I booked, I was told I could get a parking spot. When I checked back in to ask for one, I was told nothing was available. Our first night here, I checked again because after hauling our luggage to the hotel with two toddlers 1km to our street parking is not an easy chore when you have e-scooters buzzing past you and/or cars and buses to worry about. The front desk person checked and said there would be a spot opening up for our second and last night. He took down our info and said we needed to get the access key from the daytime clerk. The next day when I went to the front desk, that person acted like there was no note and said there wasn't parking and it would cost me if I would get one.

Total frustration when it seems like every other person I talk to acts like parking is available and seems to offer it... and then the next person tells me no.
So morale of the story, don't believe they offer parking here until your car is actually parked in a spot.

The large room we got shares walls with a club/bar that plays thumping dance music late into the night. Not a great place to get some rest for a family.
And I think their website boasts room darkening curtains which was another thing my wife wanted to make sure we got, since we were travelling in July with sunsets after 11pm and sunrises before 4. I'm not sure what other hotels offer, but window blinds and curtains that don't even reach the walls does not do the job of darkening. And I just changed my rating because I realized the pictures on their website do not match the below average quality of the room we were given.

I can't recommend bringing young families because while the room/accommodation is a good size and layout, the location of the hotel and the lack of parking is not worth the hassle. And the large room we got is way noisier and too bright in summer time.

I made a bad decision by choosing this place and I hope to save someone else the bad experience in advance.
