We stayed two nights here as part of our hiking vacation in Salzkammergut. We had a large and comfortable room and the host was very friendly. The breakfast was good too. The hotel is maybe 10 minutes walk from the center of Hallstatt. It is very conveniently located for visits to Salzwelten Hallstatt, the salt mines.
One of the unknown gems of Austria and Europe, we loved our stay in Hallstatt from the people to the salt mine tours to the lake tours to the absolute beauty. Hotel choices are good but need to be sure to have a reservation before going.
The Pension Gruner Anger is just off the main street in Hallstatt: very close to the Salt Mine funicular, 5 minutes from the lake, a 10-15 minute walk to the classic view of Hallstatt. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Great Breakfast. Traditional European fare, along with hot items such as eggs and bacon.
This is a privately owned and the owner is absolutely arrogant to the customers. We had a terrible experience, we couldn’t check in at this hotel as the property was locked when we arrived with no instructions on how to enter the room and without any email from the owner. When we called him he was downright arrogant and didn’t make any arrangements for us to enter the property. the worst experience on our first night in Austria. Will never visit again.
Our room was very clean as was the building. Room had no a/c and the day and night was muggy and could have used the air. Breakfast was good but not great. Parking is somewhat of a situation as spaces are very limited, about 5 places Owner could use crash course in personality
I booked here based on their reasonable rates, location to Hallstatt and Rick Steve's recommendation. It is now the best B&B I've ever stayed at and the highlight of our trip. It is located near the base of the salt mine funicular which is about a 10min walk from the ferry or 2mins from the bus stop with amazing views of the mountains but in a much quieter location than the over touristy downtown Hallstatt. The room was spacious, clean and had a lovely balcony facing the mountains. The breakfasts were just fabulous with everything from hot to cold items that made a proper feast!! The owners were always willing to help with questions about things to do or where to eat. I had booked 1 night on a booking site and when I tried to add a night they said sold out , but when I called the hotel directly, Gottfried (I believe he's the owner), managed to add the date and for less than I paid for the 1st. They were just the warmest staff and it was very kind of the owner to drive us to the ferry so we didn't miss our train. I look forwarding to returning here someday and I recommend it to anyone staying in this region!…
Have to be careful when entering the hotel address exactly in Hallstatt into Sat-Nav as it tries to take you the scenic route along a narrow, hilly forest road. Would be ok in summer but in early March we drove about 4 miles along it until our route was blocked by snowfall and trees! So eventually finding the main, proper tunnel road through the mountain got my wife and I to the Gasthof Pension Gruner Anger Hotel at around 7pm. Built in traditional chalet style, it is a clean, well run, new looking hotel. The owner was friendly and welcoming on our arrival and there was free parking right outside. The mountains are literally on the doorstep and we got a free upgrade from double room to double with a balcony overlooking part of the charming town and looming peaks. It was very clean and quiet and we didn’t hear any of our fellow guests. Breakfast was buffet style in the dining room with all the usual bacon, eggs, bread, ham and cheeses all done very nicely but also included fried potato and onion fritas, stirfry rice and a noodle soup. We decided to visit the salt mines the next day and the owner gave us vouchers worth 2 euros each off the ticket price. The furnicular tram station up to the mines is only 2 minutes walk from the hotel with a view point another 5 minutes from the terminal at the top. There is a lift to the view point to save walking up a steep path from the terminal if preferred. The owner kindly let us leave our hire car outside the hotel while we visited the mines too! All in all, a very relaxing stay at this fine, friendly hotel. …
One of best Breakfast I've ever had in a hotel,. Small family run hotel, excellant views of mountains all around, very friendly and helpful. Very close to Lake and Salt Mine. Spotless clean, cannot recommend enough.
It was great staying at Gruner Anger, breakfast was an amazing buffet, also the room was very nice and we had a balcony with a great view of the houses and the nature. The owner is very nice and helpful always and it is also located near by the cable car, which is great!! I highly recommend it.
Very picturesque area. This simple pension is a great stopping off place. Comfortable rooms and bathroom, a good breakfast. Free parking. Easy walking distance to all of Hallstatt. The area was full of tourists when we went but most are day trippers. Must be very busy in the summer!
