You book your 4 star hotel thinking wow, they must be nice at 4 stars but you'll quickly be reminded upon arrival that the number of starts does not mean anything any more. Location: The hotel is near the University, which is near to Rathaus, which is near to the Hofburg Palace, which is near Stephan Platz, which is the...

We stayed in this hotel while my partner was giving a lecture series at the university, which was just a few minutes walk away. The hotel room itself was clean enough, fairly comfortable, spacious and provided large amounts of storage space. Most of the staff members we dealt with were keen to help us with queries, friendly and helpful. However,...

I have spent a couple of nights here and have chosen this hotel because at the beginning of december it was one of the cheapest in the 8. Bezirk that is my favourite one. Just 10 minutes by feet from Rathaus (straight Lange Gasse and then turn left) and 2 minutes from Strassenbahn stop to Schottentor, the hotel offers free...

Close to everything. Safe neighbourhood, clean room and plenty of restaurants around. The best is the elevator... It takes you to another epoca. Love it! the metro station is only 5 min walk. the rathaus is 5 min walk. Super close to evrything.

Be very careful when you check in to this hotel especially if you have booked through a third party. Although paid in full the receptionist insisted we needed to pay for another night as only one night had been taken for. Upon stating my booking and confirmation he quickly back down however initially argued that there must of been something...

We were meeting a dear friend for a long weekend in Vienna, and she had stayed at this hotel several times before. The hotel is well located in a residential area, with several coffee shops and restaurants nearby. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Our room was large and comfortable, with free wi-fi and the breakfast buffet was good,...

Star ratings seem very liberal in Europe. The Pension Baroness is nice older hotel, but not a 4 star by American standards. Also, nowhere near the type of facilities of the Hilton or Marriot near the Danube, which also are rated 4 stars. It is not quite in the Innestadt, but is very near the ring and near a major...

With friendly staff, elegantly decorated rooms with an antique look and close to the heart of the city, it made our stay in Vienna even more beautiful than expected! At a few minutes walk, there are some good restaurants and the distance to the nearest metro station is acceptable.

Friendly, helpful staff, clean rooms, good wifi connection (no extra charge), and in a good location for sightseeing. We visited during a heatwave and the hotel does not have air conditioning; this is why I gave it a "Poor" rating. Our first room faced the inner court and was stuffy. We were allowed to change rooms to one facing the...

Staying in Josefstadt

Neighbourhood Profile
The eighth district is an older generation’s Vienna at its finest: and this is what makes it popular with locals of all ages. Josefstadt has theatre, small independent shops, romantic passageways, neighbourhood cafés with regular clientele, church squares, town palaces and shady communal gardens. Trendy hangouts have conquered distinctive places such as the Old General Hospital (Altes AKH) and the vaults of overground U6. Theater in der Josefstadt on Josefstädter Strasse is the district’s cultural epicentre. Even if your German isn’t good enough to watch a play, you can marvel at the typical Biedermeier building and take a glimpse into the foyer. Lange Gasse houses an iconic local restaurant at its corner, as well as a legendary sweet shop and a bustling neighbourhood market every Saturday. For small palace atmosphere and a different view on Vienna’s history, make your way to Schönborn garden palace (Palais Schönborn), which houses the Museum of Folk and Folk Art (Volkskundemuseum). Maria-Treu-Platz, with its summer outdoor cafés facing baroque church Maria Treu, and the historic passageway of Lerchenfelder Strasse 13 hide top spots for insiders.
