I spent two nights in this great little hotel. I'll join the rest of the comments in saying that it's a great value for the money, within a walking distance from all the main attractions. But what won me over when looking for a place...More
I just spent four nights at Baronesse, and I'd definitely go back. The price was right, the staff was friendly and knowledgeable, the room was clean, the breakfast was free and substantial ... and the location was great. Baronesse sits outside the ring on Langegasse,...More
I stayed Baronesse my secret home during september 2011 for seven days. This was my first trip abroad and was bit worried about the safety. The hotel offered excellent services right from online booking. I had contacted the hotel via e-mail and there was a...More
We stayed here in Feb 2012 for 4 nights and had a great time. The room we had was lovely - very large and spacious with lovely old fashioned fixtures and fittings. Outside at this time it was about -10 every day - and I...More
The one problem seems not to be mentioned by the top reviews: it's a solid 10-15 min walk just to get to the Rathaus, which is the very edge of the historic city center. The walk to the Kunsthistoristiches, one of the closest old city...More

The eighth district is an older generation’s Vienna at its finest: and this is what makes it popular with locals of all ages. Josefstadt has theatre, small independent shops, romantic passageways, neighbourhood cafés with regular clientele, church squares, town palaces and shady communal gardens. Trendy hangouts have conquered distinctive places such as the Old General Hospital (Altes AKH) and the vaults of
overground U6. Theater in der Josefstadt on Josefstädter Strasse is the district’s cultural epicentre. Even if your German isn’t good enough to watch a play, you can marvel at the typical Biedermeier building and take a glimpse into the foyer. Lange Gasse houses an iconic local restaurant at its corner, as well as a legendary sweet shop and a bustling neighbourhood market every Saturday. For small palace atmosphere and a different view on Vienna’s history, make your way to Schönborn garden palace (Palais Schönborn), which houses the Museum of Folk and Folk Art (Volkskundemuseum). Maria-Treu-Platz, with its summer outdoor cafés facing baroque church Maria Treu, and the historic passageway of Lerchenfelder Strasse 13 hide top spots for insiders.

Train + Metro seemed the best choice for us. There is an express line travelling every 30 min between airport and city (no stops between). The city train station is adjacent to a metro station. From there you can either use the metro (green line from StatdPark to Schotenrring, then switch to purple line from Schotenrring to Schottentor) or go above and take some trams. It's very easy to use public transport in Vienna don't worry about getting lost. They are very organised and they have signs pointing to all directions everywhere. You can even go by foot if you travel light and enjoy long walks ~ 40 min. We stayed for 3 days and by the end of the trip we were hopping trams and metros like crazy. I really recommend a 3 day pass to all public transport.
