Perfect hotel for us in terms of location. Room was tidy and bed was very comfortable. However, we did find the room extremely hot and struggled to cool it down. The hotel bar was poor, mainly because there was never any staff available to serve us. General customer service was efficient. No hellos or smiles, but did what they needed...

We spent a week in the hotel in winter. The staff is friendly and very helpful, even in the late evening. Phil Hartmann, the receptionist, was the first person which met us, and he was just excellent in his effective and quick service. Room was clean and spacious, breakfast can be recommended for friends, the room service is attentive and...

Excellent even over New Year. Perfect service, polite, attentive and trying to make everything working. I am not a Mercure friend as ordinary in France a bit low level, but this was a fantastic surprise. Also due to the perfect location (all sights of 1st district in walking distance) a great recommendation.

We spent 3 wonderful days in Wien right after Christmas. Not only the city but the hotel gave us unforgettable memories thanks to the nice staff, great service, elegant+spacious interior and delicious breakfast. The icing on the cake was the perfect location. As far as I am concerned I would honestly recommend this accommodation to everyone. Greetings from Budapest

The hotel is nicely located within proximity to public transport and supermarkets. The staff are friendly and helpful. Housekeeping could do a better job but this doesn't affect the positive rating. Thumbs up

The hotel is incredibly conveniently located between Rathaus and Volkstheater. The 2 and 46 trams are one block away, the U2 or U3 are two blocks away and the Rathaus is a 8 min walk. The rooms were great and the staff very pleasant. They have a late checkout policy that allows guests to stay until 1400, 1600, or 1800...

This hotel was very conveniently placed for us as we wanted to do a lot of walking. It was easy to reach many sites on foot. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the novelty of a free drink in exchange for not having the room cleaned every day - appparently a contribution to a more green operation....

An excellent hotel with informed competent friendly staff. Breakfast was always fresh with many choices as to the type of breakfast one would want on any particular day: continentalwith fresh breads, cakes croissants, etc. or, with eggs, bacon cold meats, raw fresh vegetables all with coffees, teas, juices, fresh fruits. A good way to start a long walking day. TV lacking in...

Front desk staff was very helpful. The room was quite comfortable. We had an easy walk to several of the Christmas markets and even found a local market on some side streets what was an extra treat. We did not have a meal in the restaurant or use any other services. For the price, we were very happy with our...

Staying in Josefstadt

Neighbourhood Profile
Josefstadt
The eighth district is an older generation’s Vienna at its finest: and this is what makes it popular with locals of all ages. Josefstadt has theatre, small independent shops, romantic passageways, neighbourhood cafés with regular clientele, church squares, town palaces and shady communal gardens. Trendy hangouts have conquered distinctive places such as the Old General Hospital (Altes AKH) and the vaults of overground U6. Theater in der Josefstadt on Josefstädter Strasse is the district’s cultural epicentre. Even if your German isn’t good enough to watch a play, you can marvel at the typical Biedermeier building and take a glimpse into the foyer. Lange Gasse houses an iconic local restaurant at its corner, as well as a legendary sweet shop and a bustling neighbourhood market every Saturday. For small palace atmosphere and a different view on Vienna’s history, make your way to Schönborn garden palace (Palais Schönborn), which houses the Museum of Folk and Folk Art (Volkskundemuseum). Maria-Treu-Platz, with its summer outdoor cafés facing baroque church Maria Treu, and the historic passageway of Lerchenfelder Strasse 13 hide top spots for insiders.
