My wife and I stayed for three nights recently. We have only great things to say about our stay. Firstly, the hotel is perfectly located for the Museum Quarter and other key central attractions and is also only a few minutes walk from excellent underground links and a point to catch the open top Vienna bus tours. Our room was...

My friend and I stayed at the Hotel Rathaus Wein & Design for three nights, and it was easily our favorite hotel stay during our vacation. The hotel is located about a 5-minute walk from the Museum Quarter, and is surrounded by original boutique shops. The train station is about a five-minute walk away. I absolutely adored the unique and...

Dear B.G. from Chicago, thank you very much again for staying with us. I well remember you and your friend, we were talking about the midwest for quite a long time in our winebar before you were heading for your late dinner at the Steirereck... :)! I am more than happy you have had such a wonderful stay with us...

This is a great hotel. Everything I wanted to see and do was within pretty easy walking distance. My room was large and had a very cool vibe. The wine theme is very well done. Loved being able to enjoy Austrian wine there. The staff was fantastic. Very helpful and gave great advice on what to do and where to...

We were quite pleased with our sizable and well-designed room, the great AC, the helpful staff, the breakfast and snack options, the location and the clever execution of the wine theme. We would certainly stay here again and recommend it to friends visiting Vienna.

I was there in Sep. Its a nice hotel if you know what you are getting which is: --clean rooms, not luxury but there is thought put into design, so not bad design, but not amazing either --amazing breakfast, with nearly 20 kinds of different cheese and bread. --reasonably central location on a quite street, great for quite evenings, and...

I stayed here for 10 days during my first trip to Europe. The service was impeccable and the location was great (very close to U2/U3). Just a few minutes walk to Parlament where you can hop on trams. Also very close to Josefstädter Straße where wonderful restaurants and cafés are found. Don't miss the breakfast because the coffee is so...

Interesting design themes following local wine regions. Absolutely amazing breakfast options - one of the best we ever had over the years of travel. Very helpful staff regardless of the shift. Good family restaurants close by. Overall, it...

We stayed 5 nights at this hotel in Vienna and had two rooms. The hotel staff (especially Conrad & Bernhard) went out of their way to answer our pre-arrival questions to the city. They also arranged for our transportation from the airport to the hotel - a great treat after our long flight from the USA. The property is located...

Staying in Josefstadt

Neighbourhood Profile
Josefstadt
The eighth district is an older generation’s Vienna at its finest: and this is what makes it popular with locals of all ages. Josefstadt has theatre, small independent shops, romantic passageways, neighbourhood cafés with regular clientele, church squares, town palaces and shady communal gardens. Trendy hangouts have conquered distinctive places such as the Old General Hospital (Altes AKH) and the vaults of overground U6. Theater in der Josefstadt on Josefstädter Strasse is the district’s cultural epicentre. Even if your German isn’t good enough to watch a play, you can marvel at the typical Biedermeier building and take a glimpse into the foyer. Lange Gasse houses an iconic local restaurant at its corner, as well as a legendary sweet shop and a bustling neighbourhood market every Saturday. For small palace atmosphere and a different view on Vienna’s history, make your way to Schönborn garden palace (Palais Schönborn), which houses the Museum of Folk and Folk Art (Volkskundemuseum). Maria-Treu-Platz, with its summer outdoor cafés facing baroque church Maria Treu, and the historic passageway of Lerchenfelder Strasse 13 hide top spots for insiders.
