Guests at Hydro Hotel often commend the service for its professionalism and warmth, noting the attentive staff enhances dining and promptly addresses issues. The amenities, including pristine rooms and delightful food, are highly praised, especially for the picturesque views and gardens. While rooms generally receive positive feedback for their vistas and comfort, some guests point out the size, noise levels, and dated decor as drawbacks. Nevertheless, the hotel's tranquil, historic atmosphere and ideal location near attractions are frequently celebrated, with many considering it to offer good value for money.

The room was gorgeous. We were allowed to have our dog with us and because we paid a supplement for him, room service for breakfast was free. The staff were amazing and everyone went the extra mile to be kind and helpful. We spent four days before our three day stay at the Hydro in an other hotel and it was such a treat to then book into the Hydro. I would not want to stay anywhere else when visiting Eastbourne again.

This is our first visit to Hydro Hotel & Eastbourne for a one night stay. We chose this hotel as its location is set in a quiet area away from busy roads yet it is very close to the seafront and promenade. On arrival there was plenty of parking. Our room (215) was a Sea View Twin which was spacious, spotlessly clean, bright & modern. The view was superb of the grounds which seemed to flow endlessly to the sea. Our evening meal in the Crystal restaurant was excellent, plenty of choice the food arrived promptly and steaming hot served by pleasant friendly staff. Plenty of breakfast choices, again prompt and hot and locally sourced. Our full English breakfast was extremely tasty and kept us going for the rest of the day. We used room service just the once which was quick and efficient. If we had stayed here longer we would have loved to have dined in The Conservatory as well, which has magnificent views of the hotel grounds which are well maintained. The hotel has plenty of areas to sit and relax in comfy high backed chairs whilst admiring the beautiful period décor of this wonderful hotel. We are very much looking forward to returning here again and hopefully for a longer stay.

Spent Two nights at the Hydro and would have to be extremely picky to find any faults with our trip.
Clean , comfortable room with lovely sea views,we also enjoyed sitting in the hotels grounds, relaxing just watching the sea.
Staff at Dinners and Breakfasts were professional and friendly.
We enjoyed all meals , dinners in Crystal Room were first class ,we found wine prices perfectly acceptable.
Comfortable lounge easy to relax in.
All in all a Hotel we will certainly return to,hopefully once covid is over and we can see Hotel at its best.

Myself and my partner booked to stay at the Hydro Hotel for 3 nights. Upon arrival we were greeted by a rude member of staff, we asked if he knew if the weather would change shortly as it was raining in which he replied "do I look like a weather reporter". First impressions the hotel didn't feel very welcoming. Our room was unbelievably hot when we entered and this was on a rainy day, with no air conditioning we had to use the most useless fan provided in the wardrobe. The size of our room and the decor was not worth the amount we paid (boxy and dated) and the view from our window also didn't make up for the price we paid (we were looking onto a retirement home). The cold water tap in the bathroom came out as warm water which was unpleasant. The breakfast is of poor quality, it really wasn't appetising or appealing and actually made me feel nauseous. Our mushrooms weren't cooked properly. The dining room where breakfast is served looks grand but actually has the atmosphere of a care home (the smell of urine is not appealing whilst eating breakfast). Adding to the atmosphere at breakfast everyone also looks miserable, even the staff. The hotel doesn't have a night receptionist which was odd but does have a night porter named Paul who was very kind and helpful as we asked for a recommendation on where to order food as no place was open. The most enjoyable part of the hotel was the pool, the views from the gardens and the closeness to the beach. I wouldn't recommend this hotel if you want quality as the Hydro appears to be posh but under the surface it lacks quality, in other words it isn't worth the money. The hotel also isn't very suited for younger people (being younger guests ourselves) or families with children as I can't imagine the other guests would be to pleased with too much noise. Overall the experience wasn't as expected.

Dear Guest Thank you for your review on Trip Advisor. Please accept my sincere apologies for the impression you received from your recent stay. As a matter of urgency your constructive feedback will be used at our review meeting to highlight where we can further enhance our service and hospitality. Unfortunately we do not have air conditioning in the hotel and recently the weather has been warm, where possible we do place fans in bedrooms for guest use. I was surprised to read your comments on the hotel feeling like a retirement home and the odour to which you referred to in the dinning room, both remarks i respectfully disagree with. I was pleased to read you enjoyed our outdoor pool and thank you again for taking the time to post a review on Trip advisor. best wishes Jonathan Owen

This hotel is the jewel of Eastbourne. I cannot praise the staff, the management, the grounds enough. The covid pandemic has been incredibly hard for hospitality and other businesses, but our recent stay at The Hydro was wonderful. We felt safe, the standards and service have not declined one bit and we could relax and enjoy our stay.
It's wonderful that all key staff have been retained over the various lockdowns and the experience they have is obviously valued by senior management and the owners.
We stayed a few nights, and then a small group of dancers joined us for a midweek break. The bedrooms our group were allocated had been refreshed over the lockdown and there wasn't one complaint from our party.
The food, breakfast and dinner, is exceptional quality with service to match.
With many hotels finding post lockdown difficult for a variety of reasons, The Hydro with their investment in staff, who some have worked at the Hydro for over 20 years, are providing a wonderful hotel where you know from the moment you check in to the moment you check out, you will be looked after in a clean, comfortable hotel, with impeccable service in a superb quiet location.
From one manager to another, I congratulate Jonathan for running a lovely hotel in very testing times.
P. S. Bring your swimmers, the restidents only pool is warm and not overlooked.

I spent two nights at the Hydro Hotel. It is an historic hotel with a beautiful and stylish entrance and lobby. Lots of wood trim - a style from the late 1800's - just beautiful and well-maintained for those of us who like such places. Simple elegance. The entire staff was very kind and professional. The food was very good, fresh and tasty. I had a wonderful view onto the English Channel from my spacious and comfortable room. It was quite and a very charming experience. The beach and promenade into the center of Eastbourne is just down a few stairs. I can highly recommend this hotel.

We were very much looking forward to yet another trip to Eastbourne, a town steeped in family history and memories. We are constantly looking for our perfect Hotel here but on this occasion Covid 19 made this difficult to find. The Hydro was well equipped for the Covid eventuality, signs everywhere, one household only in the lift and the gift cupboards were locked to customers so it was not possible to purchase from these (?). Hand gel readily available, but during our five day stay we only had our temperature taken once. On arrival we were asked to make payment and when we reached our room it was clear to see why. Room 121, a double bed squashed into a single room, probably once servants quarters. If we hadn’t already paid we would have run for the hills. Sadly after a six hour journey I felt I had to express our displeasure and we were moved to a side sea view room, a difficult task with a wedding party in situ and a coach trip coming in. The staff were kind and considerate. The lunch option was adequate but a little expensive. We ate in one evening - passable. We could say we came to see how the other half live, but now we are that other half and we were not impressed.

Stayed at the hydro last week of June in a side sea view room. The room was spotlessly clean with all necessary items included, although extra luxuries had been removed due to covid restrictions. The room was only serviced once during our one week stay, but extra towels, toiletries were left outside our door so this wasn’t a problem. We stayed on a dinner, bed & breakfast tariff and found the food excellent. My only criticism would be it’s the same menu every day, which is very repetitive if staying for a week. Having said that, there are lots options and nothing is too much trouble for the staff who are all immaculately turned out both at breakfast and dinner. The weather was not good unfortunately so we didn’t get the chance to use the swimming pool, but it looked good and had lots sun beds and chairs surrounding it. There is a light and airy conservatory leading out to the gardens, but on every occasion we went in, every table had a reserved sign on, although we never saw anyone sitting at them. On the whole I would recommend the hydro for a lovely relaxing break with good old fashioned service from all involved

We booked bed and breakfast at this hotel because we were attending a Golden wedding celebration here. Unfortunately due to Covid the celebration was cancelled.
We decided to keep the reservation and my wife phoned to confirm this and to book an evening meal in the Crystal restaurant, she was told that there was no need to book an evening meal as there would be plenty of room in the restaurant. When we arrived we were told by the receptionist that the restaurant was fully booked and that we should have booked when my wife confirmed our reservation my wife said that she had tried to book an evening meal but was told there was no need to the receptionist just replied "Well you should have booked but you can eat in the Conservatory." We went to the Conservatory bar for a pre meal drink and my wife asked a waiter about meals in the Conservatory and explaining the situation with the Crystal restaurant she was told again "You should have booked the Crystals restaurant when you phoned" he then thrust her a menu for the Conservatory. The choice of food was awful definitely more Cafe than restaurant. In light of this and the appalling attitude of the staff which bordered on downright rude and our microscopic room we decided to just book out and leave.

Please accept my sincere apologies for the lack of clarity when you called. Our conservatory menu features dishes such as Confit of Duck, Rump of lamb, Blade of beef and many more which have proven to be very popular with our guests. I was disappointed to note you decided to check out and leave the hotel and naturally when you are next in the Eastbourne area please do not hesitate in contacting my office so I may personally arrange your next stay. Such a shame to leave this review. In this day where all hotels are competing for custom the slightest thing can make a difference. As a family we stayed fir a weekend fir my dads 80th birthday. Could not fault the service in the restaurant, however we used the vouchers for tea and a cup of tea on the 2nd day but only 4 of us. One only had a drink. When we checked out we had been charged. Simple error and easy to correct so I thought. Oh no had to endure the third degree then a manager had to be called and told we would have to wait for vouchers to be found and questions over what drink did we have. When I said I was not prepared to wait 15 to 20 mins back on the phone to manager to hear the receptionist explain I was getting mad!!!!!! Then manager arrives corrects the error but immediate sorry or introduction then still charged fir paper. Please take lessons on how to deal with a complaint as you have now lost 6 customers. Shame on you.

There is level access at the side of the hotel, and wide doors to the dining room and conservatory. However there are steps into the garden (though the hotel may have a ramp available). I cannot comment on the room facilities, as we did not need to stay in an easy access room. There is a lift to the upper floors.
