Tired, dated rooms in need of refurbishment. The garden room was very old fashioned with mould on the shower curtain and bathroom tiles needed a good clean. The restaurant was badly organised with a long delay for food. We waited over an hour for our starter at our evening meal, but the quality of the food was very good. Breakfast was even worse, the chaperoned buffet set up didn’t work at all and table service would have been far easier for all involved. Several customers complained about the delay, as did we and we were told they were very busy. If they can’t cope with the amount of tables, don’t take the bookings. Spa area not worth bothering with as everything is closed except pool. This is obviously due to covid restrictions, but we were not advised of this when we checked in. Overall, the good points were the quality of food, very reasonable cost and the comfy beds. Unfortunately the poor service, lack of facilities and general dated rooms outweighed the good so I would not return to this hotel.

Our garden room was in desperate need of updating. The smell of cigarettes hit you as soon as you opened the door, there was mould in the bathroom and the hallway tiles were chipped. However, on the positive side, the bed was comfortable and being outside in the block in the car park means that it is quiet at night. The public areas are clean but the windows are filthy. They are very organised with Covid precautions but, unfortunately, that means that breakfast is cold. The staff are all lovely and they work very hard. When I raised my concerns with reception there was no apology or reassurance that these issues would be addressed. Unfortunately I would not recommend staying here which is a shame because it could be lovely.

Dear Collette B, Thank you for taking out time to share your feedback regarding your recent stay at Muthu Belstead Brook Hotel. We are disappointed to hear that we did not manage to reach your expectations during your stay. Please accept our sincere apologies for issues experienced. Our garden rooms are open from both sides probably that’s why the cigarette smells linger around. Our plans are to re furbish the Garden Rooms (done in 2018) as we have completed all rooms in the building. Your feedback helps us to take actions in terms of guidelines for our future. We would like to thank you for your mixed bag of compliments and constructive criticism which appreciate and for appraising our staff members you met. Your comments about the windows and breakfast have been noted and shared with the respective managers. Upholding our commitment to provide a memorable experience with exceptional service, we hope to have an opportunity to better your experience with us whenever your travels bring you back to Ipswich. Kind Regards, Belstead Brook Team

My husband booked a romantic night away, we got married last year and hadn’t been able to get away anywhere. On arrival we tried the book in for a pedicure, but we were told it was full. We then tried to book for dinner and were offered a table at either 5pm or 9pm. There was no other availability. So we went for 9pm. We decided to sit in the gardens with a drink. The garden consists of picnic benches - a set of what should be more comfy rattan seating - but there were no cushions - so there was nowhere to actually sit back and relax properly. The room was basic, a window in the roof - that could have done with a clean, but the rest of the room was clean. Attempted to iron a shirt for the evening meal, but the iron had fallen apart and the electrics were falling out. On arrival for the meal we were asked what we would like to drink, I asked for Gin and lemonade and my husband cider - but the waiter did not know what cider was. He then returned saying there was no gin and lemonade so instead I had Diet Coke. Starters were good. We then had steak - which was extremely fatty. The waiter asked, how is your steak - I said it was very fatty. He replied - fatty is good. While we were eating the waiters began clearing off the table cloths of the other tables and made us feel that we shouldn’t be there. We had no offer of refills of drinks and had to ask for desserts. The music that was playing was fast beat and sounded either Greek or Indian - not the romantic background music you would expect. The following morning the grounds were littered with takeaway kebab boxes and empty glasses/ bottles. We attempted to go to breakfast. We were sat at the table waiting for half an hour before we could go up to the breakfast area. A lady who appeared to be head waitress was rudely ordering staff about and commenting far too loudly about people who had complained. When we went to the food serving area the food had been sitting under heaters for far to long and was all dried up. The scrambled egg looked awful and the yokes on the fried bread dried up. The waiter was clearly rushing and over worked and stresses out, so came across as rude. Open loaves of bread lay messily on the side, the presentation was poor. The food was so dried up that we left without eating. It was a disappointing experience. We will not be returning.
