After Three hour drive, I arrived at the hotel ready to check in, i filled in the paperwork; to be told I cannot stay, due to the ‘new legislations that had been put in recently’? that it’s business travel only. I had booked via Booking.com and checked the ‘ covid restrictions’ but it did not state anything about business purpose only! I had been in contact with the hotel via booking.com app about my stay etc and yet they never asked to confirm why I was travelling. If I had known this I wouldn’t of wasted 3 hours of my day driving. As you can imagine I was very upset and extremely disappointed that they had not been in contact. Could’ve saved a lot of my time and effort!

We hope to welcome you back to the hotel for your leisure stay, following the next ease on UK Lockdown rules. Take care, and stay safe. Kind regards,

Fantastic stay. Clean, comfortable rooms. Lovely staff who couldn’t be more helpful — I mainly chatted with Laura and Steve who were so friendly and really made my stay a special one. Hotel has adapted well to Covid to with room service. Nice food. Lovely housekeeping staff. Thank you!

We stayed here (for our son's wedding) during the easing of lockdown as part of the coronavirus. Hotels had only been re-opened for 3 weeks and we expected disruption, inconvenience and change. We didn't expect beds that smelt musty. We stripped the bedding in both rooms the following morning and the hotel willingly re-made the beds for us. No more problem. We hadn't realised that the inclusive breakfast wasn't being served, but was being delivered to the rooms, that's understandable. It was sad though that this experience, rather than being as good as they could have made it, was as minimal as they could get away with (turns out this was particularly because our rate included breakfast, others seemed to have better choices.) Instant coffee, past best before milk capsules, soggy paninis and sandwiches, tiny croissant or muffin (not both!!!) If we had realised we would have gone to the local Harvester instead. Just to make life even more annoying, our key cards stopped working about 10 times over our 3 day stay. Staff were polite and helpful, but this experience, has put us off Holiday Inn and we won't be using this one when we return for our son's wedding next year. In fact, it has made us want to avoid hotels altogether for now - not what the chain or the industry needs in these difficult days.

Room Tip: Most rooms are quite noisy because of where the hotel is situated, especially on week day mornings.

Hello 754kaya, Thank you for your stay and for taking the time to leave us feedback. I want all your stays with us to be a delight. I know this requires our ability to assure a satisfactory stay for you. I am sorry to learn that the room upkeep, musty-smelling bed, and the breakfast options made your stay less than ideal and how the key card caused inconvenience. I have shared your comments with the Hotel Management, and I am confident that the necessary steps will be made, to make improvements. We hope you will join us again in the future and impart a better stay. Safe travels, Deborah R. Case Manager IHGService

Long time getting around to this review, busy Covid times eh! I stayed at this place during early lock-down as classed as a key worker, very well managed place regarding social distancing, when checking in, felt safe. Strange times as room service only for food due to restaurant being closed at the time. The really annoying bit was the inconsiderate gardener, hot weather at the time so my window was open, a petrol mower was used right outside my room before 6-30 in the morning! would not stay there again.

We chose this Holiday Inn when we were visiting the Essex/Suffolk coast as it gave easy access to both. The only downside was that it is located between 2 busy roads so was a bit noisy, nothing that ear plugs didn’t sort out tho. The hotel was very clean and tidy and the staff courteous and friendly. We chose a room with a king size bed, and yes it was 2 singles pushed together (pretty normal these days) but it was comfy and didn’t affect our sleep. We didn’t eat in the hotel, choosing instead to eat at the Brewers Fayre - a 5 min walk away, and had breakfast at the Toby Carvery, 10 mins away. Well placed for road connections, we would def use again if in the area
