My partner and Had dinner and stayed in one of accommodation rooms upstairs. The room was reasonable quality and furnishings comfortable. Good sized bathroom and very clean. Breakfast was included and was first class with fresh juices and salmon. The dinner was the tasting or degustation menu and we added the flight of wines. We enjoyed the food. In effect... More

We went for an evening meal, the tasting menu, each course was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. Service was excellent and the wine list was very good. They have two rooms, ours was very nice, not huge but certainly not cramped, plenty of clean towels and toiletries. I asked for a teapot as I hate tea made in the cup,... More

First visit for Saturday lunch. We had been recommended by several people and it lived up to its reputation. We had the 10 course lunch and every course was so beautifully presented and tasted wonderful with so many tastes, textures and temperatures. Don't go if you are a fussy eater and don't want to try things. Although I'm sure they... More

We stayed one night because we were dining at the Michelin star restaurant and lived over 70 miles away. I was immediately dispirited by the whole palaver of even getting to the room, which is accessed via the serving area to the kitchens, and up some steep shabby stairwell. The room was disappointingly furnished in cheap Ikea furniture, which is... More

We stayed here on a Saturday evening and combined it with eating in the restaurant that same evening. Upon arrival, the service was friendly and very professional. The room was excellent, decent size, and with a very good bathroom. As for dinner, this was superb. Again the service was friendly, attentive, informative and highly professional. We ordered the eight course... More

My sons bought me a voucher for the only Michelin star restaurant in the North East. We decided to stay in the hotel as well. When we arrived in the car park someone came out to meet us and took us to our room. The room was lovely and had the poshest tea bags I've ever seen! The evening meal... More

From the moment we arrived and were warmly welcomed into the small bar area, we knew we were in a very special place. Checked out the cocktail list and chose a Winston Churchill (chocolate and cigar flavour.. you have to try it!) Absolutely wonderful meal (5 taster menu) last night (5th June) .. each course intriguing in its description and... More

Have eaten here several times over the years and it gets better and better. Now having a Michelin Star. Dinner was excellent with fresh ingredients imaginatively used by self taught Chef James Close. Two tasting menus to choose from; one 5 course and the other 8 courses, both reasonably priced. Very friendly and helpful staff and happy to adjust menu... More

This one star on the out skirts of Darlington is rapidly becoming a clear icon, stunning execution of great ingredients, talent and passion abound, a rare thing in this neck of the woods, I would date say you would not find better anyware regionally
