After a lovely family walk with the dogs on the quantock hills, we decided to visit the blue ball upon recommendations from a friend. This was our first time and when we turned up it was such a lovely setting and had such a nice feel inside. We were greeted by the staff and showed to our table. I noticed...

Popped in today for a casual lunch, service, food and atmosphere was excellent. Dogs allowed, good selection of ales and largers also. We went for steak and peppercorn sauce which was genuinely outstanding. a great pub, will be back soon!

My sister took us to dinner one night and what a nice place it was. The place looks original with wooden beans decorations and tables but the food was even better. Original dishes on the menu and specials board had something for everyone. We had pheasant which was in season and shot locally, and a sharing fillet steak that melted...

The room was spotlessly clean and comfortable with TV, wifi and tea & coffee facilities, overlooking the Inn's garden area. The owner, Ian was really friendly and welcoming, with great knowledge of the local area. Breakfast was delicious and catered to my gluten free diet. I was travelling on business so didn't get chance to explore but am looking forward...

Had a room reserved for one night as an anniversary treat, unfortunately when we arrived, the owner was not expecting us and we had no room booked. He went out of his way to find us alternative accommodation and even organised a lift so we could both have a drink with our meal as we had planned. Food was very...

Sadly our room which was booked in April this year, was not recorded and booked. The new owner said he would look into the possibility of finding us a room --but at this late stage I think it would be impossible for the August Bank holiday weekend. He said he would come back to me whatever he could find !....

This pub is soooo cool. The buildings and surrounding are absolutely beautiful and the beer garden is spot on if the weather is right! We didn't want to eat too much because we had food in the fridge but we ordered some starters to keep us going: I had the wild boar tagine, it was fit! My other half had...

great pub for lunch followed by a walk on the quantocks. The food is good quality and very good value. Enjoy fabulous views whilst you eat, follow it all with a walk in the most beautiful of surroundings.

We were a party of 4 .booked a Saturday night for a Valentine menu. Nice pub. Lovely quirky old style with nice atmosphere and friendly staff. The problems however were obvious from the start and just got worse as the night went on. It was obvious they were behind on time. Meal booked for 7.30 but first course arrived at...

We stopped here for lunch after walking on the nearby hills. Service at the bar was ok but I've felt more welcome else where. I had the venison and my wife had the roast pork with apple sauce. The waiter didn't have a clue whether the venison was wild or farmed, not that I actually care because it was very...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
There are few pubs these days that don't serve food, but how many go the extra yard? The Blue Ball has earned an enviable reputation as one of Somerset's finest pub restaurants through a combination of traditional dishes with a modern twist, an emphasis on freshness and seasonality, and an insistance on using locally sourced ingredients from farmers, growers and merchants who care as much about the quality and welfare of their produce as we do. ... more   less

“As the Blue Ball is located in the heart of rural Somerset any of the rooms would be perfect - no sky brightness at night and really quiet - just the sound of running water from the stream opposite.”
