For years this traditional Stamford pub has had a great reputation for its cask ale. I finally made it in there for a pint - they do keep a good selection of styles to its credit. The Castle Rock Golden Ale was decent enough and well priced. What hacked me off about this place was the uncontrolled kids in attendance...

Used to be great social and music venue, now more or less empty all the time, hoping that the new management will soon fulfil their projected improvements, and give the older regulars back the venue it used to be.

If you are just looking for a good crowd and a cheap beer. Great pub for you. I really enjoyed the company of some locals and some good cheaper beer. TV and WiFi are additional free perks. I think they are in a transitional state at the moment but it wasn't evident.

Big area with lots of seating. Lots of character and features. Food was Ok, nothing spectacular. Kids pasta had ketch up for pasta sauce , never a good sign. Rest of the order - pizza, lasagne etc turned out ok

First impressions last and I stayed here for all of 20mins!!! On route to room the carpet is filthy and only on some of the stairs. On entering our room there was dirty stains on the carpet and the bed I must state the linen was spotless and clean but the bed itself was weak and the mattress was thin....

Not sure what has gone wrong with this place, as it used to be my favourite pub in Stamford. No friendly welcome or smile from the bar staff. They just seem very uninterested. The beer used to be the best in respect of quality and choice, now you have to try and guess which is the freshest one on!!! And...

We have stayed here several times in the past, and accepted the poor state of the rooms as the rates were very cheap, but as prices had significantly increased we thought there had been an upgrade-we were wrong!! Rooms had thin mattresses that you could feel the springs through; draughty windows; dirty rusting heater; TV only had one channel; one...

you get what you pay for. I had to wake up very early to attend the vitruvian race, so i wasnt really bothering. Maybe too expensive for what you get, but this was cheapest option. Seemed clean enough to me, and the stairs are steep but not as terrible as other say

Staff not particularly helpful on arrival. Parking is on- street parking and depends when you get there as to whether you'll find somewhere near and convenient. Dangerously steep, narrow winding stairs up to room. I was told it was in the middle of being refurbished - but it seems everyone is told that whenever they stay! Room not clean -...

Following a wedding in Stamford the night before , we wanted a lay in in the morning. However we were woken up by the bar staff who had the music pumping whilst cleaning. This was followed up by someone working on the window frames, which consisted of someone using a hammer and chisel repeatedly. This was all at around 9am,...
