The Royal Hotel garners appreciation for its spacious rooms and classic charm, complete with high ceilings and ornate chandeliers, offering travelers good value for their stay. While the hotel's amenities, including expansive lounges and pristine gardens, are a hit among guests, some have expressed concerns over dated decor and maintenance issues. The staff at The Royal Hotel are frequently commended for their friendliness and attentiveness, although there have been occasional comments about service lapses. Cleanliness receives mixed reviews, with some areas noted as well-maintained and others criticized for needing more attention.

We ended up at the royal hotel due to a booking error with booking.com we was supposed to stay at the Scarborough hotel we were told no spare rooms in the Scarborough hotel but the manager mark very kindly sorted out a room at the royal hotel at no extra cost to us but was actually £27 more expensive which he paid for .
The room was supposed to be a superior double so we checked in no problem but the room was smaller than expected with a wash basin in the bedroom as the shower room was the smallest I've ever seen just managing to fit a toilet & shower tray with curtain around in.
The bed was comfortable enough & the bonus of the room was it had a large terrace to go out onto so as my husband is a smoker it was ideal for him & if the weather had been good would have been amazing views room very dated but was fine for an overnight stay.
Breakfast was good & hotel was nice in main areas.

Rooms were clean and well kept, however in desperate need of a refresh. Dated furniture and fittings combined with a centuries year old carpet made for an.. interesting experience. However the hotel is kept clean and is perfectly suitable for short stays (1-2 nights).

During breakfast, it appeared they were quite short staffed to deal with so many people. Staff were doing there best but it would have been a smoother experience had there been some more of them. Food was as expected. Partial English breakfast including sausage, bacon, beans, egg, tomato and the usual continental stuff. Eating area was clean but the main issue was the lack of glassware and dishes for all customers. Glasses were brought out eventually when enough people had finished, and they rushed to clean them in time.

Overall I didn't mind my stay here, although I wouldn't stay here for more than one or two nights.

Well, upon arrival the room we’d booked was not available. However, after a 10 minute wait this was swiftly resolved by giving us a different room. Upon arrival at the room we found the key to be faulty then to our surprise the door opened from the inside, this room was already occupied. We then walked all the way back to reception to inform them and the receptionist looked totally confused. Another 15 minute wait later and we were given another key, we were then informed that the manager had upgraded us to a premier room, as grateful for this mistake as we were upon arrival into this room that was poorly decorated was what we believed to be a cupboard to perhaps store our cases in which turned out to be a cupboard with a shower tray that unless you are 5ft or shorter is useless. Moving onto the bedroom, it was somewhat extremely dated, after spending a good 3-4 minutes trying to find the light switch it was then found behind the wardrobe. There was plaster peeling off the walls and the room smelt damp. Moving onto the bathroom there was plaster coming off the walls there too, the extractor fan didn’t work and the shower was the equivalent to standing next to an erupting volcano, the cold tap was on full with the hot tap ever so slightly on and the water was still like lava , there was no happy medium, turn it down ever so slightly and it went stone cold. The decor of the hotel is old and dated, the building wouldn’t harm from a freshen up. Our Saturday morning breakfast would’ve been better if we were sat in weatherspoons, we were told the chef himself had said no more bacon leaving us with only sausage, beans, tomatoes and fried eggs to choose from. We were asked if we wanted tea or coffee, so we ordered coffee what we didn’t order was a pot of iced coffee. Our second morning breakfast was not too bad, the coffee was warm and the bacon was actually present and tasted rather nice. Overall I don’t think we will be visiting this establishment until there had been some decorating, although it was clean the carpets were threadbare and the sofa in our lounge had a throw over it to cover the big slashes and other imperfections in the leather.

On a recent visit to Skegness we stayed at the Royal Hotel. What a Nightmare. The receptionist was very arrogant bordering on rude. On being issued the room key we endeavoured to make our way there. The route was up and down various steps and along a threadbare carpet and extremely uneven floored corridor on this aspect alone Health and Safety need to have a look at this. On route there were various hand sanitizer units all empty. The décor of the room was very poor and the wardrobe looked to have been a cast off from Steptoe and sons. The first night was intolerable due to hard bed. Breakfast what a shambles. Informed that you could not queue and select breakfast items yourself and instead had to have the disgusting set menu. On being seated you were asked what drinks you would like we opted for coffee and were astounded to see that on the table was what could only be described as cups from a Childs tea set. We opted for the cooked breakfast 1 sausage 2 bacon 1 egg 1 hash brown and beans I asked for toast and was told to join the large queue and make your own ( so you cant queue to get your own breakfast but have to queue to get toast). 2 toasters but only one was working, arrived back at table as breakfast arrived. The food was barely Luke warm, the sausage thin small and tasteless, the bacon almost raw overall uneatable. On reflection I would say to anyone thinking of staying at the Royal “DON’T”.

Took the Monday to Friday break offer at the Hotel. We had stayed here before and really enjoyed our stay. We needed a break and just wanted somewhere where we new the quality and could go for walks along the prom. We actually went on the Sunday. The food is great. Food ordered in advance the day before on a varied 3 course menu offering 3 choices at each course and one sitting for those on the 'break' which wasn't a problem. Covid precautions taken very seriously. Masks worn by all staff and this was before the general ruing came in in September. Rooms deep cleaned and only paper cups etc and sachets of refreshments in our room. I did hear people complaining about that but to us it was a good precaution. Any extras were gladly delivered to the room and left out side the door, this included clean towels etc etc. We would gladly visit here again as the deals are great and staff very understanding and helpful.

I’ve stayed at this hotel many times and never once been disappointed.
It pains me to read some of the reviews I just can’t understand how anyone can say anything wrong about any member of staff, the food or the hygiene levels beats me because I have always found the staff very friendly, polite and helpful.
The food is always cooked to perfection, bedding is always fresh, towels are always fresh thick and fluffy .
Tea, coffee, sugar and milk is plentiful in the rooms . All in all I would recommend this hotel to anyone, I will be going at least twice more this year.

Upon arrival (21/09/2020) Information regarding their new rules and procedures in relation to Covid-19 were clear and concise, the information was conveyed verbally and through a multitude of well placed signs.

Our room was clean and we were told it wouldn't be entered during our stay, but if we wanted anything all we had to do was use their slip of paper and bag system to request what we wanted. We did use this, and our needs were met quickly.

It was fabulous to be seated and waited on during dinner times. Everyone who wasn't seated wore a mask and complied with the rules, hand sanitizer was abundant, everyone stayed safe and their was no drama. Couldn't have wished for better!

This hotel break was bought for us at Christmas, it was a tribute weekend break on the 21st-23rd Feb.

On arrival we noticed two plant pots either side of the entrance door filled with cigarette butts, and also around the entrance door, not impressed.

The receptionist on duty needs an intensive course in customer service and hospitality, it was not a good experience.

Our room 304, was small, the bedroom furniture needed replacing, the beds where like sleeping on a plank, very uncomfortable, although the bathroom was ok, and had been refurbished.

We found the bar staff and the waitress and waiters very friendly, but was disappointed on arrival at 2.30, after a long journey, to be told we couldn’t have a sandwich and a pot of tea, we had to go out and find a pub lunch in the wind and rain, I thought, if a pub can provide lunch why can’t a large hotel like the Royal!!.

We decided to check out a day early, I went to the reception and was completely ignored, so we just walked out.

This hotel needs to improve in lots of areas, starting with the reception staff.

Rude receptionist red hair not very approachable at all, the decor outdated and all carpets in corridors dirty and thread bare, dirty and dusty in most places. Room, ok size except bathroom cant shut the door while on the loo as it's so small, small shower, mould and mildew on ceiling and shower mat, did not notice this until following day, the bed like concrete so hard to lie on and was two single beds pushed together, dirty stains on the carpet god knows what.only good thing was the tv. The wifi not working in the room all weekend report it twice be told will be sorted and they never did bother, requested extra pillows took over 5 hours to get kept getting told no one to do so, no phone in the room to ring reception either and phone signal shocking basically cant get if with ee.breakfast only good thing was really nice, dirty table cloths mind you, if you have a dog with you you have to eat in the club room which was miles away from where you got your food from, crazy by time get back with it is going cold, you felt a bit isolated and you have to pay to take your dog so we where paying more for our stay. There was an event on all weekend and the bar was closed in club house and games room closed all together so was nowhere for us to go with our dog for a drink, very noisy hotel.when people returning back to there rooms after attending the function, doors slamming shouting etc at 2am. Very disappointed weekend wont be staying ever again, beware guys rooms and hotel nothing like the pictures online at all.

Just returned from a weekend break, and have to say what a lovely old building this hotel is. We were seen to promptly on arrival and found room no problems, our room was very adequate for the two of us, lovely clean bed and shower, also plenty of tea, coffee, milk only slightly issue is we personally would have liked a slightly larger room. Breakfast was served promptly by lovely wait staff and was very presentable and hot, with cereal and fruit juices and toast also available. Our only other quibble would be a couple of carpets need replacing but minor detail as we enjoyed everything else, thank you 😊
