Stayed overnight recently with hubby and friends to attend a wedding at the beautiful old Rose & Crown - Colchester. Check-in/out was efficient. Our 4 poster room was very spacious, tastefully decorated, being lovely and warm upon arrival. Bathroom was again very spacious but with no heating, and we couldn't get the standalone shower to work so used the one...

Four of us enjoyed an excellent Boxing Day lunch at the Roe and Crown. Lovely ambience and a beautiful historic setting. Booking and pre-ordering of meals was easy and efficient. Service was very good. The food was also very good although I would have preferred the roast potatoes to be crispier. What made the meal so good was the fact...

We stayed on a busy Friday party night. However this was mentioned when the booking was made so previously informed. The room was beautifully decorated and of very good quality and the four poster bed was very comfy. The reception staff were friendly and helpful, going that extra mile. Breakfast was great value with loads of choice. A good hotel...

Stayed here on business. It was a pleasant surprise from the usual soulless hotels I stay in; it had charm, and was so old and quirky in parts. The room was lovely and cosy, breakfast was filling and the staff were really friendly (Hi Megan!) Will def stay again next time I'm in Colchester.

Me and my husband spent a couple of days in this hotel. It's good to know it's the oldest hotel in Colchester and....you may see that :) A great Tudor style of interior, romantic pub, a great room service - you will need nothing with them :)

Stayed here overnight for a work meeting in Colchester and have to say what a lovely hotel - which you would expect under the Best Western franchise. The hotel is a short walk out of the main town centre and located in the old part of town. This hotel is so old with thick walls and uneven floors and exposed...

We stayed at the rose and crown for two nights after we checked out of another hotel late at night as it was really awful. We were welcomed at around midnight by a delightful and friendly receptionist and checked into a fabulous room, clean and modern, really good quality. The bar is warm and has a great atmosphere. Breakfast was...

For a very old place, this is a well kept hotel, with friendly staff, a good and well priced food menu, and nice rooms. The bed in our Executive room was actually too big, far bigger than a king size, making the room feel smaller than it is. Problems with remote control and TV, which seem to have been in...

Stayed at the hotel for work, staff were so friendly and helpful. The room was clean, but a good walk from reception, up and then back down several stair cases. It didn't bother me but to be aware if you have some issues walking. I know my parents would have found it difficult and they are generally fit and healthy...

Thank you for posting your review and I apologise about the maintenance issues, all simple that we could have fixed easily. I agree about the heating but we had some overseas guests staying for a while and we were asked to increase the heating which we did, I am sorry it was too hot for you. About half of ours...

This is an ancient hotel - mostly in the right ways: a tudor building, full of charm. However, many of the rooms are very 'tired' - you DEFINITELY need to pay the extra to get the 'superior' room at this place. This will land you in a decent room, what you might expect at a very good hotel as a...

Hi Hannah, Thank you for your review and I am very pleased you enjoyed the great breakfast on offer. We have a continued programme of refurbishment/decoration and Superior rooms were the latest phase, with a soft refurb in most of our historical rooms. The next phase starts soon. Looking forward to welcoming you back very soon. Many thanks
