Stayed here on Good Friday, were passing through and arrived quite late so can't comment on the restaurant. Overall really nice place, but not quite as quirky as we'd thought. Rooms are of a good modern standard, but once you're in them you could be anywhere - although it's obvious you are in an old church when you enter the...

I would rate this as a restaurant with rooms, as that seems the order of priority here. The food was excellent, but the service was slow. Guests are held in a lounge and are peeled off in a timed & ordered manner to give the chef the optimum time to phase in the courses. That works if you enjoy pre...

This is a converted Church (as you'd expect from its name!) with some off-the-wall touches. There's a large "Spirit of Ecstasy" (Rolls-Royce) statue in the middle of the restaurant but the quality of the food and service were excellent and the staff were very accommodating. The only downside was that the bedrooms are a bit small but the bathrooms are...

The Auld Kirk, is a warm, and welcoming hotel and restaurant. It is a small hotel with a very big heart. The rooms are equipped with everything you need and the views from the bedroom are outstanding. The choices on the menu are varied and all produce is sourced locally. This is a hotel and restaurant we will definitely return...

We stayed there after having left the neighbouring Hilton (don't go there) . We tried the restaurant first and were so pleased that we decided to stay for the last two nights we wanted to spend in Ballater. The service is splendid, the restaurant is outstanding and the room we were in was quite small but perfect, clean and nicely...

Another lovely trip to the Auld Kirk (our 3rd). Peter & Tony combine great accomodation with a fabulous restaurant serving superb food. Everything works well, from the relaxing ambient bar area, stylish comfortable bedrooms and atmospheric dining room. Peter heads the friendly & efficient house team who look after your every need, with Tony behind the scenes creating the excellent...

Loved the room (deluxe - wanted a bath) and the wonderful food. Good service, great localtion. Queit even though on main road. Very atmospheric but clean modern and comfortable too. Came for an anniversary weekend without children and liked Ballater so much we went back a month later with children (though hostelling that time!). Loved all the local food, especially...

We decided fairly last minute to head off to the Highlands for a weekend break and chose the Auld Kirk Hotel and Restaurant in Ballater. What a lucky find! The rooms look like they have all been refurbished recently and the bathrooms are lovely - very modern. We opted to stay in for dinner and this was the best discovery....

Spent a pleasant night at Auld Kirk House in May. A little confusion on check-in had us first given a standard room and then moved to the deluxe room we had booked. The deluxe room was MUCH nicer and larger. Definitely worth the extra money. Service couldn't have been more friendly. Decent bar and wine list. The big disappointment was...
