The chocolate- box Victorian gothic appearance is not born out by the interior which is blandly modernish. The entrance is illuminated by an awful metallic blue light and the institutional fragrance smell inside is also off-putting .BUT- there was a warm welcome, our room was huge and comfortable and quiet and the bathroom was very smart. Breakfast was excellent and...

Our visit to the Woodlands Hotel was to attend a Burns Night/Birthday party. The hotel is full of character and tasteful charm, we found our delightful room hidden away along long corridors and up and down small steps. The room was beautifully decorated with light quality furnishings and the bathroom was bright and spotless with plenty of products. The bed...

We stayed overnight at the Woodlands and would not hesitate to recommend it. It has surprisingly spacious dining and lounge facilities and our superior room was excellent. Breakfast was first rate, served by Dan who was a perfect host. WiFi worked very well and car parking was very convenient.

My sister and I arrived late one evening and were lucky enough to find that Woodlands Hotel had an available room. It was a lovely room on the ground floor which was good for my sister and the owners are really nice and friendly. The breakfast was wonderful and we would like to have stayed longer but it was the...

One overnight stay and I've stayed here before for a summer break. Lovely owners, responsive service, gorgeous rooms, great breakfast, great wifi bandwidth, lots of space and comfortable sofas with a large quiet residents bar.

Great hotel, where the owners lived up to their reputation by being friendly and helpful. The hotel is ideally placed for visits to The Donkey Sanctuary and is a short stroll into the town centre where there are numerous drinking and eating establishments. Not the hotels fault but visiting in January we should expect places to be quiet. Trusted access...

I'm a picky hotel stayer and there is normally something I don't like. Woodlands was bloomin' perfect! The room was scrupulously clean, beautifully decorated with enough furniture to hang clothes, store shoes etc. The team taking care of us couldn't have been more helpful and coped with a change of room booking brilliantly. The garden was beautiful and the entire...

Good hotel with helpful and attentive owners made for an enjoyable stay. Comfortable bedroom and convenient location. Don't be put off by somewhat over-the-top pink accentuated external architectural features.

Have just had a night at the woodlands and I was made really welcome. A lovely single room and I although I was early I was able to check in. Wonderful breakfast with plenty of choice. Great to find a family run hotel. The woodlands is a very old, interesting building and very convenient for the town
