We arrived in Scarborough around 11:50, popped in to the hotel and was able to sort out my parking scratch card (valid for 2 days).
I knew from the website that the rooms wouldn't be ready until 1pm but I was able to take my room keys with me.
We didn't actually get back to the rooms until around 8:30 after having a cracking day.
The rooms themselves were fine, as you would expect the three bed family room being a third bigger than the 2 singles room.
We actually brought our own towels with us, I'm sure I spotted somewhere that they didn't provided them, so it was a bit of a surprise to find a set of towels on the beds, although I'm not complaining.
I did ask for the two rooms to have a sea view and my what a view it is, beautiful. I do like the North bay.
I tried out the shower, some of these electrical ones can be a bit poor, but this had a good flow to it.
I didn't sleep great but that was probably me as I'm a light sleeper, only heard the gulls in the morning running across the roof.
For the breakfast we had cereal, the veggie version of the full English, toast and tea and this set us up for the day.
At the end of the stay, in these COVID times, you were asked to place the used towels in a black bin and any waste from the room in a separate one which was fair enough.
All the staff encountered were pleasant and we enjoyed the stay, thanks very much.
The hotel its self is well looked after and well maintained, the bed was comfy, room well heated and ventilated and spotless.
The group of around 47 people i took to stay here have been visiting it for 16 years some even visit a few times a year that alone proves this little place is a gem.
Ive stayed in a number of hotels and B&Bs with my job and this is by far top of the list now!
Well done Gary, Andrew and the team!
Although bedrooms are a little dated, they were very clean. Bathroom on the small side & shower could do with updating. Temperature control came off in my hand! Bed very hard, a mattress topper would help.
Stayed on breakfast & evening meal basis. Food very traditional: roast dinner, cottage pie, apple crumble, bread & butter pudding etc. All OK. Breakfast cereals definitely supermarket own brands.
Looked like lounge and bar area had recently been refurbished. Entertainment provided on 2 out of the 3 nights we stayed.
Do not consider hotel suitable for anyone with mobility issues. With regards to COVID measures, plenty of hand sanitizers around the hotel, tables cleaned after use, but very few staff wearing masks.
We arrived in stormy wind and relentless rain , a great location , the hotel was warm and dry . Public areas were welcoming,The staff were friendly and the breakfast was lovely ( at an extra cost of £8 each per night)
I had chose this hotel on the lovely big bay windows with table and chairs to sit and look at the sea views, as shown on their website . I booked a deluxe room with seaview ,that showed the exact kind of room that suited us .We knew the weather wasn’t going to be great on arrival but didn’t care as we were looking forward to watching the stormy seas from our window .
We was in for a shock , our room was on the top floor , very tiny , with 2 small windows with no room for a table or watching the waves unless you stand up and lean on the window .
The bathroom was very tiny and dated , all the furniture looked like stuff you might pick up from a car boot, very worn and chatty . The feel of the room reminded me of where somebody might have lived for years and never decorated and done any upkeeping . It was a very depressing looking room .
We had a 2 night stay and stayed out all day as couldn’t think of anything worse to come back to .
It might have felt like a different experience if we had a room advertised on the website . We personally wouldn’t return.
Next the desk, well facing a blank wall, and far to small to put a lap top or papers on it. Room very small as well, not very good. Had I been told restricted sea view, could have understood it, but to quot a sea view when sea view is impossible, not good at all. Only good thing was refunded money without problem, strange though, when I asked if they would like cash or card, told would prefer cash and I had to ask for a receipt, receipt hand written with no copy!!!
Ideal location and enjoyed a walk every morning..
We liked it so much we asked if there was availability for the following week as we were at another concert, the girl on reception was unsure but a gent rang me a few days later to say we could have the same room and no need to prepay just pay on the day which was very trusting.
This will be my first choice of hotel now for future concerts in Scarborough. It's half the price of the local premier inn and much cleaner and friendlier than The Grand.
Thankyou for a lovely stay
The room was small, dated as we expected. Just enough room to navigate around the bed. There were tea, coffee making facilities, which were both vile, the teabag were not sealed so lost their flavour. Then the biggest shock, where was the toilet come bathroom.Behind a narrow dark wood door, that needed attention,as it was hanging off its hinges.Plus when opening door to room, the stay, hit the door to the shower hut. Well the shower you have to clamber over a foot high piece of boarding,Behind another dark wood door, that opened already into a small room the toilet come wash sink, nowhere for OUR toiletries,as you are only given a bar of soap, So our toiletries had to be left in our bags,on the already crammed worktop. There was no where to sit comfortably in our room, others than the bed,the only chair was a dining room chair and you nearly fell through that. The lights over the bed you hit your head on. No electric sockets either side of the bed.Double socket on wall between shower hole and cupboard housing toilet and sink. You had to place items you wish to charge,on a dirty carpet. Not ideal.Other sockets on already overloaded worktop, had mini tv and kettle.
Meals,I think because we were on a bargain break on a coach, portion control was inforce. Variety of starters, mains, desserts all well presented,by two lovely young ladies, which having looked after us through the few days we were there, were not present on our last morning.???
Location,The hotel is situated well for all amenities. The castle is within walking distance,Also the town centre. Word of warning the surrounding pavements are covered in dog faeces.
Sorry about photos, wrote review on tablet, photos on phone.
It is about 15 minutes easy walk to the stores on South Bay Beach, and 10 minutes easy walk to North Bay.
I would defo stay again
