Tucked near the sea and surrounded by gardens, New Southlands Hotel is a hit with guests for its prime location, though reaching it might involve a bit of a trek. The staff's warm and attentive service is consistently lauded, significantly contributing to the hotel's inviting atmosphere, which is further enlivened by varied live evening entertainment.
While some reviewers note the rooms can be noisy and at times show their age, the overall cleanliness and comfort are well-regarded. The amenities, including dog-friendly provisions and tasty dining options, add to the hotel's charm, offering good value despite the occasional critique regarding food quality and extra costs.

Detailed Reviews
Visited for an overnight stay. The hotel is well positioned off the main coastal road and a short walk will take you into town for more attractions etc.
Lovely and peaceful at night for a good sleep too! The Building is Old but this is really part of the charm of the place. The staff are extremely pleasant and the Food despite others whining was lovely, hot and presented by the waitress.
Buffet breakfast was also more than adequate, with a good choice of cereals, juices and hot food too.
Our Double Standard Plus room was ample for our needs. High ceilings, a good sized bathroom with small complimentary shower gel and soap, tea and coffee making facilities, a tv and a hairdryer. Comfortable beds with fresh bedding and fresh towels. Again more than happy with our room as it was literally a place to shower, change and sleep.
I read reviews of folks whining but for the price we paid we felt we got an absolute bargain. Remember you cannot expect waitrose quality for happy shopper prices. If you require it, then search elsewhere and pay a lot more!!!
This hotel is not pretentious in any way, it offers warm cozy rooms which are clean and a good evening meal and hearty breakfast in the morning.
This was out first visit to the area and are in the process of looking to book again for a 3 day break this time.
Thanks again for a lovely stay.

We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights b&b and were very happy with the staff and hotel. The entrance is light and airy and very welcoming. We pre booked a parking bay at the hotel in the hotel car park very near to the entrance at £6 per night. Our bedroom was adequate although rather bare, a few more pictures would have enhanced the overall appearance and the carpet had a dark stain on it near the entrance. The room had obviously been sanitised judging by the smell of bleach which was reassuring. The breakfasts were buffet style with lots of choice and excellent quality, we particularly liked the fact there was a toast machine which meant you could serve yourself and therefore have hot toast! We only ate one evening meal in the restaurant which was delicious and the staff were very attentive. The hotel is well situated a short walk from the cliff top and you can walk down to the beach or take a lift. Wonderful panoramic views. A walk into the main shopping area takes around 10 minutes. We will certainly stay at this hotel next time we are in Scarborough!

Stayed for 5 nights recently on bed and breakfast basis. Having stayed several times before we knew what to expect and we weren't disappointed. The staff were all very helpful and friendly, many going out of their way to make our stay very pleasant. The breakfast was excellent, freshly cooked and plenty of it! Our room was very clean and fairly modern being refurbished at some point. It was good to see plenty of hand cleansing points throughout the hotel and nearly everyone wore masks in public and adhered to social distancing. The bar area was very pleasant and the bar lady very hard working and was always on hand to take drinks orders which were reasonably priced for a hotel. Will definitely rfeturn.

We stayed over the Bank Holiday weekend, parking was on street and the hotel gives you a permit which was really handy, we chose this hotel as it is dog friendly, the room was basic but absolutely fine on the second floor dogs were not allowed in the lift, but the stairs were not bad at all.
Location of the hotel was great literally 10 minutes walk to the beach, and close by was Sainsbury and some takeaways.
Everything was pretty covid safe we had no concerns.
Have to say the staff were absolutely lovely so kind and helpful.
Given the fact that it's a dog friendly hotel would definitely stay here again and thanks again to the staff.

My wife and I have just returned from a 5 day break at this Hotel and were extremely impressed. We had room 212 which had everything we needed and was kept spotless by our cleaner Amy. The staff overall were amazing, helpful, hardworking and with a great sense of humour, especially Isabelle and Pam on reception, who also double up as bar staff until the bar staff arrive late afternoon. Nothing is too much trouble for them and they work tirelessly as we often seen Isabelle and other staff cleaning the door handles and stair rails with sanitiser, which was very reassuring in the current situation. Great service from the restaurant manager Eddie, who found us a different table when friends joined us midweek for a short stay. Overall a fantastic midweek break with great staff, enjoyable food and very good evening entertainment. We plan to return in the not too distant future.

Situated in a nice position near Esplanade overlooking the sea, and near Ramshill shops, this hotel has a well decorated interior, nicely carpeted. The hotel looks very clean, with comfortuble lounge areas
As for food, the breakfasts, ( Buffet ) were fine, but the evening meals left much to be desired. Portions very small, like you may get at a slimming club, and not always appealing, namely the meal on the Wednesday evening was revolting, enough to make me take to eating out on the Thursday evening.
I found also the heating was turned off during the day, and even in the evening coming on for a short time around ten pm, then going off for the night, this was mid January. I did on request get a small portable heater for my room.
Although the holiday was not expensive, one does not expect cold rooms, and food as described.
If these issues were addressed, a good hotel, and would be more appreciated than other larger establishments in Scarborough.

Lovely, well looked after and clean hotel.
Ruth and David were amazing at their jobs!
Family room was amazing- it was huge. However unfortunately, due to having a year off due to Covid, when returning back on the first evening we found a leaking toilet! Staff were still at the front reception (about 8-8.30pm) and were very apologetic and immediately found us a new room. New room wasn’t as big and windows dangerous for young children as they were low and no bars but not sure what could be done about this as the building may be listed...
As much tea/ coffee, towels as we wanted in the room. Cleaners were polite as were all staff.
Breakfast was excellent with lots of choice.
Evening meal was very cheap and ok.
Drinks were pricey compared to the town prices at around £4.20 a pint but going away you have to accept higher alcohol costs!
Dogs were not allowed in the main dining area so guests with dogs sat in the bar area. From what I gather only a certain amount of rooms cater for dogs.
Parking was onsite which was great but I didn’t notice on the website there is a charge of £6 per day for this- possibly more at the weekend.
There is a lovely beach very close by, just down the road if you want to avoid the busy town one.
We enjoyed our stay very much.
4 stars due to unsafe windows in family room and the extra cost for parking which I don’t think was mentioned on the website as I heard others were not aware of this either so it wasn’t just me!

As a refugee from the utter callous incompetence of Premier Inn at eleven o clock at night we rocked up at eleven thirty to a hotel we did not know in a town where I haven't stayed since 1961 when I was just eleven.
We found a pleasant building probably dating from the 1930s with its own (pay) car parking for which a free pass is given, and a warm understanding genuine and helpful welcome unlike the Pickering Premier Inn who could not care less about their clients and dishonour their fully paid up bookings without a second thought!
The room was twin bedded, generously provided with accessories for what is a mid range hotel in the Coast and Country group - formerly Shearings/ Wallace Arnold. Good brewing kit, fluffy towels, heated towel rail, good temperature control and in the morning the same warm welcome and a breakfast with real fried eggs - Go to the top of the class!!!! Everything that Whitbread isn't traditional, caring, customer friendly and above all - there when you need it!

My husband and I stayed here for one night on a Groupon deal which was brilliant value. It was my first visit to Scarborough. We had a lovely stay. The hotel looks as though it has been recently renovated with new furniture and decorated. The staff were lovely, very friendly, especially Rachael on the desk, the gentleman who served us at dinner and lady who served our breakfast (sorry, I can't remember their names). Our room was very clean, comfortable and warmed up lovely once I'dturned the radiator up. Water was very hot and shower powerful. We felt safe with Covid measures in place and lots of hand sanitiser dispensers. My only sadness was to see how small hotels like this are suffering during this pandemic. I can imagine that in better times this hotel would have been heaving but there were only 4 couples there! It was October though but being half term, I thought there would be more people. It made me sad, as you could see how people's jobs must be suffering. I really hope we can support establishments like this and that this horrible virus doesn't kill them off. That's why we have to support them when we can! I loved Scarborough. A proper old fashioned seaside resort. The victorian architecture was beautiful and we had a lovely walk, recommended by Rachael. From the hotel around the Italian gardens then along the front, around the castle to Peasholm Park. Parking was free and the hotel even let us leave our car there for the day even though we'd checked out which was a lovely touch 😊.

Booked this special deal via Travelzoo. After making our booking for a double room we received a email offering to upgrade the room for a reduced fee based our offer supplement of £40 we offered £30 was not until the day of arriving that we received an email to say this was not excepted, a bit of a let-down at best.
Booking in was very friendly and the rules were explained for the hotel and parking when available you can purchase a voucher to park in the street at the side of the hotel and in our case our blue badge was sufficient to park all day without charge.
Our room was clean of functional but very small with the space on one side of the bed very narrow making it difficult to get onto the bed. The bathe was very high which made using the shower very difficult if you had mobility issues plus not mat in the bath which made it Slippy. Evening meal was fine but nothing outstanding staffs were very good and made every effort to ensure we had a nice evening. E ordered a bottle of wine from their list but was informed not all the wine was available, a bottle was offered which was not on the list, and the Quality was poor for the high cost charged. The first evening there was a singer in the lounge which was a pleasant surprise.
The hotel has been refurbished this year and was very clean, Overall enjoyed our two nights but would not return

I don't think you can pre book the parking but at this time of year I would have thought it is not a problem. Personally I was not keen on the street parking, I thought it safer to use the car park. Sure if you rang the hotel, they would give you some advice.
We didn't travel with a coach party but other guests were and they seemed to be sitting on their own tables in tye restaurant.
Entertainment is provided Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday not sure about Turkey & Tinsel but they did pre covid.
