We had a really lovely evening here recently on a Saturday night. The service was great with all of the staff we met being very attentive and welcoming and the food was really good. I had brie to start followed by the pulled pork in a brioche bun (really tasty) served with chips and then sticky toffee pudding to finish.... More

We stayed for one night only...three girls and my beloved dog for a rendezvous and to do a bit of shopping in very nearby Newbury. What a fabulous place to stay. We were looked after very well and nothing was took much trouble. A small problem was sorted out with great efficiency with a complimentary bottle of wine which we... More

A good spot with easy access to the A34, a good gastro pub with great food. The rooms are very good standard, luxury for lodge prices, and nicely located in a separate block, certainly fit for Lord Robert Crawley ( it is next door to Highclere where they film Dowton Abbey) Good service and a great find, my first time... Close to Highclere Castle (aka Downton Abbey) about a mile away, adjacent to the A34 southbound. Stopped here for family lunch after a lovely walk. Staff are very friendly and welcoming and we did not have to go the bar for anything. Quite a lot has been spent making the decor and ambience very special. Bar or restaurant are for... More

We booked a one night stay for our visit, friendly welcome, restaurant and rooms very nicely decorated. We had a "cream tea" on arrival, ok but scones heated in the microwave we think, we decided to stay for dinner we chose the cod chips and minted peas. Food arrived chips ok piping hot, peas no mint and cold and chewy... More

Dear John M Thank you for your time to review The Carnarvon arms. We stayed here for one night when meeting friends for dinner. The evening meal was great, both in terms of value and quality. Service was exactly right too, with the waiting staff showing enough personality without being in the slightest bit intrusive. There was plenty on the menu for even a fussy eater like myself. The chicken dish I had... More

We booked this hotel for Breakfast en route from Portsmouth to North East England. Average food and accommodation. Not good value for money. However attentive staff and beds were comfortable, bathroom in my room had a mouldy ceiling and looked shabby. More attention needs to be paid to the food quality and general maintenance of the bedrooms especially given the prices charged!
